Fair Tax!
Heading out to the Wells Fargo. My kid is so spoiled its scary.
I'm guessing OnB stands for Orange and Black. Not sure what OnB stands for, but yeah, I've been a Flyers fan since about the '87 season. Somewhere around that era. Poulin, Sutter, Kerr, Sinasalo, Dave Brown, Tocchett, Berube, Eklund and Lindburgh. Loved those guys. When I moved to Texas, it became hard to really follow the NHL, so my knowledge of the players faded. I still love the Flyers and watch them as much as I can. But I still don't know all of the players. It's kind of sad. People ask if I follow hockey and I tell them I love it, but then they start talking about other teams and I'm like a deer in headlights. I just want them to make the playoffs this year. Hockey is definitely the sport where all it takes is one team to get hot and anything can happen.Didn't know you were a fan of the OnB Sheik.OK. That makes sense. I'm happy with our team going forward. Not thrilled. But I have high hopes for them. Especially when you think about how the season started. To make room for Macdonald that they acquired yesterday and they weren't going to re-sign him this offseason.I, sadly, have not been following hockey this year like I have in the past. But I still love it.
That said, can someone explain to me why the Flyers would trade Meszaros to the Bruins for a 3rd round pick?
Was this a cap space thing?![]()
Yea my hopes are tempered, their D isn't too good. Unless Mason stands on his head I can't see them doing much damage in the playoffs if they get in. Nice turnaround from the start for sure, they're just too inconsistent. Continually signing guys like Andrew Macdonald to 5m/yr contracts is what got them in trouble with the D to begin with, but they just keep towing that same old line. We have the most expensive and underperforming D in the league.
why would they? Why hasn't Buffalo moved Ehrhoff?
that could be a huge pick. one of the best draft classes in awhile. that 1st rounder will be pretty valuable.Talk was they weren't keeping Moulson either so, Bottom line they lost a 1st round pick next year...... meh...
good thing Russia got that gold. oh, right.Detroit shutting Datsyuk down for 3 weeks, but no surgery needed. Helm also shut down for a few days.
What bad timing with Datsyuk and Zetty out for the big stretch run.
23 looks in jeopardy
yeah, the 1st round flexibility looked alright from the front end but with then the bottom fell out and their outlook next year it looks like a tough decision where they lose a valuable asset either way.that could be a huge pick. one of the best draft classes in awhile. that 1st rounder will be pretty valuable.Talk was they weren't keeping Moulson either so, Bottom line they lost a 1st round pick next year...... meh...
I was disappointed in the return for Moulson but given what the Isles got for Vanek, it seems like it was wha the market was willing to pay.
Looks like Regier was smart to ship out Vanek when he did. Looks like the return will be 2015 1st, 2015 2nd, 2014 2nd, 2016 2nd, and Torrey Mitchell.
I read 2014 2nd and 2016 2ndreally happy with the Moulson rental. pick going to Buffalo hasn't been announced but I'm guessing a 2nd or 3rd which is just fine. expiring contract too, plenty of options left in free agency and didn't give up much to get him. plus the Ducks, Sharks, Kings, Hawks, Avs, and Blues (yes I'm including Miller) didn't improve significantly at the deadline. Moulson, Parise, Nino, Coyle, Heatley...great in front of the net. bring on the gritty garbage goals.
only disappointing part is how cheap Vanek could have been had instead if they could have made the cap work (NYI taking some would have been unlikely without more return).
surprised it took two. Wild had two in '14 from the Setoguchi trade anyway and no '15 so that works.I read 2014 2nd and 2016 2ndreally happy with the Moulson rental. pick going to Buffalo hasn't been announced but I'm guessing a 2nd or 3rd which is just fine. expiring contract too, plenty of options left in free agency and didn't give up much to get him. plus the Ducks, Sharks, Kings, Hawks, Avs, and Blues (yes I'm including Miller) didn't improve significantly at the deadline. was really impressed with Moulson during his time in Buffalo. Everyone assumed Tavares was the reason for his production in NYI but he is legit. Should be a nice pickup for the Wild.
forgot about Gaborik. that's a key upgrade for LA.really happy with the Moulson rental. pick going to Buffalo hasn't been announced but I'm guessing a 2nd or 3rd which is just fine. expiring contract too, plenty of options left in free agency and didn't give up much to get him. plus the Ducks, Sharks, Kings, Hawks, Avs, and Blues (yes I'm including Miller) didn't improve significantly at the deadline. I really enjoyed Jaroslav Halak's time with the Sabres. So many memories.
why wouldn't teams make offers? no penalty in that. Wild can't offer what some teams can anyway so that's the main fear for why he wouldn't come.So based on all that has been said and done by Vanek - has he painted himself into a corner on his next contract and will the Wild just lowball him know that no one is going to touch him?
I think the assumption is that he wants to go to Minnesota since he reportedly turned down huge contract offers from the Sabres and Islanders.why wouldn't teams make offers? no penalty in that. Jarnkrok is a GREAT hockey name.Matt Larkin @THNMattLarkin 7m
Underrated: Preds getting Calle Jarnkrok in Legwand deal. He was Detroit's No. 3 prospect and 41st overall in Future Watch.

GMs not throwing offers at a UFA who is one of the best scorers In the game because he might go somewhere else is preposterousI think the assumption is that he wants to go to Minnesota since he reportedly turned down huge contract offers from the Sabres and Islanders.I'm sure he'll have suitors in the summer, but I'm assuming he winds up in Minnesota at this point. Maybe the offers for him at the deadline were limited if teams all basically knew he was just going to be a rental.why wouldn't teams make offers? no penalty in that. you don't think the return for Vanek was surprisingly low?GMs not throwing offers at a UFA who is one of the best scorers I'm the game because he might go somewhere else is preposterous
Islanders situation wasn't that bad really - playing with Tavares and other young guys. They were making a bit of noise in the standings and they are going to move to Brooklyn apparently. It's a pretty nice situation to be in as a star in the NY area. And he turns flatly turns down a pretty decent offer and doesn't seem to want to be involved in any give and take negotiations on it. If I'm a GM other than Minnesota's - why would I try when it is seems really clear he wants to head back there so should I even bother? 50M for 7 isn't bad to start and he may have been able to move it up 5M more - is he worth Kessel money? Is that what he was wanting?Aaron Rudnicki said:you don't think the return for Vanek was surprisingly low?Bill Brasky said:GMs not throwing offers at a UFA who is one of the best scorers I'm the game because he might go somewhere else is preposterous
I'm not saying they won't give him offers in the summer. I'm saying the demand at the deadline seemed tepid at best, and that's possibly because teams knew he was very unlikely to sign an extension.
In response to your question, if a GM offers him $50MM for 7 years and he takes it, that means he doesn't want to go to Minnesota as much as we're assuming, no? Wherever he signs, that's where he'll play so why be afraid to recruit him and sign him somewhere if you think he can be the guy that puts you over the top in a Cup run?Islanders situation wasn't that bad really - playing with Tavares and other young guys. http://beta.thescore.com/nhl/news/446144Islanders F Thomas Vanek determined to test unrestricted free-agencyByThomas Dranceon Mar 5 2014, 9:19 AM
On Monday, New York Islanders forward Thomas Vanek discussed the seeming inevitability of his being traded for a second time this season. Vanek also touched on his decision to turn down a lucrative extension offer from the New York Islanders earlier this season, and was surprisingly frank and introspective about his situation as it stands.
"It just came to a point where I felt, 'OK, I want to test the free agent market, most likely,'" Vanek told NHL.com's Brian Compton. "But that doesn't mean the Islanders wouldn't be one of my teams at that time."
Vanek was asked by Compton if he might have agreed to a contract extension with the Islanders were they in a playoff position. "I don't know," Vanek said, "It's tough to predict this and that, but I'm sure if we would have [been] in the top echelon, that maybe makes a difference. For me to stand here and [say] that would make a big difference, I don't know. I can tell you winning does make a big difference."
Continued the Islanders sniper: "I have a wife, I have three boys, [so] obviously off the ice everything needs to be well, which it was great here. But I'm 30 years old and I still feel I have seven, eight good years left in me. I want to set myself up and just make sure I'm on a team where I can make the playoffs and have a chance. Can you predict which team is going to be good? No, but you can probably have a good idea for who's going in the right direction."
Isn't that a chicken or egg point. Vanek and Tavares makes them move in the right direction - a offseason move or two and they might just get back in business and the East seems pretty open. I just think it reflects on him somewhat to turn these offers down - he may be signing for less than 7@7.5 or so in the end to fit into a "winner".I haven't followed him that closely since he left Buffalo but there seems to be good info in here:Islanders situation wasn't that bad really - playing with Tavares and other young guys. The Isles are a mess from the top down (IMO) and don't really seem to be building/growing into the team many expected them to. I can certainly see why he'd be reluctant to sign on there.
Obviously the Sabres are a mess too. He might just be looking for some stability and a contending team where his family can be happy, and the Wild likely fits all his needs.
but the team has sunk in the standings with them in place. I don't really see much reason for optimism apart from the presence of Tavares and upcoming move to Brooklyn.Isn't that a chicken or egg point. Surprised that Anahiem couldn't find a fit to match that package after they cleared Penner out. I wonder if they have a different read from the agent on what he wants to do?
Of course it was low. It was incredibly low. I'm not talking about that.He said his next contract, which will come when he goes UFA this summer. If he wants to get his market worth mega deal, he'll have that offer on the table from someone. Wild were never going to be able to break the bank, will be 7-8MMAaron Rudnicki said:you don't think the return for Vanek was surprisingly low?I'm not saying they won't give him offers in the summer. EDIT: I agree with you that this won't have an impact during the summer as teams will be able to throw offers at him with nothing to lose if he turns them down.
Surprised they couldn't beat the Montreal offer for Vanek. Maybe they went hard after Kesler but couldn't meet the asking price. How bad did Anaheim fail today? Seems they were all set up to make a prominent acquisition and came away with nothing.
Enroth isn't proven as a #1 so I assume the job is open to competition. The price on Neuvirth wasn't high at all and both guys are under contract for another season. I assume they will split starts and share the job unless one emerges.Thoughts on goalie situations in Buffalo and Washington?
Are the Sabers leaning to Neuvirth over Enroth?
What about the Caps? Halak or Holtby?
Why eaves is JAG has the prospect been announced yet?Kinda mad that hank and Pavell tried to play in the Olympics clearly hurt. And now they are shut down.Hat, hate, hate the Legwand deal.
Brawl in Philly. Solid hockey all hands on deck fight.
Disappointed that Wilson got tossed. I guess Erskine will have to get smacked around again. I'm glad you're getting to see another snot kicking tonight. Been announced right in this thread even.JARNKROK!Why eaves is JAG has the prospect been announced yet?.Hat, hate, hate the Legwand deal.
I think trading away a top prospect for another older player who's best days are behind him is a bad idea. Jamkrok had a slow start in the AHL but he was heating up. He'll end up a top 6 forward imo, but I accept that he is still at least 2 years from the NHL. Legwand will be a rental, I don't see the Wings re-signing him, and I don't think he'll have the offensive impact the Wings need. I think this is another instance of Holland's over reliance on old established players. Why?Hat, hate, hate the Legwand deal.
