Well he probably cost the team a playoff berth, or the chance at advancing a round or two. Gonna be a while before people forget.
I'll presume the premise that the Lightning are doomed to be out of the playoffs despite being 4 points up on 9th place with 19 games to go, so I can get this straight,

A decade+ of phenomenal service (including a Stanley Cup championship and being the catalyst that turned the floundering franchise into a relevant one) < One missed playoff!!! ???

Sounds just a tad harsh.

All true. I don't necessarily agree with the general sentiment but it is the case here.

The local sports radio hack here (he's awful) was railing yesterday that there is ZERO CHANCE (what he kept yelling) that Marty will have his number retired here. He's a 1000% wrong on that, but that's the popular local opinion.

For sure. Blues, Avs and Hawks are probably three of the five best teams in the league, yet one of them is going out in the first round.

If that's the popular local opinion that's just sad, and idiotic of course. St. Louis is arguably the most deserving active player in the league to have his number retired by a franchise. I'd put him and Iginila 1/2.

Great game going on in Denver right now. Central division playoffs are gonna be rough.
Real good game - would have been nice if Statsny hadn't been hurt on first shift. Duchene did pick up the slack - real good game from him

Miller was really good along with the post behind him.

Klesla: ""With all due respect to the Sabres organization, I decided this week not to continue playing hockey this season. It has been a tough year for injury and moving several times to new teams. I will now take some time off..."
Yikes.

Edit: More from Klesla

....and get ready to continue my career in Europe. I would like to thank my fans and all the people that have helped me."....."I am grateful for the career I have had in the NHL and all the people that I have met along the way who have supported me and my family...

Did most of you guys play hockey in high school and/or college? I missed out.... really didn't appreciate the sport until my early 20s.

:kicksrock:
Started playing at age 4. I played a lot of sports growing up but nothing compared to hockey. It is definitely something every kid should try out at least once.
Yes. Played all my life until 22 in various circumstances. Good stuff. Loved hockey for the teammates more than anything. Good dudes. Great dudes.

Loved it.

played on the ponds growing up.... lakes froze back then  we didn't have any local leagues... started playing in "leagues" with friends. The from about 20 to 32. Every year 20 of us rented a rink once a week about 15 to 20 weeks.... my pop played "semipro"... hockey wasn't huge here. I would have loved to play in a league as a kid. Would have if we had it. We did play street hockey all the time and i played that since i was 4 but nothing super serious. .. :kicksrock:

Flyers are whacking at the puck in tight to Bernier and the referee in the neutral zone blows the play dead as the puck goes in, while the ref behind the net points for the goal. Wtf is that guy blowing the play dead for? Never in my life have I seen that happen.

Don't know who's happier that the Leafs have taken the lead back in the third. The homer HNIC guys or the refs who whistled the Charmin soft hook on Timonen,

What a horrible night for the Wings. CAps score 3 in the 3rd to win, Devils win, 3 point game in Toronto, and 3 point game in Tampa. :wall:

Refs were brutal, but Grossmann was worse. When are they going to put this dude in the pressbox and let Gus get some playing time?? Hell I'd take Gill over Grossmann at this point. He's ####### brutal. Not sure if I love they way they can comeback, or hate the fact that they have to. Either way that wont last long if they make it into the playoffs.

On board with Gus, but Gill? No thanks. At least Grossmann sometimes makes a good play.

The video of the games on NHL.com Gamecenter is 45-50 seconds behind the live stats page with the ticking clock.

Wish they could synch that up.

I prefer seeing SOG update in real time. HATE it when there's a glitch or delay. But I don't watch the games online.

Tell the Avs to be more accurate with their shots next time.

I really hope the Blues and Avs meet up in the playoffs somehow. That will be a real cracker of a series and it'll also serve to keep the Blues away from the state of California for at least one round.

I am still a little hazy on how exactly the playoffs work, but if the Blues win the division and then won in the first round, wouldn't they automatically play the Hawks/Avs winner in the second round (if they standings stayed as they are now)?

Yes. If the Blues finish second they would play the third place central team. If they win that series they would play the winner of Hawks/wildcard team. No re seeding.
