I agree, getting Gresham in Black and Orange is probably too good to be true

Well it just comes down to whether another team that likes him jumps ahead of us or even if a team ahead of us decides to address that need. That said, it sounds like he's not necessarily the consesus #1 TE. I still hate that he has injury issues. Hate to think he'd turn into a more expensive Coffman.If only Mays could find a way down to us.-QG

That's pretty much what I figured. I followed the Bengals all season after watching Hard Knocks and ended up with Benson and Ochocinco on both of my redraft teams. I think Cedric finally got "it," but he'll be undervalued again going into 2010 because of his past. If the Bengals can show a little more explosiveness out of the passing game Benson's TD totals should improve and he could threaten the top 10. He showed the kind of consistency I like to have out of my RBs.His long TD run in the playoff game was a thing of beauty. He didn't have the opportunity to break open like that too many times in the regular season.

I saw a lot of Andre Smiths last year. Year before that was mostly Sedric Ellis, but NO jumped in front. I did see some with Ellis going earlier and Cincinnati taking Rivers. 07 was Hall or Revis in most mocks. I don't remember what 06 was... but I'm pretty sure Joseph was a suprise.QuizGuy66 said:

This makes the Jones signing much much more intriguing (it also may put a more reasonable frame of expectations on the guy).:
1) It would definitely make it appear that the Bengals will probably NOT take Gresham in the first round. Given that are injury concerns (and perhaps they just don't see it as a position worthy of a first-round investment with other needs), this is probably a positive on balance.
2) It's more bad news for Chase Coffman. In a perfect world, the kid should be the #2/receiving TE coming into this year. That they feel the need to sign Jones is another vote of non-confidence in Coffman IMO.
3) It leads me to believe that they are that much more inclined to resign Kelly - and ultimately I think that will get done.
4) WR now sticks out like a sore thumb and there will be their choice of guys down at the bottom of the first round. Probably to the point that I wish they'd trade down but they almost never do that. It probably would take a superior talent falling to them to get off that plan. Still, signing Jones makes TE less urgent and by implication gives additional flexibility at that 1st-round spot.
What do you guys think of TE Matt Jones as opposed to WR Matt Jones?

Bump as I'm sure the Bengals will be throwing money all over the place during free agency 
Ocho Uno interest was confirmed. Frankly if they can get him for a year I don't think it's all that bad.
Walter has turned into a nice player, though I'm more sold on Caldwell stepping into that role than into the Henry role.

Jimmy Graham has only played one year of football.. was on the basketball team before that. But his combine probably messed up the chance to fall to the Bengals 3rd. I really can't see them choosing one before then.

Bengals have contact Antonio Bryant. This would be a nice signing for a couple years if he can stay healthy.

Halfway there! I'd still be happy with Owens. I'd take Bryant. I wish they would have gone after Boldin, like every other fan of every other team. Hard to believe they signed Coles last year for the same as Boldin was signed this year.

I think Delhomme would be an upgrade at #2. Excellent? Not so sure about that - he really went down hill in a hurry. When you factor in that a big problem with our O-line is the lack of time they give routes to develop, a pick machine like Delhomme has become isn't all that appealing. For a reasonable price, though, I wouldn't mind seeing him. Would be shocked if they went that way, given the other needs they have.Totally fine with Bryant coming in here. Actually - do you there is a scintilla of a chance that they would sign BOTH Owens and Bryant? Right now I wouldn't mind seeing like 10 WRs in camp and having a battle royale for the spots. Most likely, I think it'll be one of 'em, a drafted WR in the first couple of rounds and a 2nd guy drafted in around, say, round 4. Very glad that Carson is being pro-active in the process.Don't forget Earl Thomas when thinking about the possible safeties the Bengals might grab. Coles was positively sure-handed compared to this guy last year. He dropped everything. Oh, except during the Week 17 Jets game when everyone else played terrible - THEN he finally learned to catch.
I mean Foschi got signed off the street and passed him. Ugh

So tell me Bengals fans, is Carson Palmer's arm a concern? I've read it is shot. I've read that it was the receivers. So what happens here?

This mostly. There was alot of drops last season and the OL didn't give Carson that much time.

I don't know. He missed a lot of passes late in the season when he was not being rushed.

Palmer's accuracy last year was woeful. Yes, Coles dropped a lot of passes. However Palmer missed a bunch of open targets also last year.The Bengals will do well if their D plays to a high level again, but if Palmer throws like he did last year, they won't be going deep into the playoffs.

There are three things with Carson (and the offense) last year that have/had me concerned.#1 - There is definitely something not quite right with Carson's elbow. He had a pretty substantial injury to it and opted out of surgery so that he could return sooner. Unfortunately returning sooner I think meant not at a 100% because his arm strength certainly wasn't there. I'm hoping another offseason of mixing in rest and the weight room gets him back to where he was. You guys have to remember. It was an elbow injury. Not his shoulder. He should still be able to sling it, but you gotta understand.....he rested it for many months before he started throwing again. I'm sure during that time he wasn't lifting either. You do that as an athlete and the muscle melts away.#2 - This issue I saw sporadically throughout the year, but it really showed in the playoff loss. Carson was not stepping into his throws. I'm not sure if it was the 2005 playoff game injury messing with his head, but he didn't look comfortable in the pocket and he looked scared to follow through with his front leg. Mix that with his elbow still not 100% and you see a very off quarterback who, on the surface, looks like he's lost it. That his arm is shot. I don't think that's the case here. I may be wrong, but I feel confident in saying that he'll prove some folks wrong that have written him off. #3 - The offensive playcalling was atrocious. I understand that we changed our identity last year. We had been missing (since 2006) a strong running game. We found it last year and I know you have to run to win. Having said that, it's as if we were content in just running the ball and playing defense. Now, the big question is why did we get so conservative? Was it Carson's arm? Was it the horrendous play at WR? Was it just bad play calling? Those questions will start to be answered now that they signed a legitimate threat at WR opposite Chad. Hopefully that opens up things in the offense. If so, that will start to tell us truly what we still have in Carson. I'm hopeful.

I disagree. He's been the OC since 2001. The Bengals offense has been ranked 23, 18, 13, 18, 6, 8, 10, 32, 24 since he took over in 2001. You can chalk 2008 up to the Fitzpatrick show. I'm saying the jury is out for 2009 because we don't know if it was because of Palmer's inadequacies due to health or if the playcalling was just really, really horrible. Judging by Brat's track record as OC and Palmer's stats prior to his elbow injury, I'm expecting a bounce back next year. Initially I blamed this all on Bratkowski (during the season), but after taking a step back and seeing Palmer struggle in the playoff game.....I'm fairly convinced that he just wasn't 100%. I'm hoping that changes before September.

Re-signed Roy for a 1 year deal. Good move I think. Now let's get Bobbie signed and get Ray, Odom and Jeanty healed up.
I think all these mocks showing Cincy taking Greshman in the first are crazy. They need a dual TE that can block and catch. I'd love to see Iupati or Mays in the first. They'll go for Anthony McCoy from USC in the second or third.

I do not disagree about the Bengal needs, but Gresham is a good blocker. McCoy is as well. With the extreme depth at the TE position in the draft, I would like to see Cincy address other needs first.

I'm not a fan of any of the WRs except Dez in the first couple rounds. Still think Safety or lineman in the first and second, then Anthony McCoy from USC in the third.

Finally got Bobbie officially signed, after what seemed like 100 false positive reports. I'm happy that it's only a 2-year deal. I think the probability of us drafting a guard in the first 3 rounds just went up and that's a good thing.

With the signing of Mathis today, the Bengals have no remaining unrestricted free agents left. Seems like they've done a very good job keeping the guys we want to keep.
