***Official 2009 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

This seems like a nice move - assuming he is healthyStacy Andrews to the EaglesFriday, February 27, 2009Posted By Mike Florio 9:41 AMA league source tells PFT that tackle Stacy Andrews has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles.Per the source, it's a multi-year deal averaging $7 million per season. At this point, the structure of the contract isn't known as it relates to guaranteed money. Andrews suffered a torn ACL late in the 2008 season, and it might have prompted the Eagles to defer any large payments until March 2010, after Andrews proves that he is 100 percent. The deal hinges on Andrews passing a physical. For the Eagles, it was important to address quickly the tackle position, since both starters from last season, Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, are unrestricted free agents.
I should have mentioned this as it would have given me some props, but I was hoping we would move after Stacey. He's more athletic than his brother, and not quite as refined, but Cinci franchised him last season and now he's a FA. With his brother on the team, I bet the 2 of them get their #### together. This was as much of a move to solidify the OL as it was to solidify the Eagles investment in Shawn.kudos

I am in agreement with most, that OT is the primary need this off season. I think that they should be targeting whichever of Carolina's FAs they don't sign. (Gross #1 or Peppers) Although I don't think we need Peppers, when you can add a talent like that, I don't think you can not think about it. As far as the draft, I would love to see them move up for Monroe or Oher. If they could land one of them and Gross, the oline would be back to its dominant self. If they cant get Gross, then what about moving Herremens outside, and letting MJG and Andrews play inside.

Also, one from left field. i know he is coming off of knee surgery, but what about signing Stacy Andrews. He has played RT, and maybe playing along side his brother again, will help to straighten Shawn out?
:wall: Not a bad call for it only being Jan 19.

Alot of info, but most of it I like. Believe it or not, I would like the Holt trade alot.
I'd love to get Holt AND a draft pick for Reggie Brown, that would be a shock if that actually happened. I hope they got Housh and make it a done deal soon.
That made little sense to me, so I followed the link and it said Brown and a pick for Holt. I think the Eagles site reversed it.

Have to like the Andrews signing, IMO. He's a better than average, NFL starting quality RT. And, the speculation is the contract will push the guaranteed money to the second year. Kind of hedges the bet a bit. Info posted earlier that he should be ready for participation by training camp is a positive. If he passes the physical, no reason to think he will not be able to get on the field in time for 2009.

IMO the Eagles needed a RT pretty bad. Andrews could fill that spot more than adequately for the next few years. And, has to be a plus for Shawn to have him there, as others have already stated. Potentially a very good right side of the O-line as it looks right now.

Hard not to like the Andrews deal. Played his heart out in Cincy and is considerably younger than Runyan. Let's not forget that Runyan had microfracture surgery this offseason.

Use the cap space to get Jason Brown and Stacy Andrews. Brown starts at OG, Andrews at RT. Herremans to LT which seems to be likely with the lack of resigning Tra. OL shapes up as:LT: HerremansLG: BrownOC: JacksonRG: Shawn AndrewsRT: Stacy AndrewsThe acquisition of Stacy Andrews lights a fire under Shawn Andrews, clearly a good thing. Brown starts at OG this year with a potential move to OC next year if Jackson continues to underachieve this year. Draft Britton or Robinson with one of the #1's which provides depth and talent to the mix. Rather simple(and yes expensive) solution to the OL issues.
Half way there. Great signing.

Report from Schefter that Brian Dawkins is going to make a visit to Denver. I really am starting to get the feeling he is not going to be an Eagle in '09.

Good call here.

:lmao: That better not be true
Confirmed on his blog NFL Schefter blogAlso just heard that Derrick Ward is visiting the Birds, very interesting.
Sorry if I implied otherwise. I didn't mean "it better not be true" related to Dawkins VISITING the Broncos, I meant it better not be true that we're going to lose him. :( As to D. Ward...I would like that so long as we don't overpay. Rumor is he wants $5-$6mm per and that's going to [rightfully] piss off other Eagles who will feel underpaid. But assuming the contract was palatable, Ward would fit nicely. He's an able receiver, he's proven he can share the spotlight, and he is versatile.

I didn't know Shawn's sister played football. LT - downgrade from TraLG - unsure...I'd like him at C, but has Brown had experience at guard?C - sameRG - Andrews will still be a question mark for meRT - upgrade from runyan because of his age, maybe a slight downgrade in talent - depends on how he recovers from injuryAll in all, they would drop down a bit in talent, go up a bit in depth (in the draft), and spend a lot of money doing it.

Wasn't taken it as you were implying it was fault. Just providing a link :hifive: Ward I could take or leave, if it's for the right price like you said. He is 29 years old, I have a feeling the Eagles want to go in to training camp with Westbrook, signed FA, and a drafted back or even two drafted backs if Ward is not signed.

Who would be pissed?

I have to agree with Wood on this signing. This is a team that runs the ball well enough that a strong TE in the middle could open everything up for them in the passing game. A good TE in their system could elevate this passing game from promising to very good. I hope they got a bargain basement price for Smith because I think I'd be just as happy with Justin Peele due to the lack of reliability Smith has demonstrated with the Iggles.

Confusing deal on the surface to me. I hope I'm missing something that makes it better than it appears.

Every time I think of LJ Smith I get pissy. To think we drafted him ahead of the Cowboys as the sat there and laughed as they took Jason Witten.

I would assume that its pretty much a lock that the Eagles take a TE on day one in the draft now. I sure hope its Cook from SC!

Brian Dawkins Signs in Denver

Friday, February 27, 2009

Posted By Mike Florio 4:38 PM

After 13 years with the Eagles, safety Brian Dawkins will have a new home.

David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Dawkins has agreed to terms with the Broncos.

Dawkins, 35, had said during the season that he thought he'd work out a deal to end his career in Philly. It could still happen, but only after a stint with the Broncos.

Goodbye B-Dawk, you were by far my favorite Eagle of all time. Thanks for all the insane games!

this is crazy...he was the glue on that Defense. does anyone really think the felon from Wisconsin or Demps is ready to start in this league?i know he lost a step, but he made up for it in so many other ways. Who knows, maybe this turns out to be Trotter/Hugh part 3, but it makes me physically ill right at this moment. And does everyone realize now that McNabb HAS to be the leader on this team?

I t is a sad day in Philly with B-dawk leaving. But I get the feeling that it was managements choice and not his.

On a 2nd note, I do not think they will go get a Boldin or a Housh. That being said, I think a Reggie Williams could be a good signing for them. He is a big WR and a red zone threat, but by no means a #1.

No way they get Reggie Williams, "Free agent WR Reggie Williams was arrested for a DWI and possession .97 grams of marijuana, both class B misdemeanors. The amount of weed may be small, but the stupidity is enormous. Williams got arrested two hours after free agency started, immediately killing his shaky value on the open market. Williams failed three sobriety tests. He may have to wait for his legal problems to shake out before he even gets invited to a training camp now

I posted this in the Dawk thread, but it is now an our after that originaltory posted and they are still not reporting this on NFL Network. Schefter is literally checking his blackberry on screen and he is still saying that they are simply in talks.

Not trying to get everyone hopes up, but maybe this is an incorrect-jumped-the-gun article? Why would the SF Chronicle be the one to break this story anyway? Something smells fishy...

Ikegwuonu is a CB.Maybe they're going to pull a Mike Brown out of their ... I would take it.
i know, but i thought on draft day some weresaying that he would probably be a Saftey in the NFL especially after the injury. anyway, that just means Demps has to be ready. And then who is the backup for him? just seems like the eagles could have easily signed Dawk for a 1-2 year deal and kept him happy.Like Herb says, i hope this is just Schefter getting one wrong

You're right. According to my guy, this IS NOT a done deal yet.

DH, give me some good news. Not a great start.

As of around 6:00 ET it's not official:

Dawkins Headed To Denver? Yes...And Maybe

Philadelphia Eagles safety Brian Dawkins is headed to Denver. Whether he stays remains to be seen.

The 13 year veteran is exploring his options and the Broncos are considered a front runner for his services. He's expected to arrive in Denver Friday to speak with the team. Despite a report in the San Francisco Chronicle that the Broncos have reached an agreement with Dawkins, there are no indications that any sort of deal has been done.

The NFL Network reports that Dawkins will talk to the Broncos, but still plans to speak with his current team in Philadelphia.

Yah something felt kind of fishy. If its only a 2 year deal the Broncos offered him why wouldn't Dawkins let the Eagles match the offer, and why wouldn't the Eagles front office want to match that offer?

I hope the Eagles match the offer for Dawkins, he is my favorite player ever. That being said, from a business perspective I can understand the eagles reluctance to give him a 2 year deal. He is still a productive player, but he has slowed down a step and is not as good in coverage as he was. On a one year deal they could guarantee him a starting spot (probably with Demps spelling him a bit as he was toward the end of the year). Its tough to guarantee him the spot for 2 years though in case the wheels simply come off at some point. He doesn't play special teams or anything and if he wasn't going to start in that second year the team could find itself in the postion of actually cutting the heart and soul of the club. This is different than Trotter or Douglas. Those guys were leaders, but Dawkins is in a class of his own. To have to cut him would be a travesty. I wish him the best and will be in Canton the day he is inducted. That being said, I still hope the eagles sign him.

Next to Reggie White he is the greatest defensive player of all time to wear Eagles green- The Birds are 40 mil under the cap - suck it up for goodness sake. I mean your throwiing 7mil at Andrews coming off of major knee surgery

Agree, suck it up and give him a two year deal. He is the leader of the team. Kind of hard for the coaches to ask players to step up and be leaders when great leaders like b.dawk can't even get one extra year on his deal to end his career. They don't even have anyone to replace him. If he wants a 3 years+ deal then that's a different story.

Plenty of rumors out there on message boards about Lito being moved to the Jets for some sort of pick this year and a conditional pick in 2010. Seems like the Eagles should have made their deal last year to trade Lito, especially considering his playing time towards the end of the year. At this point I'm not sure what else they could get for him. I do like the conditional aspect for them, at least it provides some protection.

edit:

i guess it is also on espn.com now:

espn link for Lito trade

Why do we always stockpile these mid-late round picks that we don't have room for? McNabb must be pumped.

awesome start to FA....a nutjob coming off major knee surgery, trading away a pro bowl CB for a 5th, and losing the heart and soul of the team (maybe). i wonder who they'll draft this year? I hear there's a wicked punter available at 21 :lmao:

How is S.Andrews a nut job? And it is a nice signing If they could get more then a 4th or 5th for Sheppard they wouldAnd I love Dawkins as much as anyone, but the guy will be 37 and at the very end. No matter how much I will hate to see him leave, they gotta replace him at some point
