Official 2010 Dallas Cowboys In Season Thread (1 Viewer)

It was a nice win. I had a feeling the game would end like this because the Cowboys were really backed into a wall and the Texans were riding high. The cornered dog always wins in that kind of situation.

I think it was a tease of how good the Cowboys could really be. Balanced attack. Strong defense. One of the keys to the game was giving MBIII the ball more consistently. I love Felix and Choice but lets pound it with Barber and save the gadget crap for when the team is 7-2 or something...need balanced attack and no stupid penalties on defense...

Speaking of defense...I have always liked Brookings but man, that guy was getting beat like a drum all night and was getting a lot of penalties. Is Sean Lee healthy yet.....

MRIs on Witten and Kosier's knees showed no structural damage. However, both will be held out of practice this week.

Sean Lee was back at practice last week. I expect he'll be ready to see some defensive snaps for the Tennessee game.

It's hard to take a lot from that situation. And I don't really know what to make of the next two games either. Both teams seemingly are capable of anything. It's not like the NFC East is setting the world on fire either. So a early season collapse may have actually, for all practical purposes served this thing well.

TWO REAL GOOD SIGNS FOR DALLAS HEADING INTO THE BYE WEEK.

Doug Free-T- Cowboys Sep. 28 - 9:20 am et

Coach Wade Phillips is thrilled with first-year starter Doug Free, saying the left tackle has been the team's best offensive lineman and played at a Pro Bowl level.

Free has gone up against the likes of Julius Peppers and Mario Williams, yet he has yet to give up a sack through three games. The Cowboys thought that Free could do a good job, but even they admitted they didn't expect him to play this well.

Kyle Kosier-G- Cowboys Sep. 28 - 9:14 am et

Cowboys LG Kyle Kosier (knee) says he'll be ready to play in Week 5 after the team's Week 4 bye.

The Cowboys' trainers are optimistic, as well. Coach Wade Phillips said he's more concerned with Kosier than he is with Jason Witten, who also has a knee injury, because Kosier has had problems with the same knee since training camp.

Hey Andy, your avatar has died.
Bummer!Interesting that you picked up on who my avatar was though. I had originally chosen that when I was blogging for Footballguys while also writing for a local newspaper here.I was trying to think of or find a pic of somebody typing at a desk and remembered that pic of Stephen J. Cannell from "The Rockford Files" days. Of course, he wrote and produced several other TV hits as well.Since Footballguys no longer uses bloggers I may have to come up with a new avatar anyway. In any case, R.I.P. Stephen J. Cannell.

I can reasonably envision the Cowboys taking sole possession of first place in the NFC East by this time next week.

Titans @ Cowboys (1-2)

Giants (2-2) @ Texans

Packers @ Redskins (2-2)

Eagles (2-2) @ 49ers

Cowboys 2-2

Eagles 2-3

Giants 2-3

Redskins 2-3

We'll see...

Every Cowboys player in question was on the field during the media portion of today's practice: Jason Witten (knee), Kyle Kosier (knee), Dez Bryant (rib/hip), Sam Hurd (hip), and Martellus Bennett (ankle). Looks like the early bye week helped.

Cowboys starting fullback Chris Gronkowski thought Friday he'd be able to play with a groin strain, but he has been ruled inactive against the Titans. That means the Cowboys will rely on tight ends Jason Witten and Scott Chandler to block in the backfield as needed.

Other inactives: Stephen McGee (3rd QB), Micahel Hamlin, Brandon Williams, Phil Costa, Sam Young, Robert Brewster and Sean Lissemore. Rookie linebacker Sean Lee is active after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury, and likely will play in certain defensive packages.

Inactives for the Titans: Rusty Smith (3rd QB), starting wide receiver Justin Gage, starting left guard Leroy Harris, Jason McCourty, Robert Johnson, Rennie Curran, Mike Otto and Sen'Derrick Marks.

Absolutely worst performance by the Cowboys coaching staff in the last 3 years...enough is enough. This team should not be 1-3 and any move that Jerry decides to make in the next 48 hours I'm with 100%

What about replacing Wade with Garrett . . . or do you think Jason will opt to pass in that situation too?

All the pieces are in place, except for quality coaching and discipline. I'll go ahead and say that any number of fiery type coaches(Gruden, Cowher, etc.) would be able to step in next season and get 12 wins with a trip to the super bowl.

Being a fan of this team is like being in a dysfuctional marriage for me. I watched this game waiting to see how we were going to lose it. After we missed the FG I knew it was over.

That's a pretty accurate analogy. I don't know exactly where to put the blame but I am ready to move on with a different staff. I am tired of the stupid mistakes. How many times in the last 3 years have the Cowboys lost but we felt like we outplayed our opponent besides our blunders. I'm tired of the blunders, there are no excuses at this point, they're 1-3 and in last place in the division. That is absolutely pathetic!

When you look back and see how the Cowboys played against Houston two weeks ago, you have to wonder why they can't play like that on a regular basis. Their inability to do so is on the coaching staff. When a team comes out and lays an egg like they did in the first half today, after having a freaking bye, that means the team as a whole is not prepared and ready to play. Horrible.

As much as I loathe this coaching staff....i dont see what good a change mid season does. However for next year it's obvious to any average fan that the coaching staff is at least 50% of the problem and a change is warranted.

Not sure why all the shock about this. O line is atrocious. They were atrocious before the season started, their secondary is poo, and it's an undisciplined group led by an undisciplined coaching staff.

We are EXACTLY what our record says we are.

Did you see the Texans today? What Dallas did to them was nothing special, the Giants looked just as good or better. Dallas played a better team today than 2 weeks ago, that's why.

It's a team full of BETA Males. Some great guys who play hard and are good character guys. We don't have a TRUE passionate lay your life down type of player that inspires a whole team to do better. Tony Romo is the embodyment of this. Great guy, super nice, media friendly, well liked, smart and talented. Just doesn't inspire teammates to be better.SOMETHING is MISSING.

No, I wouldn't fire him midseason, that won't do anything. Wade and Jerry are pretty good friends, he'll finish out the year. I wonder if he'll resign at the end.

This team needs an offensive minded coach.Re-tool the Oline.Get a ballhawk safetyOH...and get an offensive identity. Hopefully one that values running the Football more. Garrett thinks he's playing Madden.

I don't buy that. Yes, the Texans are schizo, but if the Cowboys had been as prepared and ready to play today as they were two weeks ago, they would have beaten the Titans. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

I agree but who is good in the NFC?Green Bay? New Orleans? Minnesota? The truth is our division is so crappy that we're still not out of it due to that fact alone but I'm not in the mood to see anything half full. The key is to win these close games and get into the playoffs healthy. The Cowboys haven't done either.

I'm not sure what you're not buying. The Giants blowing out Houston in Houston definately makes the Dallas win less impressive. The Titans were physical today, they came to hit. No way I can say that about the Texans the last 2 weeks. The Texans were soft and Dallas took advantage of that. The Titans gave up some points but they do not play soft.

What a pathetic performance. Who's the secondary coach? The "let's just run through receivers and get 3 pass interference calls on the first drive" mentality was special.

Embarrassing to be a Cowboy fan right now. This team will never win a Super Bowl with Phillips and Garrett.
I'm not embarressed, this is when you find out who the real fans are and who bails to the next best team. I remember my Freshman year at college, at Eastern Michigan University, watching Dallas on TV in the dorms. Only 1 room on the floor had cable TV and Dallas was playing Washington. Dallas hadn't won a game and Washington was a powerhouse. Dallas went on to win that game 13-3 and was the only game they won that year. I believe Washington went on to win the SB. My point is I wasn't embarressed to be a Cowboy fan that night nor will I ever be.Time to bring in Bill Cowher, if he won't coach then Brian Bilick.

Tony Romo played bad too. Way too many picks, other balls that should have been picks. I'm tired of M. Bennett too. Bad things seem to happen with him in close games. He's a bum.

Ok in the Eagles/49ers game after the Pick-6 the Eagle who scored did a jump and bump with another Eagle. Why wasn't that a penalty yet what Witten did was a penalty? That penalty lead to the special teams gaffe that cost us the game (among other things).

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

It isn't even worth discussing wade/garrett future's anymore.

The real problem is finding someone that can turn this around rapidly and will act with autonomy. I really don't think there is a candidate out there like that. Is there some guy that could run things on an interim basis? I doubt it.

I haven't followed Brian Schottenheimer's scene lately. What's the current thinking on him long term?

I still feel like drafting Dez Bryant was a huge mistake. We needed offensive line help and we needed a good young safety. This secondary is not good. Jenkins is a play maker but not a shutdown guy. Newman gets beaten every week.

I honestly dont think this team needed Felix jones the year they drafted him either. Too much foucs on the jersey sellers and not enough focus on the oline and safety.

Im just so frustrated and disappointed. This was a really winnable game and we just gave it away. Romo was sloppy today. The team was so undisciplined and the special teams were a joke. Just really sad.

I'm pretty resigned to seeing this season pissed away. It just isn't practical to turn the staff over right now, and whatever they bring in is gonna have some growing pains associated with it unless there's a strike. Kill me.

I would start firing coaches now. Not all at once mind you, but it is time to turnover the coaching roster.
How would you get this done exactly?I mean the three guys that need to go ASAP areWadeGarrettCampoIf you promote from within the only guy that really probably has the chance of any noticeable success is DiCamillas (spelling). And that guy may just say no. Who the hell else could you even dream of bringing in mid-season that wouldn't turn the thing into a total  ?

The most fundamental way of saying it is that Dallas is not a team. They're a roster, a roster that is theoretically talented, but that sucks playing together.

This is a classic sign of poor leadership, which starts and frankly ends with Jerry who insists upon hiring lackeys rather than leaders lest he not be seen as in control and getting credit for success, success which likely won't come anytime soon.

It's also a team that has prettied up its skill position players on offense and done zilch to make the line any good. It's a jalopy with beautiful trim, and I also believe that Romo is simply not all that good of a leader despite his skills. He's another version of Jeff George (not physically, but overall) without the bad attitude.

What you say in bold is 100% spot on. I'm not sure about the rest. Put me in the camp that doesn't care if Romo is a "leader". I don't care if any player is a "leader". Leadership falls to the coaches. The players are professionals and should have plenty of motivation to do well through money and all that comes with it. The number of guys that add anything tangible through their general demeanor or actions off the football field is tiny IMO, and probably is fostered by a coaching staff where it would not be possible to reproduce in another environment.

Well replacing Wade with Garrett would at least let Jerry see that Garrett has no business being in football so at least he won't be in consideration for next year. The 2 top names should be Cowher(who will never work for JJ) and Gruden(who I think we can actually get). This season is lost and now I'm hoping for an epic collapse so we get a great draft.

I cant believe there are people saying Romo is the problem. So ridiculous. The offensive line, linebackers and safeties are the problem.

Romo is just above Miles Austin on the list of things that aren't wrong. Imagine if we had a typical QB???? He would be dead or sacked 10 times a game. Romo keeps this team in games where other tradtional QB would not.

Using their last 3 1st round choices on a RB, WR, WR shows there is no direction to their drafting.
