Spears returned to practice last week, along with Brooking, Sensabaugh and Dez.Columbo is expected to return to practice this week once he is cleared medically. It appears they assume he will be.Kosier is expected to miss at least the first game and possibly as many as three, which would put his return following the bye.Time to retire the offseason thread.Has anyone heard about Columbo, Spears and Kosier as far as return dates? I expect Kosier is still a couple of weeks away, but aren't the other 2 close to returning?I can't wait to see Dez!
Ware is going to have fun against a rookie LT making his first NFL start.
To be fair Washington played the Cowboys tough last year, it took a last second Crayton TD to pull out the win. On the other hand their defense was what made them good adding Jim Haslett as their D-coordinator should cause them to take a step back on defense. I see them finishing 3rd behind Giants and Cowboys.I dont get the washington hype anyway. Didnt we dominate McNabb last season when he was healthy and on a better team?
I dont think there is any way this team beats out the Eagles for third. They are a last place team and will be picking their next franchise QB in the top 10 in next years draft. To be fair Washington played the Cowboys tough last year, it took a last second Crayton TD to pull out the win. They'll be competitive, but will end up last in the division. Between us, giants and eagles, thats 6 losses right there. Maybe they'll split with the eagles. Get McNabb to play for 3 years. This year just to play, next year to mentor/tutor their new franchise QB, and the third year as backup(if mcnabb agrees).I dont think there is any way this team beats out the Eagles for third. Just wishful thinking of seeing McNabb throw at his WR shoes for as long as possible for the redskinsYou really think McNabb has 3 years left in him? Maybe I'm crazy but I think McNabb can play for another 3 years, he is only 1 year older than Tom Brady and the same age as Peyton Manning (34). I fully expect Brady and Manning to play for the next three years why not McNabb? You really think McNabb has 3 years left in him? I don't.
He's already proven that he's a shaky immobile QB. He's not getting more mobile. Those other guys have proven their pocket skills. I can easily see Peyton going to 42 or 43 if he wants to. Brady with the ACL it's harder to project.Maybe I'm crazy but I think McNabb can play for another 3 years, he is only 1 year older than Tom Brady and the same age as Peyton Manning (34). 6-years/$57 million.ETA: UpdateThe contract extension is six-years for $54 million. Coupled with his $3 million salary he received for his one-year restricted free agent tender this season, Austin's total contract is now a seven-year deal worth about $57 million that will run thru 2016.Rotoworld: Cowboys signed Miles Austin to a six-year contract extension.NFL Network's Michael Lombardi has it as seven-year, $50 contract, but he's likely including Austin's $3.168 million 2010 salary. At first glance, it doesn't match Roy Williams' six-year, $54 million millstone, but we've yet to see the guaranteed numbers. Austin had been patient awaiting the new deal after he left Williams in the dust as the Cowboys' No. 1 receiver last season.Source: Tim MacMahon on Twitter
Colombo and Kosier out for a big road game, I don't like that. Inexperienced linemen on the road is a recipe for disaster, what a bummer. This game will be tight and IF won, will be won by the Dallas defense. They will need to get consistent pressure on McNabb and look for S. Moss lined up in the slot. I think he's the guy who could hurt us. Obviously turnovers in a game like this will be huge, getting shortened fields and taking advantage of it. Lose the turnover battle on the road, you will lose. Let the defense play their game, don't make the big mistake as point will be a premium I believe in this game. The Cowboys players voted on their team captains today and here are the results:Marion Barber, Jason Witten, Tony Romo, DeMarcus Ware, Keith Brooking, Bradie James and Sam Hurd. And here is the injury report for Week 1:COWBOYS OT Marc Colombo Knee Out G Kyle Kosier Knee Out S Gerald Sensabaugh Shoulder Probable OT Sam Young Knee Out REDSKINSOT Jammal Brown Hip Questionable LB Andre Carter Illness Questionable QB Donovan McNabb Ankle Questionable S Kareem Moore Knee Doubtful LB Perry Riley Foot Questionable RB Mike Sellers Knee QuestionableAmong the Redskins "Questionables", LB Perry Riley is considered to be the "most" Questionable.
I kind of think the offense determines this game. Bryant's presence will create space for the other receivers. It will not be easy for DEFs to double Austin, Witten and Dez. Romo just has to deliver the ball to the guy in single coverage and burn the WAS DEF early and often. I think we win by 10+.Colombo and Kosier out for a big road game, I don't like that. He doesn't have to catch a lot of passes to impact the WAS coverage. Romo was connecting with him early in camp in single coverage situations and I think if he gets a 3rd CB as a defender he will make at least one big catch. That will be enough to strain the WAS coverage as Witten and/or Austin may get a little more room on their routes. JMO.Fair enough Routilla, I think if we're counting on a rookie WR to be a large part of this potential victory we're in big trouble.
i wish i shared your optimism.the fact is, this version of the Cowboys has not played well with O-line injury.the skins are a tough division game no matter how you slice it. and their D isnt half bad.i could see this game going either way.He doesn't have to catch a lot of passes to impact the WAS coverage. That was a great preview you linked to. I was thinking along the same lines, like Dallas 13 - Washington 12. A close, dirty, ugly win.I'm going to play the Jimmy Johnson card here and remind everybody that there are three phases to a football game of which you need to win two of the three to give your team a chance to ultimately win the game: Offense, Defense and Special Teams. Jimmy used to remind us of this all the time and it has always stuck with me because he was right. People have a tendency to overlook special teams far too often. Heck, even Bob Sturm neglected to mention it in this very nice game preview he wrote up here:http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/091110dnsposturm.4558032.html
Funny how just a year ago special teams was all the buzz here in Dallas. From the acquisition of special teams coach Joe DeCamillis to the "perceived" special teams draft of 2009, including drafting a kicker solely as a kickoff specialist. Wow, now it's almost as if we all take it for granted when it was such a glaring concern by the end of the 2008 season.
Let me be clear here. I'm not trying to belittle anybody here. I'm just simply making an observation. This has become an exciting part of the Cowboys game. Big plays can come out of special teams and I think we'll see that tomorrow night. Between that unit and the defense, I feel pretty confident that those two units will deliver this particular victory. Our special teams are pretty damn good (remember?), and now we have Akwasi Owusu-Ansah returning kicks and we will see Dez Bryant returning punts. If Buehler hits his field goal attempts this unit should shine, coverage units included.
I'm going to say something like Dallas 20, Washington 6.
:X I will add that in most cases it is ridiculous to say cut player X because of a mistake but in this case (Alex Barron) I truly believe it is justified. How in the hell did he beat out Brewster? Its gonna be a long week.
Might be a long year. The play calling was horrible, the kicker is still crappy, oline is dinged with no depth, just a lot of dumb plays and dumb coaching. I think I've had it with this group. That first half was so freaken bad, then that stupid TD Washington got on the last play of the half. The Nfc East isn't any good this year. The Eagles are a .500 team, The Skins are terrible, the Giants are a borderline wild card type team and you have the underachieving Cowboys. Its gonna be a long week.
How about there are too many weapons and nothing up front? Instead of drafting guys like Dez, and McGee, and other shiny pieces we don't need how about getting a few lineman every once in awhile? Is that so hard? Garrett just thinks that he has to spread the ball around too much. This season isn't a lost cause yet. I think the NFC is going to beat itself up to the point where 9-7 gets you a wild card, and 11 wins gets you out of the first round. I wouldn't be stunned to see a 7-9 division winner either out of the West.Anyone have any insight into Garrett? Is he just stubborn? I dont understand it the guy is a Princeton graduate and yet cant seem to get this offense consistent. I also am wondering what he saw on those consecutive smoke screens to Dez Bryant.
I would argue that Dallas realizes it needs to restock the o-line with youth and were thwarted in their attempts in the past couple of drafts. They had Unger on thier radar but Seattle took him a pick before theirs, and by all accounts they were high on Iupati but 49ers grabbed him before their pick. Love it or hate it the Cowboys draft for value not position and you really cannot argue with the results as they are among the best in the league in the past 2-3 years. How about there are too many weapons and nothing up front? It always cracks me up to think that the Saints' 5-11 interim head coach from 1985 and the guy who substitued Rob Johnson for Doug Flutie in Flutie's best NFL season is Jerry Jones' choice to coach "America's Team."i almost kind of saw that coming..............know what i mean? i literally was thinking about an offensive penaltly ending the game just before it played out.
alex barron is a true liability on the O-line.
he should be jobless tomorrow, period.
and that bullcrap at the end of the 1st half is inexcusable. this team is undisciplined and poorly coached.
for as well as the defense played, the mental mistakes by both coaches and players cost us a big division game on the road.
I liked the Saints better when their fans wore paperbags on their heads.SaintsInDome2006 said:It always cracks me up to think that the Saints' 5-11 interim head coach from 1985 and the guy who substitued Rob Johnson for Doug Flutie in Flutie's best NFL season is Jerry Jones' choice to coach "America's Team."Manster said:i almost kind of saw that coming..............know what i mean? i literally was thinking about an offensive penaltly ending the game just before it played out.

i think this is spot on. i'd like to see some big time O-linemen drafted in the first couple rounds.culdeus said:How about there are too many weapons and nothing up front?
