***Official 2011 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Interesting...

The Eagles will not pursue any of their own free agents, including starters such as Stewart Bradley, Quintin Mikell and Sav Rocca and backup running back Jerome Harrison, the Inquirer has learned.

Other free agents who the team will not re-sign include Dimitri Patterson, Nick Cole and Max Jean-Gilles, all of whom played significant amounts last season, but struggled at their positions.

Weird.. I guess Seattle is out of the Kolb-stakes, if that was ever a question.

I just want to know what Zona is giving up.

I don't get why you dont keep a guy like Jerome Harrison. He doesn't cost much. He's young and he's produced everywhere he's been. Why not have a 1-2 punch of McCoy and Harrison? I don't understand why people are so eager to get rid of him everywhere he's been.

As for the Eagles, if they are not bringing those guys back, they are making lots of moves in Free Agency. They are going to buy a defense this year.

according to a report on rotoworld, Bradley's agent says the report is false and that he is currently in discussions with the Eagles (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4248/stewart-bradley). My guess is that with the potential whirlwind of today, you would have some of the bloggers jump on some things, maybe the guy at philly.com jumped on this story to put something out there. It would seem strange for the Eagles to admit to not resign any of their guys, it would seem to take away their leverage with other things. Of course there are a few LB's out there I would love to see on the Eagles. Nick Barnett and Keith Bullock would be fun to watch and could hopefully pick up the Eagles defense quickly

Ummmm, G-King? Approach the bench please.
Patience guys, this takes time. I can't say all I know yet, except that he will be in AZ. Some rumors have to be floated around to justify both sides. One team has to say that "They had to give alot to keep team X from getting him"; the other team has to say "We chose to take a little less than Team Y offered because we wanted him to go where it is best for the player" (remember the McNabb to Washington snow job?)Philly compensation is coming shortly....stay tuned.

Are Eagles fans going to be happy with the compensation? Impact player + pick as had been speculated? In G-King and DH we trust...
Haha I don't know..... I'm about to no longer be an Eagles fan! :bag: :football:Although it was fun while it lasted, I met lot's of great friends in this thread.

Well I'll always be appreciative that you tipped me (and obviously others) off to the fact that Maclin was really on the rise. Sorry that you had to endure some bull in other threads from those that didn't know your track record. Will you be following the Cards thread going forward I assume? Best of luck to Kevin...he always seemed to be a humble, hardworking, talented guy and I am genuinely disappointed we won't get to see what he could have done here.

Any possible insight on who the Birds new #2 might be?

Re: the #2 QB - I've heard some speculation about Tyler Thigpen, think he would be a decent fit. He's shown some flashes in the past, maybe Andy and Marty could coach him up a bit.

All :goodposting: but especially the bolded. Kevin is a true class act, for reasons that were evident to me publicly and privately. ...he deserves success where ever it may be and I will be rooting for him. And to GKing, the Shark Pool is fortunate to have you as a member as you add an insight to the forum that is highly valued and unique. I'm sure you will give the Cards fans much enjoyment with your insights. GB, our loss is their gain.

As for the bolded, do you have some sort of insider hookup status?

He just signed with Buffalo for 3 years (according to rotoworld). i think he would have been an interesting choice as well. I really dread the idea of Vince Young coming in, the guy obviously has mental health issues (well obvious by the reports I have read), and it does not seem like he wants to admit he needs help. Unless he has changed and hsa sought help, he would seem to be a lost cause

I just looked over the list of other FA QBs (not counting on people expected to be cut) and the prospects aren't pretty. Here are some names that don't make me want to puke immediately (in no particular order):

Bulger

Gradkowski

Grossman (I can't believe I actually typed that)

Matt Moore

Volek (maybe the best "veteran backup" choice, but he'll probably stay in SD)

Troy Smith

Seneca Wallace

Geez, I look at that and think Favre might not be the worst idea ever.

I think its safe to say that with GKing in our midst we've all enjoyed insider hookup status.

Give me one of those 3 buddy, and i think we are in good shape. Matt Moore and Gradkowski did good job filling in with less than ideal situations.

I think one of those three is fine as a 2-3 game stopgap in case of a minor injury. Volek could probably handle it a bit longer, too. If they had to go longer as the starter (say 5-8 games or through the playoffs) due to major injury I think visions of another strong playoff run (or even Super Bowl run) disappear more quickly.

I'd still rather have Young as the back-up even if there are maturity issues. If they can get him on a one year incentive laced deal that would be even better

why not Kafka? If he's as far along as the coaching staff praise he's been given then, once he gets some reps, he should be ready to roll. Keep Jerrod Johnson as the #3 and we are good to go?

If we sign VY, it would have to be a similar deal to Vick's from 2 years ago. Two year deal for the minimum thats heavy with incentives. We look at him the same way as we did Vick at the time. We rehab his career and then trade him for a decent draft pick. Obviously we ended up keeping Vick but VY wouldn't be a bad thing since the Eagles are basically the halfway house of the NFL. We get players back on their feet and restore their image.

:goodposting: Hard to say where Kafka is in his development, but it's not like he was a 7th round pick. It's entirely possible that he's ready to fill the backup spot.

what are the odds Desean Jackson holds out? anybody wiht any knowledge on this? How much would the offense suffer without him?

I would think McCoy, Vick, and Maclin could carry us for a short time without him but I am concerned about our prospects for the year if DJax decides to not particpate....

I don;t have any "knowledge" on it, but I do expect him to hold out. And he is right to. He is getting royally jobbed on his market value. The team needs to give him a new contract ASAFP.

Holding the clipboard on gameday and starting games if Vick goes down are 2 very different things. There is no way they go into the season with Kafka as the insurance policy. I want Vince Young in the worst way.

Get your Eagles Rodgers-Cromartie Jersey:http://store.philadelphiaeagles.com/Philadelphia-Eagles-Green-Custom-Authentic-Jersey-_-228408591_PD.html
I thought they couldn't wear 00?
This was maybe corrected on the website? WIP was reporting just a few minutes ago that you could get a DRC jersey on the site, but maybe they realized the error and corrected it?edit: Don't see him in the drop-down now.

I respect GKing, but if the Kolb deal was "already done" before this week it would have been consummated yesterday. It may still happen but it is clear there was no agreement. Just sayin.

The deal has always been Kolb to AZ. Whats happening now is both side trying to get the better deal. Posturing and playing other options off of each other for leverage. In the end it gets done but the compensation was always up in the air.

Schefter reporting now that it will be done by the end of the week. DRC and a pick for Kolb. Whats left to decide is the round of the pick and Kolb's contract.

That's fine but that's not deal, that a possible deal subject to further negotiations. If the compensation was always up in the air, there never was a deal.

What other options do the Eagles have?

Its not a deal on paper but Kolb to AZ is a deal in principle. The particulars could never be discussed openly.

OK, here's what I heard re: Kolb: It looks like the deal will be DRC and a 3rd round pick for Kolb. That 3rd can turn into a 2nd if Kolb hits certain numbers (my buddy was not sure what those numbers are, he is not a part of the negoiations). He THINKS the deal will be done Thursday, but right now ARI is trying to get a long term deal signed. That is what is holding things up.

The Phantom Seattle option and keeping him as a backup. For AZ it was Orton, Bulger et al. Its all posturing to get a better deal. Both sides know it. Now that all the distractions are moving away, we can see the picture as its always been. DRC and a pick which has been reported for weeks now.

That's a fair price for Kolb

What else are you hearing? It has been awfully quiet...
