What do you think about Liriano long-term?I benched him today (thank God), but started him earlier in the week. He wasn't good then, either.
:goodposting: I'm more interested in him short term. What has he looked like this year? Drop in velocity?Just wondering if he looks like he's back to pre-injury status.

CREDE wins for the Twins in the 11th. I think Crede will come up big all year for the Twins, he says his back is in the best condition in years, no problems, he could be the steal of the off season.

Now if we can just get Joe M back we be fine.

Same here. I picked him up on a team or two and has been erally disappointing so far.I read his manager blamed his last poor outing on the weather, shadow, and ump calls...

Mauer could return next week

Joe Mauer today will play in a simulated game in Fort Myers, Fla., and continue playing in Florida with the hope of playing on May 1 at the Metrodome.

By LA VELLE E. NEAL III, Star Tribune

Last update: April 19, 2009 - 10:40 PM

You might want to circle May 1 on the calendar.

Twins catcher Joe Mauer today will play in a simulated game in Fort Myers, Fla. It will be the start of his final phase of recovery from a sore sacroiliac joint, a phase that could have him in the lineup a week from Friday, when the Twins play host to Kansas City.

After the simulated game, Mauer will play in extended spring training games, where he can bat leadoff in every inning if he wants.

He will alternate between catching four or five innings and DH-ing in those games until Friday, when he will officially begin a minor league rehabilitation assignment with Class A Fort Myers of the Florida State League.

The plan is for Mauer to play about six games for the Miracle, including back-to-back games behind the plate during the last two days.

He should have gotten about 50 at-bats in 10 games by April 30, a day off for the Twins. Barring a setback or rainout, Mauer could return May 1.

"If it looks like he's ready to head this way, then we will do it," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "If not, we can give him a few more days."

Gardenhire has said several times over the past week that Mauer's workouts in Florida have gone very well. Mauer also has given encouraging updates to teammate Justin Morneau.

Morales makes an impression

Catcher Jose Morales went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI against the Angels, but the Twins also were pleased that he ran the bases well and called a good game for winning pitcher Glen Perkins.

Morales ran the bases poorly last weekend in Chicago but smartly advanced from second to third on Sunday on a grounder to short in the fifth. That set him up to score on Carlos Gomez's infield single.

It's harder than it sounds, as the baserunner must know about where the shortstop is positioned before attempting to advance -- or he can be a dead duck at third.

And Perkins said he rarely shook off Morales during his eight-inning outing.

"We all know he can swing the bat," Gardenhire said of Morales, who is hitting .286. "It's about handling these pitchers. Baserunning, swinging the bat are bonuses."

Gomez uses his speed to get on base

Gomez entered Sunday batting .125 but legged out three infield hits for his first multihit game of the season. His infield hit to third in the fifth allowed Morales to score the lead run.

"Not killing the ball but putting it in play and using his speed,'' Gardenhire said. "That's a good thing.''

Hall claims Kubel's cycle memorabilia

Jason Kubel shook his head as he recapped his weekend.

"A few days ago," he said, "I was batting .220."

It was actually .226, but Kubel exploded with 4-for-5 nights on Friday and Saturday and, after going 0-for-4 Sunday, is batting .333 with two homers and 12 RBI. He become the ninth Twin to hit for the cycle in Friday's victory over the Angels.

Kubel said his helmet and batting gloves from Friday's game will be sent to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. He joked that he was glad they didn't ask for his bat.

Etc.

• Former Twin Torii Hunter, the Angels' center fielder, has a seven-game hitting streak.

• Juan Morillo's fastball was clocked at 94 to 96 miles per hour during his Twins debut Saturday.

Good news for Twins fan's if Mauer can return 5/1

This Morillo kid could be a real find for the Twins if he can keep control of his pitches

Kubel is sure starting to show why he was thought of so highly prior to his knee injury.

I was at the game on Friday and the bullpen was scary bad. Then Kubel finished his cycle in magical style and all was good again in the dome.

This week with a few days off will help the boys as well. For as bad as things seemed for a while, I'll take 7-7.

More bad news for the Twins bullpen with Crain going on the 15 day DL. Oh well on to Boston :lmao:

Finally Joe M. returns tonight  :excited:

Welcome all you fans from K.C. to the baggie tonight, be prepared for the but whooping you are about to receive :boxing:

Any chance you guys mind going away?
How bout you fold instead? But let's agree to make sure that game I'm going to at Comerica on the 30th means something, k?
We folded in '06. Let's try something different this time around, mmmkays?
Nah. '06 was fun. We should do it again.
Only if you promise to call afterward, this time.
nm. Collapse on it's way.

I'll be in the St. Paul area the week of the 11th of October. Any of you guys have a line on Twins/Yankees ALDS tickets? tia.

I'm a Red Sox fan living in Minneapolis.

This a great story. I have tickets for tomorrow's game. And although I think Detroit has a much better chance against the Yankees, I can't imagine anyone but Tiger fan's rooting against the Twins.

WOW

I didn't get a chance to see the Twins game today had to follow it online. I bet it was a great game to watch.

I did see the Tiger game. Does this team even want to keep playing ball they have no life at atll.

GO TWINS !!!!!

Moops - hope you enjoyed the game. I would've loved to be at that one.

Crazy next couple days for Minnesota fans with the Vikings on Monday night and Twins playoff Tuesday. Dang.

MNF tickets Monday

Twins game tickets Tuesday

Wednesday at the local pub to take on Yankees.

Three of the greatest days in Minnesota sports history running consecutively. Tigers are done like dinner!!!! We're going to win, yeah, we're going to score!

Just got back from the games this weekend. There's a lot of things to hate about the Metrodome, but the atmosphere in the there was just great. The ceremony after the game just brought back so many great memories from my childhood. Seeing all the heroes from the two World Series wins was the perfect ending to the weekend. I like their chances tomorrow against the 20 year old rookie in a hostile environment.

:violin: I agree.. Twins have been playing great & although I see them winning the game tomorrow.. I just can't give them much of a chance against the Yanks. Never have been able to beat them..You like your chances again this year for your Sox against the Angels.. They seem to own them in the playoffs..

Greinke sees a different Twins team

By La Velle Minneapolis Star & Tribune

Last Saturday, Zack Greinke held the Twins to one run over seven innings. The Twins lamented their missed scoring opportunities.

This Saturday, the Twins didn’t have many chances against Greinke. But they did plenty of damage when they did, going 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position and knocking Greinke out in the sixth. Joe Mauer opened the scoring with a RBI single off a 94-mph fastball. Delmon Young cleared the bases with a double to right-center for the big blow against Greinke.

Greinke was impressed with Twins hitters - which was quite a statement coming from the likely Cy Young winner.

“Even when they were getting out they were taking good at bats up there,” Greinke said. “The only team that I faced over the years where they…they actually elevate their game when the pressure is on the line. Most teams either stay the same or get tight and try to do more than they can do.

“Delmon Young, perfect example. I threw a fastball to him hoping he would try to get big and hit a home run with it. He just stayed through it and hit it to the opposite field and I haven’t seen him do that a whole lot.

”It shows how relaxed they stayed in pressure situations. And I don’t expect that.”

Greinke gave up four runs in the sixth, the most he’s given up in an inning this season. It broke a run 14 scoreless innings on the road for him. Greinke will finish the season with a 2.16 ERA, second only to Bret Saberhagen (2.08 in 1989) in Royals history.

Joe is going to have all the goodies on the showdown with Mauer. But Greinke did say he enjoyed facing Mauer and liked being involved in a big game for the Twins.

“Yeah. I thought it was the biggest game I pitched in all year besides maybe the first game of the year because there was so much on the line and it was real serious,” he said.

Too bad baseball dogma will win out as usual, Nathan should be coming in to pitch the 8th and set up an epic matchup vs. Cabrera.
