Well it just comes down to whether another team that likes him jumps ahead of us or even if a team ahead of us decides to address that need. That said, it sounds like he's not necessarily the consesus #1 TE. I still hate that he has injury issues. Hate to think he'd turn into a more expensive Coffman. If only Mays could find a way down to us.-QGI agree, getting Gresham in Black and Orange is probably too good to be trueRandom question - how often do the mocks accurately project what we do? Thanks.I think that Benson will actually get a load similar to this past season. They probably hope to shave maybe a few carries (say 5 or so) per game for Scott to keep Benson fresher, but I think Cedric will only really be happy if he gets basically every carry. And a happy Cedric is definitely in their best interest. I like Scott a lot and think that he could take on the job if Benson went down but I think he's probably a couple years away from becoming our bell cow. I believe it's about 99.9% certain that LJ will be gone. I think both sides probably figured it as a short-term arrangement. LJ will want to be somewhere where he has a better shot at being the starter or at least get a good share of carries. In Cincy he is defintively back #3.I figure that they'll end up with 4 backs dressed each game. Maybe having 1 on the practice squad.Benson-Scott-Leonard in his awesome 3rd-down utility role and then Jeremi or Fui at fullback.-QGWhat are the expectations for Cedric Benson in 2010? I've seen that the Bengals are in talks for a contract extension with him and his agent. Will Larry Johnson stay with the team, will Bernard Scott see an increased role, or should we expect the same type of typical 25 carry load for the #1 RB in this offense?
That's pretty much what I figured. I followed the Bengals all season after watching Hard Knocks and ended up with Benson and Ochocinco on both of my redraft teams. I think Cedric finally got "it," but he'll be undervalued again going into 2010 because of his past. If the Bengals can show a little more explosiveness out of the passing game Benson's TD totals should improve and he could threaten the top 10. He showed the kind of consistency I like to have out of my RBs.His long TD run in the playoff game was a thing of beauty. He didn't have the opportunity to break open like that too many times in the regular season.I saw a lot of Andre Smiths last year. Year before that was mostly Sedric Ellis, but NO jumped in front. I did see some with Ellis going earlier and Cincinnati taking Rivers. 07 was Hall or Revis in most mocks. I don't remember what 06 was... but I'm pretty sure Joseph was a suprise.QuizGuy66 said:Random question - how often do the mocks accurately project what we do? Jimmy Graham has only played one year of football.. was on the basketball team before that. But his combine probably messed up the chance to fall to the Bengals 3rd. I really can't see them choosing one before then.Random question about TEs - and if need be I'll post it in its own thread: Marvin said something about how in the modern era playing basketball might be better training for being an NFL tight end (totally paraphrasing). Was wondering which of the TE prospects fit that bill as maybe we have one of them targeted as a mid-round TE choice.
You really don't think he'll be there? How many TEs get chosen by the time in gets to pick 85 in the draft? -QGJimmy Graham has only played one year of football.. was on the basketball team before that. Halfway there! I'd still be happy with Owens. I'd take Bryant. I wish they would have gone after Boldin, like every other fan of every other team. Hard to believe they signed Coles last year for the same as Boldin was signed this year.I wouldn't mind them cutting Coles, taking his cap hit in an uncapped year, and taking the 4.6 million due him next year and giving it to Owens. Coles is owed 4.6 this year and 6.4 in each of the next 2 years. Every second they keep him is a second too long.
There was a rumor yesterday that the Bengals might go after Marshall, but no clue how likely that is.Halfway there! I'd still be happy with Owens. I'd take Bryant. I think Delhomme would be an upgrade at #2. Excellent? Not so sure about that - he really went down hill in a hurry. When you factor in that a big problem with our O-line is the lack of time they give routes to develop, a pick machine like Delhomme has become isn't all that appealing. For a reasonable price, though, I wouldn't mind seeing him. Would be shocked if they went that way, given the other needs they have.Totally fine with Bryant coming in here. Actually - do you there is a scintilla of a chance that they would sign BOTH Owens and Bryant? Right now I wouldn't mind seeing like 10 WRs in camp and having a battle royale for the spots. Most likely, I think it'll be one of 'em, a drafted WR in the first couple of rounds and a 2nd guy drafted in around, say, round 4. Very glad that Carson is being pro-active in the process.Don't forget Earl Thomas when thinking about the possible safeties the Bengals might grab. I think they'd snag him ahead of any of the WRs.-QGosubuckeyeman said:I think WR or Saftey is the position for the Bengals. I think if Tate is still around you go ahead and grab him. Taylor Mayes seems incredible, but he reminds me of Roy Williams and in today's NFL I'm not sure a big run support Saftey is what we need. I would love to get Berry and moving up a little to get him seems like a decent move. Bengals prefer to sit and wait than to move up.Carson is starting to worry me, but I don't think it's time to make a move and really not impressed with anyone at that position in this draft. Bradford is the only one I could see as a franchise pick and Clausen is trouble in a bottle. Delhomme released????? He could be a excellent # 2.
Antonio Bryant coming into town tomorrow. Should be interesting.
Btw, they were suppose to have Chris Baker in today for a visit. Would be good if they can sign a WR and TE before the draft - would give them a much freer hand with their draft picks.-QGT.O. will be here too.Antonio Bryant coming into town tomorrow. Should be interesting.

Getting Tank bank was nice
His elbow is a concern. Frankly I think if the o-line can give him just a little more time in the pocket he'll be fine.-QGSabertooth said:So tell me Bengals fans, is Carson Palmer's arm a concern? I've read it is shot. I've read that it was the receivers. So what happens here?

Palmer's accuracy last year was woeful. Yes, Coles dropped a lot of passes. However Palmer missed a bunch of open targets also last year. The Bengals will do well if their D plays to a high level again, but if Palmer throws like he did last year, they won't be going deep into the playoffs.I don't know. There are three things with Carson (and the offense) last year that have/had me concerned.#1 - There is definitely something not quite right with Carson's elbow. He had a pretty substantial injury to it and opted out of surgery so that he could return sooner. Unfortunately returning sooner I think meant not at a 100% because his arm strength certainly wasn't there. I'm hoping another offseason of mixing in rest and the weight room gets him back to where he was. You guys have to remember. It was an elbow injury. Not his shoulder. He should still be able to sling it, but you gotta understand.....he rested it for many months before he started throwing again. I'm sure during that time he wasn't lifting either. You do that as an athlete and the muscle melts away.#2 - This issue I saw sporadically throughout the year, but it really showed in the playoff loss. Carson was not stepping into his throws. I'm not sure if it was the 2005 playoff game injury messing with his head, but he didn't look comfortable in the pocket and he looked scared to follow through with his front leg. Mix that with his elbow still not 100% and you see a very off quarterback who, on the surface, looks like he's lost it. That his arm is shot. I don't think that's the case here. I may be wrong, but I feel confident in saying that he'll prove some folks wrong that have written him off. #3 - The offensive playcalling was atrocious. I understand that we changed our identity last year. We had been missing (since 2006) a strong running game. We found it last year and I know you have to run to win. Having said that, it's as if we were content in just running the ball and playing defense. Now, the big question is why did we get so conservative? Was it Carson's arm? Was it the horrendous play at WR? Was it just bad play calling? Those questions will start to be answered now that they signed a legitimate threat at WR opposite Chad. Hopefully that opens up things in the offense. If so, that will start to tell us truly what we still have in Carson. I'm hopeful.Palmer's accuracy last year was woeful. Yes, Coles dropped a lot of passes. Is Bratkowski still the OC? If so, that ain't gonna change.#3 - The offensive playcalling was atrocious.
I disagree. He's been the OC since 2001. The Bengals offense has been ranked 23, 18, 13, 18, 6, 8, 10, 32, 24 since he took over in 2001. You can chalk 2008 up to the Fitzpatrick show. I'm saying the jury is out for 2009 because we don't know if it was because of Palmer's inadequacies due to health or if the playcalling was just really, really horrible. Judging by Brat's track record as OC and Palmer's stats prior to his elbow injury, I'm expecting a bounce back next year. Initially I blamed this all on Bratkowski (during the season), but after taking a step back and seeing Palmer struggle in the playoff game.....I'm fairly convinced that he just wasn't 100%. I'm hoping that changes before September. Is Bratkowski still the OC? If so, that ain't gonna change.#3 - The offensive playcalling was atrocious.
Re-signed Roy for a 1 year deal. Good move I think. Now let's get Bobbie signed and get Ray, Odom and Jeanty healed up.
I think all these mocks showing Cincy taking Greshman in the first are crazy. They need a dual TE that can block and catch. I'd love to see Iupati or Mays in the first. They'll go for Anthony McCoy from USC in the second or third.

I do not disagree about the Bengal needs, but Gresham is a good blocker. McCoy is as well. With the extreme depth at the TE position in the draft, I would like to see Cincy address other needs first.Re-signed Roy for a 1 year deal. Good move I think. After the Bryant signing, really doubt Mikey is going to throw him an offer. If he gets one, it'd probably be full of incentives. In other news looks like Rashad Jeanty is signing the Bengals tender offer. So, T.O. was in the front row cheering on Chad on DWTS last night. Message to Mike Brown??

Seriously, it's a nice offseason so far for Cincy. Unfortunately everything for next year still comes down to what the scoop is with Palmer.

Hrm, I dunno. That said, Collins has been a good depth guy all around.Perhaps the question that should be posed is how you would order the prospects that may be avaiable to us at #21.Let's see, the possibilities, realistic and unrealistic are - in no particular orderAnybody think Collins could do better at guard than Evans or Mathis? If not, I think we need to grab Iupati or Pouncey in the first. Unless Earl Thomas is on the board.
