Blues and Avs lost, it's a miracle!
Phoenix is the Western power no one talks about.
Okay
One of the ESPN.com guys picked Phoenix as his Cup winner before the season. I thought it seemed a little strange at the time, but the 'Yotes are unbeaten in the desert (imagine that!) and sneaky good.
my post was in reference to this...
I hate the Central, no one ever ####### loses.
had nothing to do with the Yotes. thanks for the updates though.
I was just trying to find an excuse. To be more specific on why the Blues lost, Mike Smith basically stood on his head.

The National Hockey League is looking at possibly amending the current overtime format and plans are for the issue to be taken up during the general managers meeting in March. The current overtime format has 4-on-4 throughout the period, but there have been discussions for switching it to 3-on-3 for a portion of the overtime. The teams now play a five-minute period with the team scoring first being declared the winner. The length of overtime could be extended too, thus avoiding there being so many shootouts.

“We talked in there and we’re going to talk again in March,” Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “There seems to be some interest in maybe expanding overtime another couple of minutes. Whether it remains 4-on-4 or goes from 4-on-4 to 3-on-3, certainly seems to gaining some traction and we’re going to have a long conversation about it in March.”
Would prefer they keep it 4 on 4 but totally on board with this either.

Now all they have to do is make every game worth 3 points (3 for reg. win, 2 for OT win, 1 for OT loss) and they might have something.
I can't understand how this hasn't happened yet.
They want the parity, or perception of it.

I would blame Elliott

Chicago extends Shaw 2 yrs @ $2MM per.
Saw this yesterday and it got me to thinking how nice it is to see Blackhawks draft picks keep getting contract extensions. Looking at a typical line-up everyone in red was drafted by Chicago or signed undrafted.

Saad/Toews/Kane

Sharp/Handzus/Hossa

Bickell/Kruger/Shaw

Bollig/Pirri/Smith

Keith/Seabrook

Oduya/Hjalmarsson

Leddy/Rozsival

Crawford/Khabibulin

Obviously Kane & Toews were no-brainers, but I've watched the Bears screw up no-brainers for years.

what has LaFontaine done in that capacity to instill confidence? this seems like a pretty risky move.

Nolan only given an interim tag.

Regarding OT, I say play one 20-minute OT at 4 on 4, and if no one scores, it is a tie. I like the idea of 3 for a regulation win, 2 for an OT win, and 1 for an OT loss (or tie, using my idea).

20min OT seems excessive. Even 10min seems kind of long, though more palatable. I really hope they don't go to 3vs3 though, it's really no better than a shootout as far as bastardizing the game goes.

I still believe the Sabres were on an historical pace but all bets are off with Ted Nolan. I love me some Nolan. No man can do so much with so little.
It's amazing how little talent the 4 teams Nolan has coached in the NHL have had. These are their top scorers:

95-96 Sabres - Lafontaine, Burridge, Plante, Galley, Dawe, May

96-97 Sabres - Plante, Holzinger, Audette, Peca, Dawe, Dixon Ward

06-07 Isles - Blake, Satan, Sillinger, Viktor Kozlov, Yashin, Poti

07-08 Isles - Comrie, Guerin, Satan, Trent Hunter, Vasicek, Fedotenko

lol

How can a team with Hall, Yakupov, Eberle, Gagner, Hemsky, Perron, Nugent-Hopkins, etc... have no ability to finish? They could be up 2 or 3-0 already if they could put pucks in half open nets.

Painful pens loss to a horrible flyer team. Crosby the only one with a pulse tonight. All that time off for neal, it is showing. He couldnt shoot one into the ocean tonight.

Jason Dawe easily cracks my top 5 favourite Peterborough Petes in my lifetime, along with Cameron Mann, Eric Staal, Zach Bogosian and Mike Ricci (Pronger's the best I've seen but has always been a bit of a ####).

I miss John Gurtler saying "that was Dawesome!" after his goals.

The Flyers aren't really horrible though. Every game except one this year was tied or w/in 1 goal entering the 3rd period. They just had a terrible time scoring and seem to be breaking out of that slump now that they got that former Penguin off the team.

One thing I've noticed the last few games is Flyers have had a lot fewer boneheaded offsides/icings. Don't know if it's a mental thing or they're just breaking out of the defensive zone better.

Well if a team is only sucking for 1 full period each game, they mustn't be that horrible..,

Did Malkin score tonight?

NOPE

11 games now? Couturier taking up his usual spot inside Baby Huey's head. Mental midget.
Looked like Berube switched things up in the third and had Couturier shadowing Crosby.
He did. But outcoaching Disco Dan isn't a great accomplishment, Laviolette used to do it regurlarly.
Ya disco refuses to pay attention to line match ups. Always let's the other coach dictate which players are going against Sid and Geno.

Also who needs S. Stamkos.

Blues leading 5-1 over Colorado after 2 and also leading 3-0 in fights. Steen with league leading 15th goal.

Yes, Leafs fans, that's Alexander Steen. You know, that guy who would never pan out?
