***Official 2009 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

hopefully Maclin signs soon. If he misses any camp, he'll have little chance of beating out Curtis...maybe the birds are gonna go WRBC anyways?
I am curious to see how they use their WRs. Mid way through last season they said McNabb was not getting a rhythm with the WRs since they were rotating so much and stopped it. They have such a deep group this year, it'll be hard not to get them all on the field.
I remember that being said saying that too. I'd expect the rotation to continue, though I think there is a good chance that DeSean Jackson becomes a full-time player, so maybe it will just be a revolving door on the opposite side of him. Curtis will likely see the most playing time, followed(I guess) by Avant in 3-wide sets and Maclin and Baskett share the rest. I have no idea where Reggie Brown fits in unless Maclin bombs or someone gets hurt. Maybe Brown takes Baskett's spot?

I am glad the Eagles are not relying on Baskett for anything this year. His hot new bride and soon to be mother of his child (Kendra) could be a trainwreck to his average NFL career. I like him as a player, but she could definitely be a major distraction in his life.

He definitely has been average at best. He just looks awkward out there and I dont understand the hype about him. I think there is a real chance that Reggie Brown supplants him for the season and Baskett is the odd man out.

I think the Baskett hype came from the Eagles never really having a big red zone target at WR (aside from T.O.) and people hoping he would evolve into that. But you're right, he has plenty of straight line speed but that's about it. If Reggie is playing well like the reports from minicamp say he is, he easily moves ahead of Baskett, he is much more polished and I'm not sure why he never really progressed from a good sophomore season but the skills are there. That being said, I'm still not sure where he fits in.Before I heard the good reports on Reggie, I see the WR's shaking out like this: Kevin Curtis will lead all WR's in receptions IMO, I just think he is capable of consistently making big plays in this offense, and it seems he has had a great rapport with McNabb since he came to Philly. I'm assuming DeSean will still be returning punts (I hope so anyway) so I think having Maclin allows them to give DeSean some plays off here and there to keep him fresh throughout the season. He seemed to fade a little towards the end of last season and his small size is a concern. Maclin plays in the slot, with Avant also getting snaps in the slot (especially on 3rd down) and is the #4 in 4 WR sets. Perhaps Reggie is the one who spells DeSean. As a whole I love this group, and with the line upgrades I really think this year it all comes together for this offense (as long as Mr. Westbrook is on his game). With the way McNabb throws the deep ball, this offense should be extremely fun to watch.

Over 10 days since the last post, looking to get things moving again.

Have the first pick in our season ticket draft this year and deciding which game I want.

No shortage of crappy teams this year, also no MNF and only 1 SNF at home, it’s like we’re Detroit or something.

Which games do you think will be the best and the worst to go to this year?...

The divisional games look like gimmes ( in this context), esp. against the G-men...but I like that early season matchup against the Saints too. (I hate cold weather.)

Giants or Saints....in that order for me.

posted this in the Suggs thread, but probably get better response here. Anyone think any of the WR's would be shipped to Baltimore for fair compensation. I suggested McGahee, but I'm sure they have other options that could be considered fair. Do we really need 6 WR's? Has Gibson done anything in camp to suggest he's worthy of 53 man roster?

i'm sure Harbaugh has some love for Baskett since he was the ST coordinator...?

Assuming Ray Rice is unavailable, one of their young LBs maybe.

Interesting, I was torn between the Cowboys and the Saints games with the Giants in mind too.I may go season opener vs Saints first and happily take whatever's left from Cowboys / Giants.

Isn't Baskett a good special teamer? I would think this would give him the edge over Brown for a roster spot.

Because of the rivalry Cowboys games are always fun. But I'd say the 2 most competitive games will be a shootout vs the Saints, and the Giants game who are probably our biggest competition to win the division. Plus no more TO on Dallas.

Random thought: for the first time in as far back as I can remember, the Eagles are actually not mentioned in every thread about an available WR. Pretty cool.

I'm sure Rice is unavailable if it's Brown, Baskett, Avant, and maybe even Curtis on the block. I'd rather see someone that complements McCoy, but maybe they plan on keeping both Weaver & Eckel using them both in backfield together as plan C at RB? I'd rather see some more depth there, Baltimore has it at RB and needs it at WR. We have it at WR and depth at RB would be good insurance. Is McGahee worth 3 mil/year if all we had to give up was whoever Reid and co feel is the WR6?

Since it sounds like you have the 1st and 3rd pick, I would want to end up with the N.O. game and either the Giants or Cowboys games. Getting 2 of what I think are the top 3 games would be a priority and since 2 of them are back to back I would want the season opener. What do you know about your "opponent"? Is he likely to grab the game left over from the Boys/Giants if you take one of them? Is he a night game kind of guy? Only 2 games at 4 or later this year. I would think if you took one he would have to take the other. If so, you could take your pick of Cowboys or Giants and let the N.O. game fall to you. If you think he would go for the opener, then you probably have to grab that game with your first pick and then you could take the Boys/Giants scraps.

IMHO, McGahee is nearly done. I don't want any part of him.

They like home openers and NFC East games, so doesn't help much here.We both have young kids though so night games can seem like a bit of a hassel (need late/overnight sitter).

Just picked NO, will update as it progresses but guessing they take NYG.

Surprised no one said Denver, for Dawkins' return to Philly. Plus could be very meaningful for the Eagles and their playoff status.

I was at the Birds-Dallas final game of the season last year. Easily in the top three sporting events I've ever been to. That said, I'd go with Giants. Was at that game last year and it was a battle. i'd rank them:

Giants

Saints

Dallas

Denver (just for the Buck/Dawk Cheers and i can actually wear my Dawkins Jersey)

Never watched Phi Dal in person. Would take that
I've been to a few, the first was one fateful day in October 1999.Lots of memories from that one:

Was able to get the tix because it was raining and the Eagles were supposed to get demolished anyway.

The Cowboys were undefeated (3-0) with a 10 game winning streak in the NFC East and we hadn't won a game yet (0-4).

The rain cleared up just as we pulled into the parking lot and the weather turned out great.

The cheers / boo's at Michael Irvin and Deions "Holy Ghost Dance" antics while he was down.

Thinking at the half it seemed like the Eagles would never be able to cross the 50 much less score...

The Eagles made one first down in the first half. They amassed just 96 yards through three quarters and trailed 10-0
Philadelphia's first offensive touchdown in 58 possessions and 18 quarters...
Meanwhile, the seemingly hopeless Eagles (1-4) made scoring a touchdown seem like one a monumental accomplishment.

So stunned was Johnson that he scored, he said, "I got up and started looking for a flag or something. You don't want to get all excited for nothing."

Pederson walked by while Johnson did a telephone interview outside the locker room and asked him, "Is it the president?"
The flood of blue jackets and Cowboys gear headed for the exits just before time expired. Andy Reid's first win as the Eagles coach.

the thought was, that with Suggs (rumored new deal) at the time that they were freeing up cap room which could have allowed them to absorb the cap hit, but they only got 3M extra. Willis' hit is like 10 mil hit, but it is an appealing contract to acquire as you get him at a total of like 6M for 2 years or something in that ballpark (since most of his money was upfront) and Mason's contract frees up 3M, but it wouldn't add up and wouldn't be worth it now that we know what Suggs' deal is. Guys on Sirius were talking about a 6th or 7th for Brown today when somebody brought it up, but it was Schein or someone like that not PK or T-Rock who are on vacation. Same people were talking how 365 days ago we were counting on Reggie as the WR1. He should be worth more than 6th or 7th. He's made plays when he's not injured

Just got this email from the Eagles today:Hey,

The reason for my call today was because we had some seasonal seats come available on our club level. We unfortunately don’t have literature on our club seats. Basically the club seats we have are $2850/seat or $3800/seat. They are sold on a ten year term, the first two years are flat and years 3-10 there is a 5% escalator built in. There is also a security deposit due for the first year of the contract. It is 25% of the first years’ price.

Some of the added benefits of being a club seat holder include:

-Access to the 40,000 square foot climate controlled lounge with flat screen TV’s.

-It is open 2 hours prior to the game, during, and 1 hour after the game.

-There are upscale concessions and full service bars (everything is a la carte here).

-There is pre game entertainment from the cheerleaders and some Eagles alumni.

-The club seats are extra wide and padded for your comfort.

-An invitation to two other events at Lincoln Financial Field.

-A 10% discount on merchandise from the Eagles Pro Shop.

I have also attached information on our single and two game packages. It highlights the price point, location in the stadium, and benefits of the package.

If you are interested I would definitely advise you to get back to me as soon as possible only because our inventory is very limited. So if you have any other questions please feel free to call me at 215-XXX-XXXX.

Thanks!

Sucks that I can't really afford to pay $3800 per seat or get locked into a ten year term. Their 1 and 2 game packages are $295/seat for 1 game and $590/seat for 2 games, club level seats and all-you-can-eat and drink tailgate party at the HOF Club in Citizens Bank Park 2 hours before the game. I think I'm gonna get a 1 game package.

Anyone been at the club level before?

Yep, bought tix in the preseason one year just to check it out. Its better than the Phillies "Hall of Fame Club Level" (what a joke that is), but don't think it worth the extra $ (compared to face for field seats). Now if you're comparing Club face vs scalped field, may be a bit closer.

Last check, I was like 3000 on the Eagles waiting list for season tix. I'll wait for a field seat (or the lottery).

As I'm getting older I have no idea what the appeal is going to games anymore as far as season tickets go when people are spending thousands of dollars on a PSL liscense a.k.a shakedown by the owners, forced to buy 2 preseason games, and then go to 8 games half of which run the very real risk of being in miserable weather when you can just sit in front of your HD and be 10 ft from your fridge. To each is own I guess.

Not good.

Eagles to name McDermott defensive coordinatorPosted by Mike Florio on July 24, 2009 10:33 AM ETIn a development that implies somber news regarding long-time Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson's battle with melanoma, the Eagles have announced the Sean McDermott will be named the team's new defensive coordinator. The story posted at the team's official web site is silent as to the reason for the move. Previously, McDermott was named to the post on an interim basis.A press conference is scheduled for Saturday morning. At that time, more information likely will be provided regarding Johnson's condition. The fact that McDermott will be elevated from interim to permanent, however, is not a good sign."It's part of my life," Johnson said during a May press conference regarding his intention not to retire. "It keeps me going."We wish Johnson all the best in his continuing battle, and we hope at some point he'll be able to return to the sport that keeps so many of us going, every day of the year.

Although this is very sad, it is, unfortunately, far from surprising. Even without the title, McDermott was the de-facto DC.

Agree, but tough to see it official.
this should be interesting. For the past few years, I've thought that JJ's schemes and calls were the only thing holding together a swiss cheese Defense. His timely blitzes, and unusual alignments created who knows how many BIG turnover's, sacks, and confused offensive players. With JJ focusing full time on his cancer, and hopefully kicking its butt like it was Ben Rotheslisberger in a mid Sept game at the Linc, it will be interesting to see if the talent on the D can perform. That is perform without the safety net of a nasty scheme each week.In a few years, we may look back at this moment and say that it was just the proverbial window closing another few inches. OR we may say that it opened the door for a return of Spags after a futile 2 year run with STL (my prediction). Either way, its going to be interesting

sorry to hear of this sad news for you guys. JJ is/was top shelf as far as D-coordinators are concerned. hope he can kick it and enjoy many cancer-free years ahead.

You have to go to the Giants game. And the Cowboys game if possible. NFC East football is too damn good not to watch.

I really really hope the new DC is good. I know he coached the secondary, but he could be the only weak link in this team. If he fails, he is bringing the entire team with him.

With this news it's indeed a sad day but thanks for the classy post. ;) All the best to JJ and thanks for your work.

Maclin not in camp today - if this goes on fr any length of time gotta think any chance of an impact this year starts going way down.

From the scuttlebut my buddy is hearing (note that he is in no way part of the negoiating process) Maclin's agent is really playing hardball. Apparently he thinks he should be paid as a top 10 guys, even though he, well, wasn't a top 10 guy.

There's a ton of first round picks still unsigned this year, isn't there?

The system is failing.

I wouldn't think it should take too long to get Maclin signed, the Eagles have signed all of their other draft picks, so they onbly have a certain amount of money left in their rookie pool. Throw in some escalators and option bonuses and get this done so he can get in camp. These guys are crazy - Maclin wants to be paid like a top 10 guy, Crabtree wants to be paid like a top 3 guy - you get paid for where you get drafted. These guys haggling over money when they haven't played a single down is ridiculous.

I was there for that one too. Forgot that was Reid's first win.

With the potential for an uncapped year, rookie contracts are getting complicated to say the least. Someone in the middle of the first round is usually looking to see the deals of the few guys right in front of him in order to slot, so it's a domino effect. I figure Maclin could be a hold out for quite a bit of time b/c of the status of unsigned rooks.

Yeah, as soon as Crabtree gets his contract, I think Maclin will be signed. It gives either side leverage.

RIP JJ. Does anybody know anything about McDermott? He will make or break the Eagles season this year.
