Official 2010 Dallas Cowboys In Season Thread (1 Viewer)

so is Barron still playing in the NFL because of where he was darfted? we were told by Rams fans that he was crap.he's been more penalized than Flozell. he proved last night that he has no business playing tackle in the NFL.
Hard to focus on the guy on TV, but I mean it seemed like he was so out of balance backpedaling from each snap. Say what you want about Flozell pre-snap, but once the ball got off clean he could really move around effortlessly. I just kept thinking Barron was going to trip over his own shadow. I'd love to see him run that drill where they backpedal and have guys with heavy pads just hit him high. That arm tackle of the neck on the last play also IMO should get him suspended.

Do you think that Barron getting the start over Brewster was mostly due to his experience and draft pedigree or do you think he actually was better in training camp?

maybe Andy can give us more info. on how Barron/Brewster looked in practice/camp.

what i saw in the game is, Barron looks like he's running in mud. the dude has no chance vs. speed rushers.

that holding call at the end was so bad, the skins players on the sidleline were pointing and yelling and not even watching Roy catch the TD.

He was out there b/c jerry traded for him. "Look what we got for Bobby" well, I miss Bobby.

lol. Forgot about that guy. I assume he's still in here plagiarizing others work as usual.

If you want to know how they looked in camp, read Rafael Vela. He was there. Bryan Broaddus can give you a rundown as well.

The offensive gameplan will always take a hit when the team has to drive 80+ yards to score every time. Few offenses are disciplined and powerful enough to sustain long scoring drives time and again. The defenses are too good.

You all saw what happened when Dallas finally got a short field last night... they rammed it right down Washington's throat.

Last night was just a repeat of last year's ineptitude when drives would flame out on a sack, penalty, or negative play. This team cannot withstand those and score consistently.

Get well soon, Marc Columbo.

He 'covers' all things Cowboys....

Don't know who he does it for exactly, or whose stuff he uses to do it with but....

Agree 100% with the bolded.Informative, and refreshingly objective about the Cowboys.

Bob Sturm is also fantastic. DMN had the very wise decision to bring him on this season. He runs his own blog, but now we'll get it at DMN as well. Just really, really good stuff.

Vela has split from Bloggin the Boys and now has his own blog, which can be found at http://www.cowboysnation.com/

Barron was out there over Brewster because the Coach, not sure if it is Garrett or Wade but think it is Garrett because he is the OC, always starts experience over youth unless Jerry mandates it.

I wouldn't cut Barron over one mistake but the guy had 3 holding penalties and the last one was BIG. The best way he could help the team right now is as an example.

I'm still not ready to discuss anything rationally, but was there a reason Choice was in the game so much more than Felix and Barber in the 4th quarter? I think another excellent example to be made would have been for Choice to have to earn his way back onto the field after his fumble to end the first half.

This team has no discipline and always seems to come in with a half ### attitude like they are supposed to win. The offense never goes in there to try and earn it.

The defense played lights out last night. The offense was in preseason form, again.

Wasnt all Barron's fault. Barber should have chipped that guy as well. On a play that big, should have been in max protect or something to keep Arakpo at bay. Why they werent double teaming him anyway...with barron struggling...is beyond me.

I hate Garrett. He sucks. He tries to get cute all of the time instead of just calling some normal plays. All these three back sets and BS do nothing.

choice is their third down back, so he'll be used in those 2min drill type plays

First of all, let me say that I'm extremely disappointed that Alex Barron has yet to be cut.

Brewster could certainly do no worse and at least has some upside.

That being said, both Kosier and Columbo are expected to return to practice tomorrow (Wed.).

At what capacity remains to be seen. I think Columbo is at least a little further ahead (medically) than Kosier right now, so hopefully he'll be in there on Sunday.

Cheer up, Cowboys fans: The Alex Barron era may be over

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 14, 2010 12:43 PM ET

Relief is coming for the beleaguered Cowboys offensive line.

ESPN's Matt Mosley wrote Tuesday morning he's getting "strong indications" starting guard Kyle Kosier and right tackle Marc Colombo will return to the lineup this week.

That means sports radio pinata Alex Barron will likely be holding a spot on the bench for a while. At least the Cowboys hope so. Colombo has a long history of injuries, and we hope the team doesn't rush him back to the field because they are desperate. The team doesn't appear likely to release Barron.

The Cowboys have been installed as 8.5 point favorites against the Bears. So they'll probably have to score more than seven points this week to cover.

They need to let go of Barron and pickup a veteran backup OL. If the Cowboys make the playoffs this year do you think Barron will even play a snap? I don't think so. It's a wasted roster space.

Wow, I can't believe the line is 8.5. I'm a Chicago homer so take this with a grain of salt, but if Dallas doesn't get to Cutler I think there will be 20+ Chicago points on the board. Not saying that Dallas can't match or exceed that, but I don't envision a Dallas win being an easy win.

You mean let Barron go and pick up a vet kicker.....

I wouldn't jump the gun on the kicker just yet. One miss doesn't kill a kicker. Any kicker can miss.

I am not going to pretend that the kicking situation doesnt worry me.

Shane Graham and Kris Brown are both out there.

Why dont we cut Barron and grab one of those guys.

This team has no discipline and no fear of getting cut. This could send a message and make a statement.

There's some rumors swirling the cowboys has contacted the Chargers about Marcus McNeil. Chargers want a 1st and a 3rd.

Also, they've asked the patriots about Mankins, who is up for grabs for a 2nd.

So.....giving up our first three picks next years draft, but we have some talent infused into the OL. Hate giving up so much in the draft, but the OL is really the big weak link(besides a kicker with aim).

Remember, Jerry wants to win this year. In his house.

In his mind, he needs to win this year.

Maybe we give SD a first and return their 7th they gave us for Crayton.

I don't think Mankins makes sense. Unless you want to move Bigg Davis to RT.

Yeah, but that was a kick that should be automatic for your full-time kicker. He is lucky Barron took the goat label off of him. Had he kicked that first one, it's 13-10.

Vela suggested this but I would be hesitant to make this move. While Bigg was a LT for Cards he struggled mightily against speed rushers, he still gets beat by pass rushers as a guard so putting him in space against a quicker DE would not bode well for Romo. Although I will concede that in an emergency situation (like Barron at RT) it should be considered.

Hastur not to be rude but where did you hear about these rumors? Often times over zealous fans are the origin of these rumors and I dont want to get my hopes up. If Cowboys got McNeil they could immediately move him to either LT or RT and suddenly Colombo becomes swing tackle for this year and Dallas has bookend tackles for the next 4-6 years. Then in the upcoming draft try to find a young C and G and the offensive line is retooled. Honestly other than O-line there are no real weaknesses assuming they resign 2/3 Bowen,Hatcher, Spears.

Oh, you're not being rude. I'm fully aware I breached forum protocol by not supplying a link, just labeling it under 'rumor'. I apologize for that. Mankins rumor link:

It's on ESPN's website, listed on their football page in the highlight box to the right, the last item. Problem is the article is for premium members. Maybe anybody who is a member could paraphrase the report but it's interesting that it's out there.
Forget the McNeil deal. I read the original source material wrong. It was pure speculation. Horrible breach of protocol on my part, and I shall ban my self from this thread for a month as retribution.

I have been saying for the past 3 years that this team has no offensive identity. Still stands today.
 I'm still amazed at how Romo is able to put up the numbers he does because he looks so confused out there. He just looks uncoordinated and lost. But I think a lot of it is the play calling too as someone has already mentioned. They try to get cute and pass the ball when they are running the ball well and try to run the ball when the passing game is going off. :coffee: Just seems like they are poorly coached because seems like they have way too many drive/TD killing penalties.

Your high on something if you think Chicago will put 20+ on the board against the Cowboys defense. Maybe special teams and/or defensive TD they could crack 20. The problem with that spread is the Cowboy's offense and Garrett's play calling. If Chicago puts up 10, I have serious doubts the Cowboys would cover.

Ugh, as bad as the o-line was (Barron), the running game looked good. Unfortunately Garrett thinks 1 or 2 good run plays is enough, then back to the cutesy crap. RUN DAMN BALL, again & again, pound the defense soft, mix in some "smart" pass plays and keep them off balance.

I think Garrett would be the worlds worst chess player, he might have a great understanding of strategy & tactics, but he would be in such a hurry to quickly win he would overlook something and get burned by the opponent.

Great article on the bloggintheboys.com as it highlights three key plays and breaks them down. Very interesting stuff. After reading I actually have more confidence in Jason Garrett scheme wise. On one of the plays if Barron just gets in the way of Hall it is a Marion Barber touchdown. Really good read though recommend checking it out.

Oh and on a positive note Colombo and Kosier are back at practice. Somewhere Tony Romo is smiling.

Maybe Barron will get cut afterall.

Baltimore cut CB Bryan McCann yesterday and all indications are that the Cowboys would like to bring him back.

All they need is a roster spot to do it. I'm crossing my fingers.

Glad to see McCann back. They are too stubborn to cut Barron, even though they should have left him for dead in the Skins visting locker room.

Any updates on the OL and if they will be full strength in week 2?
Marc Colombo and Kyle Kosier will play after going through their second day of practice without an issue, but that doesn't mean they will play a full game.Wade Phillips said he would work in Alex Barron and Montrae Holland at least some because Colombo and Kosier have missed so much time as they recovered from knee injuries. Phillips also said Kosier has taken some snaps at center this week in practice, which could indicate the Cowboys could go with seven linemen on their 45-man roster instead of eight. If it is eight, then rookie Phil Costa would be active again.

"I think you have to have a feel for that in the game," Phillips said of subbing Colombo and Kosier. "Like last week we had guys fresh that we wanted to sub for but they were doing well. Now I think when a guy's been injured it's a little different set of circumstances. There's still a feel for it than just, 'Oh, you have so many plays,' but we do have to look at it no matter how fresh they say they were we need to sub for them."
