Hard to believe that they could actually get 1st round bye if they win out and Minny loses a game! I hope they can get Maclin back against Denver, they will double cover Jackson, I think Maclin could have a huge day next week if healthy.

I like our chances against anyone in the NFC playoffs except NO and ARI. Brees and Warner are the kind of QBs who kill us -- accurate throwers with quick releases and an excellent ability to read defenses. They beat the blitz much more often than it beats them. Ditto P. Manning, which is why I don't think we could hang with the Colts if we faced them in the SB. The rest of the AFC save maybe SD is inferior, though.
On a cold day in Philly, we'd tear Warner apart. He's a great warm weather/dome quarterback, but he struggles mightily when wthings aren't just so. The crowd noise, pressure, and bad weather would lead to a 31-10-type shellacking.

I have to say that I wasn't too impressed with yesterday's win. I shouldn't complain about 27-13, but they seemed to regress in some areas I thought had been improving.

-Red zone offense was a problem again. Settled for two short fgs, and if it weren't for McNabb's scramble, it would have been 3. I'm not sure the Eagles know what players to utilize when they get close. Teams lock onto the TEs, Jackson acts like a decoy because his speed is pretty much worthless, and their OLine doesn't get enough of a push to run the ball. I really would have liked to see what Ingram could do in this role.

-Short yardage was a problem again. Vick looked pretty good on third and short in recent games but not this week. I didn't like his hesitation on the 3rd and 1. Hated going for it on 4th and short. You don't screw around like that, even against a mediocre team, in your own territory. Especially when you suck at short yardage.

-McNabb doesn't pay attention to game details. This is from the game log in the 4th quarter:

1-10-PHI 38 (2:46) 43-L.Weaver left guard to PHI 38 for no gain (99-M.Lawson).

2-10-PHI 38 (2:21) 43-L.Weaver up the middle to PHI 41 for 3 yards (92-A.Franklin).

Timeout #3 by SF at 02:15.

3-7-PHI 41 (2:15) 5-D.McNabb pass short right to 87-B.Celek to SF 44 for 15 yards (98-P.Haralson).

Notice anything? After no gain on 1st down, McNabb could have run the clock down to about 2:06 then called a play that might have taken it down to the two minute warning. For some reason McNabb called hike with plenty of time on the play clock. I couldn't figure out why you would go to a quick count there. This brought up 3rd and 7 and a pretty obvious passing situation. If they hadn't completed that pass to Celek they would have given SF the ball back down with two full minutes left. Ok ok, SF wasn't going to score two tds anyway. I just think this kind of thing should be second nature for McNabb by now...

I might have to actually consider rooting against my Birds this week. In one fantasy championship game I am going against DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek, and David Akers. If the could still manage to win the game only scoring 7 pointsvia an Asante Samuels pick 6 this would be great but that isn't happening.

That might be a little complex for a guy that thinks that there are 2 overtimes and his team gets 4 timeouts. The team is playing well right now but I can't help thinking that if this team is going to advance deep into the playoffs it will be by winning shootouts like the Giants game. Good QBs(E. Manning, Romo, Favre) will put up points against them, great QBs(Rodgers, Warner, Brees) will pick them apart. It will make for some highly entertaining playoff games.

Anyone go on yahoo about midway through the 4th in the Cowboys-Redskins game? The title said "Marion Barber and the Cowboys can clinch the NFC East title with a win over the Redskins"

oops!

Good win yesterday and I don't want to take anything from it. But it does kind of expose the defense a bit. The middle of the defense seemed wide open all night. And again we see a chance for 3 eagles to tackle someone and prevent a TD, only to have them all miss. It's a shame because I think they could be much better with Bradley in the middle. I just hope its good enough to match up against the Saints/Colts in the playoffs if we get that far.

Yeah, I was confused by some of the second half play calling (Celek had 100+ yards the first half and they basically lined up 4 WR sets the entire 3rd and 4th. WTF?) Can't put down the Def too much, they were handed some pretty shtty field positions (I think there were three possessions in a row that Denver got the ball at medfield to start the drive and they only turned that into one FG.) The Samuel interception being brought back to the one yard line was a massive kick in the nuts.

All in all, it was great to see Westy out there, hopefully he'll be fresh/useable this postseason. The way these guys are playing right now, I give them as good a chance as any to go to the big dance. I am counting the hours till next Sunday 4 pm.

The playcalling and in-game adjustments once again befuddled me in the second half. I was busy getting my phone stolen on the SEPTA Broad Street line at Girard and didn't hear the post game comments though, anything interesting?

By the way, anyone know how to get a replacement iPhone for less than full price?

Jackson done with torn ACL.

Now the Eagles really need Stacy Andrews.

As CSN’s Derrick Gunn initially reported Monday morning, center Jamaal Jackson suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s win over Denver and is out until next season.

“It’s obviously a big loss, he’s a good football player,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said.

Jackson’s absence causes yet another shuffle along an offense line that has suffered several injuries this season but been healthy of late. He was the only projected starter from training camp to not miss a game because of injury.

Jackson suffered the injury in the first quarter and was replaced by Nick Cole, who started at right guard. Cole, a fourth-year pro, played guard at New Mexico State before becoming a center with the Eagles. He made the team as an undrafted rookie in 2006.

“Nick’s a good athlete,” Reid said. “It’s hard to picture, but he is. He’s got great feet and very good hand and very good quickness.”.

Cole becomes the starting center, but who will play right guard is uncertain. Max Jean-Gilles took Cole’s spot at right guard on Sunday, but Reid said Andrews is also “in the mix.”

Signed to a six-year, $39 million deal in March, Andrews was projected to be the starting right guard. However, he has played in only nine games this season and has been inactive for the last six. Whether he has yet to recover fully from the torn ACL he suffered last December or simply isn’t playing well enough to earn playing time is an answer only the coaches know.

Guess I'll chime in and say this was a big loss. Jackson was one of the most consistent on the OL this year. Cole did a subpar job filling in. I'm hoping after a week of practice at center, Cole does a better job. Otherwise, Ratliff is going to have a career day on Sunday.

this definately helps the Cowboys on the defensive front. Rat, Ware, and Spencer have been very hard to block as of late, and a big part of the Cowboys last two wins on the road.this is what its all about. Cowboys/Eagles, last game of the year to determine the NFC East. i hope we dont see a repeat of last year. and my gut tells me we're gonna see a classic. :football:

I've watched the last few Boys games and they're looking strong, esp defensively. If I stay objective, I think the Eagles will be lucky to come out with a win. Though when they play them again the week after in the playoffs, all bets are off.

last year it was. However this year I'll take the rematch next week in the playoffs if there is one. Both would be nice though.

They say loss of center is the biggest impact injury to betting a game since the line doesn't move because of it and it's such an important position. Not that I would bet the cowboys, but this is a big loss. Birds have done a very good job playing through injuries though, so good reason to believe.

story?

IF the Eagles lose, and finished tied with the Packers for the wild card spots, who gets the 5 seed and who gets the 6?

Crazy to think that it is almost equally likely for the Eagles to get a first round bye as it is for them to be the 6 seed.
It is crazy. It's only fitting as I think anyone can take the NFC. For as much talk about the Vikings and the Saints, the Packers are also pretty strong. Cards are still the champs, the Eagles are on a roll, and the Cowboys are the best running team of them all(except when vikings want to)

It doesn't get much bigger than this. A Bye and a 2nd round home game, or a road trip with 3 road wins needed to get to the big game.

Game was a lot closer than it needed to be, but it was thankfully not that cold out and our crew was hopping. We had a guy in a Bailey jersey in our section and it was non-stop hilarity at the end of the game between his going nuts during the comeback and then having to take it back as we held on and won.

What a fun Week 17 this is setting up to be. I would like to sit here and argue that we're going to go in and handle our business, but I honestly think Dallas has as much motivation to win this game as any in recent memory. Should be awesome.

Great posting, nice to see you posting more lately, haven't seen you as much on here this year. The game should be very good and played at a high level. The first game was very close and came down to a 3rd and long and Romo found Austin on his only big play of the game.I think Dallas has the advantage in a lower scoring game. If Philly scores 24 or more points, they will probably win the game. Even with the big names you hear on offense for Dallas, they've actually turned into a defensive team. For them, they need to apply consistent pressure on McNabb while not allowing the Eagles to run the ball. The Eagles need to apply pressure on Romo and hope he has one of those days where he can try to force things and the Eagles opportunistic defense is there to either score or set up their offense for a short field. Both teams are playing pretty well headed into this one and I've heard more than 1 prognosticator predict that the winner of this game is actually their favorite to go to the Super Bowl from the NFC.So before the heated game, I wish Eagles fans good luck and that nobody gets hurt in this last game which should be a physical one.

Peters has been very good the last 4 or 5 weeks. He's been beaten but it sure looks as though he's hitting his stride in perfect time. Keep in mind this blocking for the pass for 12 seconds is probably new to him.

Hey Eagles, I think you dropped this yesterday...

:turd:

Is losing Jamaal Jackson causing this much havoc to the o-line and the offense?

They have looked terrible since he got knocked out against Denver.

Defense also seemed to be allowing 12 yards per rush and once again couldn't get any pressure or stop Dallas on 3rd downs.

Not looking good, asking alot to get this turned around in less than 7 days.

I said it all week...I would have rather seen them lose Desean Jackson than Jamaal Jackson. Not only were four sacks given up, but I understand there was constant pressure and and a fumbled center exchange in the red zone.I'm certainly staying loyal and hoping they can miraculously figure something out, both on the O-line and with teh entire defense, but with the game being again in Dallas, I can't see what could possibly change enough to get Philly a win. They just didn't look like they were as good of a team yesterday.

Actually, the O-line played pretty well. McNabb had lots of time to make plays but over threw wide open receivers or threw behind them. Really can't pin this on the line. And even the botched snap is one McNabb should have had. It was low, but he clearly took his eyes off the ball.

I agree with this. They never really tried to get the running game going that much and there were several times where McNabb had time and just missed.Biggest issue will be shoring up the middle of the field on pass plays. I am not holding my breath.

TE's have been killing us all year and yesterday was nothing new. Dallas next week and if we win, the Saints after that. It's not looking good for a good playoff run. Hopefully in the off season they can upgrade the LB position and get McNabb to be a bit more accurate next year.

Had to check my calendar to see what year this was.

Well Stewart Bradley comes back next year so that will help. I still think they need an OLB and as for McNabb...I can always wish.

Another troublesome stat over the last 2 weeks, Brent Celek has monster first halves and completely disappears in the 2nd half. I assume defenses are making halftime adjustments but why do the Eagles have no answer?
