***Official 2013/2014 NHL Regular Season Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Patrick Roy or Derek Roy? I think we need first names here.
Derek is about as irrelevant as you can get at this point. Assume the Avs coach unless otherwise noted ;)
I don't know what happened to Derek Roy. Used to be a pretty good player. Was reasonably close to a PPG player (.91 over 350 games) over 5 straight seasons with the Sabres (2006-2011). Since then, he's posted .58 PPG (in 235 games) with BUF, DAL, VAN, STL. Obviously not getting top line minutes in any of those spots and I'm pretty sure he was playing hurt for some, but he has skills.

Blues seem to rely way too much on that top line lately. I guess the Tarasenko injury hurt and they didn't really replace Stewart's offense in the top-6 by bringing in a guy like Ott. Guys like Berglund and Roy should be doing more.
Not only is he not getting top line minutes, but he's earned less minutes in his already reduced role. We are starving for someone to step up at Center and Roy has earned healthy scratches. He's done. The Blues are definitely relying on the top line, and really the top line isn't effective unless it's Backes, Oshie and Steen... and with Steen out now the top line is pretty pathetic as well. I really hope the Blues aren't lying when they say Steen is only going to miss a couple games, but I'm skeptical.

I thought Christo gave up on these guys weeks ago
Hawks64-like intelligence, this guy.
Where does ditka311 rank on the scale?
He's pretty horrible when it comes to hockey talk.....

Truth is, I love the Hawks and Blues rivalry. It gets really chippy and the games are always intense. I have such a disdain for the Blues that it makes it hard for me to be objective. Well, usually. I just like to talk smack about it too, especially with the playoffs coming up.

I was actually at the Scottrade Center a month and a half ago for a Blues and Devils game. I had conversations with a lot of Blues fans and its very hard to dislike them. I might disagree, but I don't dislike the fans at all.

That said.......can't believe the Blues can't beat the Hawks' "B" team. Good work, hacks....

;)

Perry deflecto again...

Anderson was just about to steal #1 and he got hurt. Gibson has a chance. Hiller just blows right now.

Montreal is #1 on my list of stadiums/arenas I most want to watch a game at.

Oh and those female Canadian Olympic athletes were ridiculously hot. Wow.
I want to see the Wings play against every Original 6 team at their home arenas, get a Home jersey for each and frame them up with my ticket stub.
Any time you want to come to see the Rangers-Wings, let me know

I love the thought of a Hawks jersey hanging in your house. You going 81, 82, 7, or 24?

Lol you're being practical. I was going with players who played for both franchises (Hossa, Kopecky, Chelios, and Probert).

Love the Blackhawks jerseys, I'd probably go with Toews.

Coyle continues his hot streak. Bryz with back to back shutouts, unbeaten in regulation. Wild protecting him well but he's been solid when he needs to. Peg fans chanting "Ilya" as he eggs them on.

Yeah baby, bring on the Ducks!

Why does Brian Engblom continually call the Flyers coach Craig BerooBAY?
Because I'm reading this a day late and I was talking to someone today who read this thread I will answer that:

It's because that's his name or at least it was when he played. How is it pronounced now?

Even in his playing days, I had always heard it pronounced with a long e for the last vowel. Engblom is the only broadcaster I've heard call him that. And he strangely puts the emphasis on the last syllable like Bombay.

I wouldn't burn a Blackhawks jersey in my backyard in fear that I might permanently pollute the soil.

Is this it for Torts? Will he ever get another job after this Vancouver fiasco?
Not sure it's his fault. Team has aging stars and no depth. Gillis should have been fired years ago.
True but that was a bad match from the get-go. His yelling act wasn't going to work with those vets used to a more laid-back approach.

Given the number of jobs Mike Keenan got and burned thru, I think Torts gets one more chance but with a smaller market franchise and younger squad.

Actually it's Berub - eh.

Gillis totally mishandled the Goalie situation in Vancouver. He went from a Schneider and Luongo tandem to Eddie Lack/? tandem.Gillis tried to trade Luongo and couldn't, so he traded Schneider for less than market value. Then he gets ripped off on the subsequent Luongo trade.

I'm not a Torts fan, but he had no chance with that roster.

Luongo deal was pretty good all things considered imo. It's just good to get out of that contract, at least 85% of it anyway, and I think it's fair to say the market for a 35 year old goalie with that contract was next to nonexistent. The Schneider deal is where Gillis really screwed the pooch, not that he hasn't ####ed up before and after that, but that was his magnum opus of a ####up imo. Really hope Aquilini gives Gillis the can, but I unfortunately think Aquilini will give him another year.

that would be really great if STL tanked these last 4 and the Wild drew Colorado. just don't edge COL out and let the Ducks pass you... :X

What's up with that, eh?

Caught this little blurb on the Blues vs Caps game tonight

Jaroslav Halak told the Capitals' coaches that he didn't feel comfortable playing against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Please put the Caps out of their misery tonight,Blues!

This season can't end soon enough.

What? Ridiculous.
Confirmed by a Caps beat reporter

Katie Carrera ‏@kcarrera

Oates said Halak told coaches he wasn’t completely comfortable facing Blues for the first time since the trade, so they’re going with Holtby
Unreal.

Bomb supposedly to drop on the Couv:

Mackenzie: One scenario, as yet UNCONFIRMED, is GM Mike Gillis would be fired, Linden would hire new GM and new GM would sort out future of Tortorella.
