***Official 2011 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Who would you give up among our offseason acquisitions to get a stud LB?
Steve Smith. While I think he's a very good WR who might help us down the stretch, so far he's caught 2 passes in 2 games. Stephen Tulloch didn't sign for much more than SS was given in guaranteed money and would have had a much larger impact IMHO.

Giants are a division rival. To expect a 10+ point win would be foolish. No matter how banged up they are they can still rush the QB. I think they'll win but it'll be hard fought and probably only by a TD at the most.

Philly's gonna smoke the Giants...stack 8 in the box and go man up on their recievers, while the Giants secondary won't be able to stop Jackson and Maclin. It's gonna get ugly, divisional foe or not.

42-10 Philly.
Wow talk about being overzealous all of a sudden eagles o line is dominant? Better hope so because giants have pass rushers galore. Eagles Kline was ok vs falcons but I would not use that as proof all is fixed. Pls excuse spellin using my iphone
Ginats do have a good D-line...but little else. Strangs things happen in divisional games, and only a fool would bet real money on these types...but an honest evaluation says the Eagles should smoke them. With a gun to my head, I'd go Philly 31 - 20, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Birds beat them worse than that.

Can someone explain the wide-9 to a non-ball coach? First time I've heard of this defensive alignment. tia.
The 9 refers to the gaps the DEs play in.Take a look at this:http://subscribers.footballguys.com/2010/10bramel_guidetodefenses1.phpAfter the topic titled "Defensive Alignments and Techniques" you can see the DE aligns outside the TE, which is the offensive "D" gap as well. Basically the "Wide 9" puts both DEs outside the TE on either side (or if no TE, outside the OT) and makes them edge rushers. That's Cole's strength by far, and Babin does well there too. The problem (again, look at diagram) is that there are 6 gaps between the two DEs (Offensive A, B, C on either side of center). If your DTs are two-gap DTs, that's fine - they play head up on the guards and cover A and B, leaving the C's for the outside LBs (WILL, SAM). The MIKE is free to roam and make plays. When the Ravens had their stupendous year, Ray Lewis was that guy behind two big DTs and this is what they did.The Eagles don't do this. Jenkins is a one-gap DT and I think Patterson (or whomever else rotates in) is playing either one- or two-gap. Philly doesn't have 2-gap DTs. Ideally they would, but they don't. So let's say the two DTs take away the A gaps. Offensive line crashes down to close the A's on either side of center. A guard scrapes off and can go after a LB play-side. The B's and C's are only covered by LBs, who are overmatched - and RBs can gash the defense with off-tackle runs.HTH

#eagles Vick participated in the walkthru today with just a sore neck. No concussion symptoms. I expect a ?able listing but he'll play
 Schefter this morning on M&M also agreed with Sal Pal's opinion that Vick will get the start. Hopefully he can finish. :football:

Vick won't play this week.
You sure about that?
Yes, I am. If he does, the Eagles are fools, plain and simple. Vick was f'd up beyond belief on Sunday and to play him on Sunday is almost a guarenteed re-injury.
I dont think so. I believe if this freak accident would have happened 20 years ago, Vick would have came back in the game sunday in the 4th and we would have won. The only talk would have been about how great of a player Vick is to play through the pain. He also would play this week no question. Anyways, if he passes all the tests and wants to play you gotta play him.

Comparing what we know about concussions now and what we knew about them 20+ years ago is crazy. They are MUCH more cautious now when it comes to them. As a person, I really couldn't care less about Vick's health as I still think he's a despicable human being. That being said, he's still the QB for the Eagles, so him getting re-injured would hurt the team in the long run.

You really think sitting this week would help his chances of surviving the entire season? I dont think it really matters

I have to wonder if our $100M QB would feel better if he was wearing a $5 mouthpiece. Shots to the jaw and concussions aren't completely avoided with one, but they sure do help.I'd make sure he wears one going forward.

Through the 2 games so far I have noticed that they line up in a pretty traditional 4-3 alignment a lot of the time. The splits only widen out on 2nd and long or 3rd and medium to long.

Hope juggling the LBers around will help. Never know though as it is still the same 3 players.

What was that defintion of insanity again?

I just do not get why this organzation is so dead set against good LBers. What was the last "above average" LBer the eagles drafted under Reid?

In other news, Jenkins got fined 15k for that hit on Ryan....what a joke

Exactly. Either he's cleared or he's not. Sitting him after he's cleared does nothing.

Brian Billick on ESPN radio this morning was asked about how he would handle injured players like Romo and Vick this week...would he be extra careful so the players are closer to 100% for later in the season. He said basically losing one game in the NFL was like losing 6 in the NBA or 12 in MLB. In the NFL you can't give games away at any point in the season. If the player says he's healthy enough and the doctors and trainers clear him, he plays. If the doctors clear Vick to play, he will play. And once again this morning they were reiterating that Schefter and Sal Pal expect Vick to be the starter.

Brian Billick's opinion means nothing to me. A has been coach who cant get a sniff at a job now. He won with a dominating defense and was brought in to make the offense better which he was a total failure. The guy drafted kyle boller. :X

PHILADELPHIA -- Eagles quarterback Michael Vick returned to practice Thursday, just four days after he suffered a concussion against the Falcons in Atlanta.

During the portion of Thursday's practice open to the media, Vick was seen throwing passes to assistant coaches, jogging around with teammates and participating in all the drills that the other quarterbacks, Mike Kafka and Vince Young, participated in.

Vick's participation indicates that he's been cleared by the NFL-appointed independent neurologist, required under the league's 2009 concussion policy for a player to "return to football activities."

That's good to see! I'm glad it wasn't as bad as we thought! I'm really interested to see how the Giants approach Vick in this game after they seemed to be the team that put the book out on him last season.

Well if it makes you feel any better, Mike Ditka agreed with Billick's assessment this morning. If you're counting, that's 2 Super Bowl winning coaches in agreement.

Any of you Philly homers hear anything about D-Jax? I know he was dinged up pretty good in the last game but haven't heard anything at all about him since. I also didn't see him on the injury report at all.

Is D-Jax a safe play at WR this week with Vick playing?

Thanks fellas.

So far so good. I think he took a shot on the forearm at some point early in the game last week and it bugged him all night. He's not the biggest guy out there. I think he's good to go from what I've read this week.

Just a heads up for those who dont know

Set your DVR's http://www.nfl.com/videos/a-football-life A Football Life - Reggie White & Jerome Brown
when is it on?The link gives me a McDonald's commercial
Thursday at 10pm, NFL Network.
Looks like it will air quite a few times - I set it up for 2:00am Friday morning due to a conflict.+ 1 on the thanks for the heads up. I didn't know about this either and I'm looking forward to watching it with the family and showing the kids a bit about 2 truly awesome past Eagles players while reminiscing a bit.

Jay Glazer reported on FOX this morning that the Eagles and Vick tried to get the NFL to approve adding kevlar inside of a helmet to help Vick - yet the legal guys got in the way. Nice to see marketing >> safety. I have always hated that the NFL licenses safety equipment (helmets).
