I just don't think it's fair to beat up on these rookies (i.e. Watkins, Jarrett and Matthews) without the benefit of literally no offseason whatsoever. From the time these guys were drafted to opening day, you're talking about them being exposed to the system for 4 1/2 months. These guys went from being drafted to not being allowed to so much as go into the NovaCare complex for four months. Next thing you know these guys are in Lehigh. Come on guys, be a little fair here, I know everyone is dissapointed, but they have had entirely new coaching philosophies installed without the benefit of anyone really having exposure to it. I can't say I'm shocked watching Kurt Coleman bouncing off of a 2nd rate WR like a pinball, he was drafted in the 7th rd while playing in the big 10. Late round draft picks by and large are not as good as guys taken early. Maybe after showing how important LB play is in this system, they'll start treating the poistion with urgency come this years draft.
Personally, I don't blame the players for this exact reason. I blame the team for putting themselves in this position, knowing the off season would be cut short. I don't get their logic here.
Not sure this is even fair.
No way the Eagles know in the spring how short the off-season would end up being, and no way should they have changed their plans without sure knowledge. It seems that Philly struggles in the first few weeks of most seasons, and usually goes on a tear in teh second half. I'm not sure why this year would be any differant, especially with new systems coaches and players all over the dang place. This team will be significantly better in the second half of the season, especialy on defense.
I'm as dissapointed as anyone in the start, but let's back away from the cliff. Get those LBs to play even near average, and this is a deep playoff team.
