I think it is very impressive given who the Redskins are missing. Here is the list of players on IR:Tanard JacksonJordan BernstineAdam CarrikerBrian OrakpoRoy HeluFred DavisBrandon MeriweatherKeenan RobinsonI was thinking, when the Redskins run the option where they have a wide receiver as the deep back, Roy Helu could do really well in that position. Maybe we will get to see it next year.

Football Outsiders has them at 39.2%, which sounds about right. Two paths to the playoffs, but they're both uphill battles. Either the Giants or the Cowboys are gonna get to 9-7 at least, so we have to go 3-1 minimum to win the division, and the Seahawks will benefit from an incredibly soft schedule over their final four games.

hadnt thought of that.i like it.great speed and better size than banks and morgan, who seem to be the guys there now.wuld be more productive if helu was out there to take the pitch for sure.

Among other things, a speed/change-of-pace back is a need for next year. Maybe Helu can be that guy.

Prior to Monday's game:

Tom Brady's MVP 2010-2011 season:

QB rating: 111.0, Total Yards: 3930, TDs: 37, Ints: 4, YPA: 7.9, Comp %: 65.9

RGIII's rookie season (pro-rated to a full season of 16 games):

QB rating: 104.6, Total Yards: 4566, TDs: 32, Ints: 6, YPA: 8.2, Comp %: 67.4

Not trying to compare the two. Just saying that what RGIII has done so far as a rookie on an offense that was in shambles last season is incredible.

I heard that Banks just does not run like a running back. He does not wait for blocks and does not follow blockers well. Helu can do all those things. Not sure how Morgan grades out, but they don't pitch the ball to him very often.

Griffin is currently leading the league in yards per rush and is a close second in yards per attempt. Nobody has ever led the league in both, according to a Comcast Sportsnet tweet.

He is crazy good.

Heard on NFL Live today, going back to Griffin's freshan year at Baylor he has only had 2 games where he has had multiple INT games. That's impressive.

Had a kind of annoying realization yesterday. You remember the controversial Golden Tate MNF "Touchdown," the one that ended the ref lockout. I remember at the time laughing at the whole thing, since it didn't really have anything to do with my team. But right now, there's a distinct possibility that the team that gets most screwed over by that blown call won't be the Packers ... it'll be us.

Can Crawford return kick-offs, too?
I wouldn't be surprised if we find out next week. Paul doesn't look good at it, and even before the long punt return I think Crawford had taken the PR job from Banks. He catches the ball and heads directly upfield and gains yards. Kind of the Anti-Randle-El.

Yeah, I don't like Paul back there either. I mean, how many TEs return kick-offs?

I wouldn't mind Paul doing it if he was surehanded, and if he didn't take so long to make up his mind which way to go.

@Rich_Campbell

RG3: "It shouldn't be an ACL. I know what an ACL feels like." MRI tonight. #Redskins

Fingers Crossed.Nice to see the team step up and really get fired up to win one for the Rookie Captain!

Sure. Which is why I only said "distinct possibility."But I believe that if that had been called correctly we'd be the #6 seed if the playoffs started today. Would be nice to have that game in hand, because I have a feeling we're gonna be slight underdogs this weekend even if RGIII plays.

If the Redskins take care of business, they will make the playoffs. No way both Seattle and the Giants win out.If the Redskins lose another game, they may need help.

And add Chicago to the group. No way Seattle, NY, and Chicago all win out.The Redskins are in good tie-breaker situations with all of them, so they just need to win one more game than one of those teams (preferably with NFC wins). If the Redskins are going to lose another game, Cleveland is the ideal loss.

Never been a fan of "if Team X takes care of business they make the playoffs" or "they have their destiny in their own hand." Those things are true about every team at some point. Good teams lose. Great teams lose. There's a difference between being favored in all of your remaining games and being >50% likely to win all of your remaining games. Redskins are WAY less than 50% likely to run the table here. It's reasonable to look at their prospects and the possibilities if they go 2-1.

FYI, here's Dr Bramel's current opinion:

Robert Griffin III avoided serious injury after a dramatic hyperextension injury yesterday. The wording of the Redskins’ press release – a clear MRI with a knee sprain – caused some confusion initially, as the MRI technically couldn’t have been “clear” and have a finding of a ligament sprain. I think the Redskins were simply trying to reassure their fans that Griffin’s knee was clear of the most significant ligament injuries – high grade sprains and/or an ACL tear. Based on the hyperextension and knee sprain report, it’s most likely that Griffin has a low-mid grade PCL sprain. That’s just my speculation, however; we’ll hopefully get more specifics from Mike Shanahan today. It’s also too early to say anything about Griffin’s return to play expectation. If the injury is low grade, it’s possible that Griffin could play this week, but it won’t be surprising to hear anything from a 1-4 week timetable.

Shanahan said Dr. Andrews gave the OK for Griffin to return to the game. That sounds like a good sign for upcoming games.

Just saw this little tibit:https://twitter.com/SigmundBloom/status/278265409256448000

Sigmund Bloom ‏@SigmundBloomThe Washington #Redskins are 6-1 when Pierre Garcon has played this year, 1-5 when he hasn't.

Heard this on the radio too. Why was Dr. Andrews on our sideline?

Griffin was out for 1 play. There wasn't any time to do any kind of examination during that time. Griffin was telling Shanahan he wanted to go back in, basically running on adrenaline. So they let him go back in. I think it's great they have a respected doctor on the sideline, but Andrews, Pasteur, and Madame Curie together couldn't have examined Griffin during the course of 1 play.

A Dr can feel a knee and tell right away if there is significant ligament damage.

How many years of medical training do you have? ;)You may be right, but you may be wrong. I'd err on the side of their doctors, who know how much money is riding on that knee.

He's the team doctor.
This was discussed a little on ESPN 980 today. Andrews is the Redskins team doctor and is on the sidelines most games. Steve and Andy gave Snyder credit for having the best available for the team during the games.

One thought: even before Crawfords big punt return in overtime, I thought that Banks will never return another punt for the Redskins again. Crawford's first two punt returns were 16 and 20 yards, which is excellent. Banks has been struggling all season returning punts.

crawford is a plus down the stretch as he adds hidden yds in the field position gm.nothing but a positive.nice to see someone head upfield versus the hesitiation gm banks has been playing when he rec the punt.

I once heard Mike Nelms talk about returning kicks. He said the goal was to run straight ahead as fast as you can and at the last moment, make a move to make the defender miss. He also rarely fair caught a punt, believing if he could catch it and pick up two yards before getting creamed, that is two less yards the offense needs to go in order to score.

I thought the same thing after his first 2 returns -- Banks lost his job. Then Crawford broke the big one. Banks dances, runs sideways, doesn't gain many yards, and fumbles way too often. He's been a liability all year. Crawford heads directly upfield and looks for creases, kind of like a RB runs. That's far more effective.

I'd err on the side of the doctors too. But Andrews didn't examine him until after the game. And then after that Griffin was sent for an MRI since you can only tell so much from an exam. The "examination" while Griffin was out for one play (and telling the coach he was going back in) consisted of Shanahan saying "Doc can he go back in?".I liked what Griffin said about the play. "I screamed. Like a man, of course." :) That game will live a long time in Redskin memories.
