what pick are they getting from Seattle? No other 3rd or 4th round picks?

Not understanding today at all. Cook would have been a perfect fit for us, and the fact Philly traded out of the pick after he was taken tells us he was probably the guy they wanted. To gamble he would still be there 8 picks later for a 5th rounder makes no sense. How many of our 5th/6th/7th rounders even have a good shot at making our roster this year?

Not understanding that at all. Sure the 3rd for 2010 makes it palatable, but that's just another pick in the same round and no help this year. The 5th and 7ths are effectively worthless to us right now, we already have FIVE 5th rounders this year already.

Agreed - already thought we had too many picks this year - figured we at least start acquiring for next. Interested to see what we got from Sea...Not understanding today at all. If they see Coffman, Ingram, Casey, Nelson, Cook as comparable TE picks...and 4 of them are left...I guess it makes sense. 3rd rounder back next year means they break even at worst and they get two late picks.Not understanding that at all. Even if the Birds FO rates the available TEs similarly, it doesn't make sense for them to trade out of the 3rd round completely. They have no 4th round selection. Do they really expect all those TEs to make it through another round? They have to be planning to package a few 5ths and move into the 4th round... but it would have been much simpler if they had stayed put and taken Cook.

You all might be right, but you are working under the assumption Cook was the #2 TE on their board and was their target. What if the draft board was:
1) Pettigrew
2) Casey
3) Nelson
4) Coffman
5) Ingram
6) Cook
Not saying it was/is...I hope they address TE also. (Maybe there is a reason????)

Maybe they just don't like the TE's in this draft, or maybe they truly believe Celek can be a great player for them. Personally, I see all this pick stockpiling and I can't help but think about that Scheffler rumor from Friday.I'm a little surprised there wasn't a defensive player they like there in round 3.

So basically they turned their 3rd this year into two 5th's, a 7th, and a 2010 3rd. Makes sense if they think nexts years draft will be a lot stronger, which i keep hearing, and pick up some later round picks. Hope they have a plan for all those late round picks and aren't actually going to take all those picks. If they could trade all their 5th round picks for 2010 4th rounders that'd be fabulous.

I'd be OK with that plan at this point. Package some fifths for a couple of fourths, get a TE and a CB or LB. I'd like to see another RB as well... Booker is garbage.

One thing still gnaws at me regarding Maclin... if they really thought of him as one of their 3 targets in the first round (as per DH), how come they never worked him out? Seems a bit like typical revisionist draftspeak - "We had him at the top of our board all along."

Mind-boggling. After the incredible momentum they built with brilliant moves yesterday, the Eagles have now left me feeling completely deflated.
My sincerest hope at this point is that Tennessee will take the franchise tag off Bo Scaife, and we can get the guy we wanted from the beginning.

I would be VERY content if they took Casey or Nelson in the 5th instead on Cook in the 3rd. I would rather have either Casey or Nelson, and extra picks aren't a bad thing (esp. the extra 3rd).

I'd be more willing to get on board if these extra fifths were 2010 picks. What the hell are we going to do with 6 picks in the fifth round? It's very unlikely that so many late picks will make the team, thus the value they gain by moving down is wasted.

I hope that the Eagles are staying away from a TE b/c they're close to a deal with Denver for Scheffler, maybe a 2010 draft pick or picks. Otherwise, I don't get it. They still have some holes to fill, not many, but still could use TE, S, CB, maybe another RB. They should be trading up with all those late picks, not trading down. There is no way all of those late picks will have a shot to make this team, and that is just a waste of those picks.

That 3rd pick is important next year. Remember everybody complaining how they traded that #1 last year, look how it paid off. The 5th round is where the Eagles are very good at finding good football players. That 2nd 3rd rounder can be packaged.

There goes that "we'll do nothing with our 5th rounders" theory. Good deal. 25 yr old CB with NFL starting experience. Replaces Lito's spot - at a minimum - for only two 5ths.
WOW!!!!!Apparently 5th rounders are valuable. I think Hobbs is every bit as good as Shephard was.

The Eagles have sent two of their many fifth-round draft picks to the Pats for veteran cornerback Ellis Hobbs.
The news comes from the Pats official Twitter feed.
I never dreamed that I’d ever type that sentence in my life.
The picks sent to the Pats are No. 137 and No. 141 overall.
Per NFLPA records, Hobbs is signed through 2009, at a base salary of $2.545 million.
He started every game in 2007 and 2008.
In unrelated news, Sheldon Brown just crammed a pin into the crotch of his Joe Banner voodoo doll

Just stopped in to see the deal, I can't front on Hobbs, especially if it means we're going to trade Sheldon Brown as part of a package for Braylon.

Hobbs is a borderline starter who won't kill you as a #2 CB, but his best role would be as a nickel. Still, he's young, he's a decent player, and he's also an effective return man. I think he's definitely worth two 5ths. I'm pretty puzzled as to why the Patriots made this trade.

Considering the way they were headed with all those picks, good move by the Eagles getting Hobbs, a starting NFL CB. Just when you think they're starting to lose it, they pull off something nobody expects. Is this the end of Sheldon Brown?
