Heading down the STL to watch the Hawks kick some ###(and to drink like a fish)
Have you been there before? Blues fans usually ok with Hawks fans there?
I've been down to STL for Cubs games many times, we've never had an issue.

As a whole the people of STL are a pretty laid back group...........at least in my experience.

Went to see the Hawks play in DET last year........people couldn't have been nicer. Not what I was expecting.

I saw Bob Costas' interview with Bobby Orr from Costas Tonight last night.

He is definitely a classy guy. I couldn't believe how freaky his knee looked when he showed it to Costas. He estimates he has undergone about 20 knee surgeries. He also said he was pretty much bankrupt when he retired because Alan Eagleson stole alot of his money. He owned his part in it by saying he didn't pay attention to his money and just played the game. Now as a player agent, he warns all his clients to watch their money and ask lots of questions of those who handle their money.

I didn't realize there's a statue of his 1970 Stanley Cup winning goal outside the rink in Boston. I don't remember it being outside the Boston Garden when I was there in 1998.
The statue is relatively new. I think it was unveiled in 2010, on the 40th anniversary of the goal.

Which winger is coming to PGH at the trade deadline?

Which team needs defensive help?
The Oilers obviously need defensive help, but not sure if Pittsburgh would part with a top pairing DMan for the wingers the Oilers would part with. I'm hearing more buzz that McTavish will try to strike a deal for Shea Weber. Poile's asking price has to be huge. I wonder if Yakupov or Gagner plus a 2014 1st and 2015 1st would get a deal done?

I don't think that's enough for Weber.

There has been talk about the Oilers including a future NHL Dman like Klefbom in a package to get an immediate top pairing D that can play huge minutes. That plus Gagner or Yakupov plus the draft picks might still not be enough.

Top pair D men locked into an 8M contract until 2020 are worth more than anyone could offer IMO. Nashville needs to keep him as the cornerstone and find other ways to get talent - Seth Jones may be the better trading chip to get offense

It depends, if a team is doing well a long term, big $ contract for a franchise cornerstone seems like a wise investment. If a team isn't doing well, the same contract can be seen as an anchor that is holding the team back from improving their talent in other areas.

I'd love to hear some opinions/predictions from you guys on team USA and team Canada Olympic rosters. Locks, snubs, surprises. Really any opinions on it.

Taking a guess at team Canada forwards:

Kunitz-Sid-Stamkos(if healthy)

Tavares-Getzlaf-Perry

Sharp-Teows-Giroux

Seguin-Bergeron-Duchene

Staal, Couture

Canada has so many players on the bubble. Marty st Louis, Couture, Eberle, Hall, Seguin, Nash, Carter, Richards, Kunitz, Neal, Duchene.

Team USA gets announced after the winter classic on New Year's Day. Canada is announced January 6th or 7th.

I'm not a fan of the 'selecting players because of chemistry' idea at all, when you're talking about the best players in the world it really shouldn't be that hard to develop chemistry pretty quick, especially when you're talking about someone like Sidney Crosby. For Canada last time round pretty well every single chemistry selection failed miserably: the entire SJ line, the Seabrook selection to play with Kieth, and the Bergeron selection to play on the top line with Crosby. So for that reason I'm not a fan of Kunitz playing on the top line at all, or even making the team for that matter.

A few things from 24/7 Winter Classic

Toronto is an unlikable franchise, always have been, always will be. Dion Phaneuf is a tool bag, underachieving and is even less likable than Sidney Crosby as a person. Toronto was always the team I hated second most growing up, they'll likely pass the Blackhawks soon enough. I really hope Nazim Kadri isn't a Hezbollah sympathizer.

Red Wings are on the rise, not on the decline. Lots of young talent and they are learning on the fly with a great vet core. Not sure why the Ducks fired Mike Babcock, he is just terrific and I don't think I've ever had a coach of any of my teams I liked more than Babcock. He understands how to lead, coach X's and O's, and deal with adversity. Super organization from head to toe, and they definitely come off well on camera.

[icon] said he's gonna cut and paste some stats in here and take Imp down. My money's on Imp, but you never know when bandwagon cut and paste Bruins fans get into the mix, might get interesting.

You like Babcock more than Scotty Bowman? I mean Mike is probably the best in the league but Scotty is the best of all time.

Dreger: Aside from a couple of details, Phaneuf and the Leafs are very close on a 7 year, $7 mil per contract extension. Term was key. #tsn

We know they need him but I would be surprised if the Oil took on his contract for the same reasons Nashville might want to trade him.

Czech's playing Canada tough so far today.Up 2-1 going into the 3rd.(edit tied at 2 now)

U.S.A. looking good early as well.

Strickland: #stlblues officially rule Alex Steen out indefinitely with a concussion

11:43am - 28 Dec 13
That sucks. Hate to see that happen to anyone.
Word is it was from a series of hits, but main damage was done by an elbow by Zack Smith of Ottawa.Sucks. He's been the straw that has stirred the Blues' drink this year.
Did he miss time two years ago with a concussion or was that a shoulder/collarbone? I can't remember.

He missed a little under a half a season in 2011-2012 with a concussion. From what I'm reading, this concussion isn't near as serious.

So he's not Eric Lindros. Yet. :scared:

Was not impressed with Patterson for Canada in nets but the rest of the team is pretty solid.

Drouin and Reinhart were very impressive.
