It also appears, early on, that the West is much better than the East this year. The East has one team that is currently 7 points or more over .500; the West has six.

Great goal by Landeskog - Ovie came over to hip check him at the boards and Ovie whiffed as Landeskog blew by him and came in and put it past Holtby.

Avs up 4-1

disaster.

Dater said it was Theisman-esque. Not watching but hope it's not career-threatening or anything that bad.

Is theisman-esque still a thing in 2014? Seems like a lot of medical improvements have taken place in 30 years.

Still super major bummer. This never happens to your ####ing useless 0-8 football team. Nope, has to happen to the first place hockey team.

That #%^*ing blows. Stamkos is pretty easily my favorite non-Wild player to watch. Hope it's a full recovery. In an age where all the great scorers of the 80's seem like forever ago, Stamkos reminds of the great centers from back then. :(

Time bomb by rancid overheard in Montreal tonight.

So TB scores a goal but the ref waves it off. It bounced off the camera and back out so quickly that it looked like it hit crossbar. They go back and review it, see it's a goal, but the ref(or is it Toronto?) decides that it was player interference with Price and it's no goal even tho the puck went in. Never seen a call like that.

If Gionta got on Marty St. Louis shoulders would they be taller than Chara?

Awful call. Couldn't believe it.

California alone is better than the East.
And yet 2 of Sabres 3 wins over CA teams! If only Miller was this good 2-3 yrs ago. Numbers don't show it for Miller, but without his play Sabres should be losing by 5 per night.

he's playing great. no goalie in the world stops either goal he gave up tonight.

I wouldn't mind seeing him stick around past this year, but it doesn't make much sense for him to keep playing this well on a terrible team.

btw, Matt Moulson has 8 points in 7 games with the Sabres (already had his fourth 2-point game with them tonight). Also looks great in the shootout. Just missed what should have been an easy goal in the third that could have put the game away.

What a horrible loss for the Wings. Completely dominated the game out-shooting the Jets almost 2-1, and they lose in a shootout. 10 consecutive home shootout losses, Howard is just terrible in these things.

Datsyuk does tie Nick Lidstrom on all-time scoring list though.

Great game. Exciting OT. Go Bolts. Bishop is something else (so is Price).

Quite impressed with Moulson. Most times it seems Sabes bring in a scorer & then they forget how to score. Moulson looked like he was shooting in practice on that shootout. Calm & casual.

Briere goal was just as much interference as that one and they allowed it

Lots of East beating West tonight. They talked about this on hockey central today. The West has been killing the East in head to head matches but it's been mostly Eastern conference teams heading out west. Now tonight, Buffalo beats LA, Isles beat Preds, Carolina beats Colorado and Florida beats Anaheim, all playing at the East teams' home.

The National Hockey League is looking at possibly amending the current overtime format and plans are for the issue to be taken up during the general managers meeting in March. The current overtime format has 4-on-4 throughout the period, but there have been discussions for switching it to 3-on-3 for a portion of the overtime. The teams now play a five-minute period with the team scoring first being declared the winner. The length of overtime could be extended too, thus avoiding there being so many shootouts.

“We talked in there and we’re going to talk again in March,” Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “There seems to be some interest in maybe expanding overtime another couple of minutes. Whether it remains 4-on-4 or goes from 4-on-4 to 3-on-3, certainly seems to gaining some traction and we’re going to have a long conversation about it in March.”

Blues and Avs lost, it's a miracle!
Phoenix is the Western power no one talks about.
Okay
One of the ESPN.com guys picked Phoenix as his Cup winner before the season. I thought it seemed a little strange at the time, but the 'Yotes are unbeaten in the desert (imagine that!) and sneaky good.
my post was in reference to this...

I hate the Central, no one ever ####### loses.
had nothing to do with the Yotes. thanks for the updates though.

Would prefer they keep it 4 on 4 but totally on board with this either.

Now all they have to do is make every game worth 3 points (3 for reg. win, 2 for OT win, 1 for OT loss) and they might have something.

I can't understand how this hasn't happened yet.
