Silly moves by Gagner on the GW shootout goal. The Yotes have to be sick. If you can't beat the Oilers at home you don't deserve to make the playoffs.

It's ok for BSS to start watching hockey again

I just bet on Detroit to win the East (18/1) and the Cup (45/1), btw. GO WINGS GO!
They would definitely need Zetterberg to do either of those things. As well as they are playing and coming together, he is still the heart and soul of the franchise.
If someone takes out Boston, the East is wide open. And at those odds there's going to be plenty of hedging options.series,
Agree. But if the Wings draw the Pens and beat them, they would have to play Boston. Columbus is actually a good team, I think for the first time in their franchise history, I actually respect them. I think they could give Boston a decent series, but likely wouldn't be able to beat them. Then again the Leafs SHOULD HAVE beat the B's last year, and they choked it away in epic proportions.

I do think the Wings could beat the B's, but I think doing it would take every ounce of energy they had and they'd get brained in the subsequent round. I think you have Rangers futures also, their seeding and goaltending tends to make more sense. A Pittsburgh/Detroit series would be pretty awesome, I already have tickets owed to me by a Pens fan so I'd probably go to a few games.

Dumb NHL question - If you're a team eliminated from playoff contention what is your strategy as a coach/gm?
Developing guys for next year and trying to knock someone else out. I think the only sport that doesn't do this is the NBA, where they seem to just throw in the towel hoping for a better pick.
Kind of like the Hawks right now.
WTF are you talking about?
Perhaps you hadn't been watching the 20 or 25 games leading up to that statement.
Seeing as the Hawks are going to the playoffs your statement makes zero sense. Also, with you keen insight I am sure you have noticed that the Hawks have only brought players up from the Hogs for injury replacements or trying to find replacements for Bolland, Frolik, and Stahlberg.

If the Wings beat the Pens they get Boston?? I thought Boston automatically got the winner of Tampa/Montreal.
I'm pretty sure you are right. I was confused about this months ago.

Once the 7 and 8 teams are placed in a division, they stay there until the conference finals.

No team will play the #1/#2 seeds back to back.

That's what I thought too. Dr D had me questioning it yesterday.I'm hoping for a Wings/Rangers semifinals.

Zero sense to someone with a complete lack of imagination and mental acuity.

Brayden Schenn is soft as puppy ####. Guy hits the ice for anything. Always leaving himself venerable to huge hits too, then looks for a penalty.

Think of it as 4 sets of brackets based on divisions. No reseeding. If Wings were to end up in Metro bracket they play a Metro team in second rd if they get there.

At least the Blues are allowing me to mentally prepare for their inevitable early playoff exit before the games even begin this year. Resources should have been spent on offense at the deadline.

UMass-Lowell goalie Connor Hellebuyck signed a three-year deal with the Jets this morning.

Not sure how he fits into their plans.

Montreal is #1 on my list of stadiums/arenas I most want to watch a game at.

Oh and those female Canadian Olympic athletes were ridiculously hot. Wow.

That's you in a hockey thread.

Holy #### did Lundqvist just make a ridiculous save. Guy came into the zone and fired a clear slapshot center just above where the face-off circle line would be, and he gloved it. Had to be going 80mph, amazing.

Big win. Contribution up and down the lineup. Handling this tough stretch wonderfully. Bryz has been great and is now 5-0-3. Awesome.

Lightning did a good job running Bishop through the meat grinder. Still won't give him a day off, and now he's just getting pounded. Shame.

Blues played like a bunch of thugs....#### you Hitchcock!!
To be fair, I didn't see the game but this doesn't surprise me. I did see the highlight of Backes being a "tough guy" and throwing down with MacKinnon. Big stones on that guy.

It will be interesting to see who they run in today's game. Going to guess Jackman will go after one of the Rockford call ups and Sobotka will slew foot somebody. Of course Backes will have his cheapshots in there....so all in all a normal game I guess.

I want to see the Wings play against every Original 6 team at their home arenas, get a Home jersey for each and frame them up with my ticket stub.

You headshot one of our best players. Of course the refs let it go which meant matters needed to be taken into ones own hands, unfortunately. Hitchcock kept Reaves off the ice late in the game.
The hit wasn't bad and the guys own stick is what cut him
Something tells me you're not looking with an unbiased eye.

I made the observation in the first period before all this went down that I thought Roy was wanting to send a message that you guys won't be pushed around come playoff time. You guys took a couple stupid penalties finishing late checks. I don't mind the strategy, in fact, I thought it was a smart move. But well, you wanna play heavy then you're gonna get a heavy answer. A head shot to Shattenkirk opened the flood gates. I see Roy ran his mouth afterwards. Should be a good rivalry for years.

Patrick Roy or Derek Roy? I think we need first names here.
Derek is about as irrelevant as you can get at this point. Assume the Avs coach unless otherwise noted ;)
I don't know what happened to Derek Roy. Used to be a pretty good player. Was reasonably close to a PPG player (.91 over 350 games) over 5 straight seasons with the Sabres (2006-2011). Since then, he's posted .58 PPG (in 235 games) with BUF, DAL, VAN, STL. Obviously not getting top line minutes in any of those spots and I'm pretty sure he was playing hurt for some, but he has skills.

Blues seem to rely way too much on that top line lately. I guess the Tarasenko injury hurt and they didn't really replace Stewart's offense in the top-6 by bringing in a guy like Ott. Guys like Berglund and Roy should be doing more.

Berglund had a spark in him after the Olympics at least. Roy was DOA pretty much. Roy was getting top 6 minutes early on, but there have been recent games where he's been a healthy scratch.
