***Official 2013/2014 NHL Regular Season Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Rupp in the lineup in the first time in forever tonight. McCormick also still in. Blues beat the crap out of Minnesota a few weeks ago in St. Louis. Blues have been losing. I expect several fights.

Minnesota State Touney gets Gary Thorn but the Frozen Four gets Buccigross and Melrose. Makes sense.

:X
Gary Thorne should just be permanent play by play man for hockey on ESPN.

I don't hate Buccigross, but Melrose is awful.

Wild have started 5 goalies in their 5 games against the Blues this season. They're also the first team since 05-06 Oilers to have 4 goalies with 10+ wins and make the playoffs.

Really is a testament to the solid two way players up and down the lineup, much better puck possession team, and commitment to a sound structured game.

That was quite the finish in the Union-BC game. HellToupee must have been proud to see two of his MC guys score goals (Vecchione, Fitzgerald). I couldn't believe the people I saw tweeting tonight that couldn't understand why Union's last goal wasn't icing.

Gaudreau says he will decide between BC and the Flames in the next couple of days. Should be interesting.

Meanwhile, back in the NHL ...

Marchand scored his 50th point of the season for the B's. Amazingly, he had 0 on the power play. None of the 80-something players above him have fewer than 10.

Entertaining but strange game in Tampa. Lightning score in first 2 minutes and dominate play for first 36 minutes. Emery with a great job to keep it 1-0. Suddenly the Flyers flipped the switch and the last 4 minutes were down the end. Flyers finally got a PP goal past Lindbach to tie it after 2.

One of the stranger plays. Delayed call forever, head shot, Oshie laying on the ice, refs blow it dead just before the Blues score because Oshie is hurt.

5-3 tho and a major on the back end and they've already scored.

There have been some great Frozen Four games in recent years. Yale in OT last year in the semis, Duluth winning the title in OT in 2011, BU's incredible comeback against Miami in '09, Abdelkader scoring with about :20 left to beat BC.

BLAME ELLIOTT
The Blues aren't playing well, but neither is Ryan Miller. He has not been the difference maker he was touted to be. 4 goals allowed on 13 shots in a game they desperately needed to get them out of this slide? That is not good.

Lost in the shuffle tonight is the Devils going 0 for in a 4 round shootout for yet another loss. Truly remarkable.
Ovechkin goes -2 on a night when his team wins 5-2 and he only has 14 minutes on the ice.

AVALANCHE!!!!!!!!!

Clinch home ice vs Chicago and are tied in points for Central lead
They would not play Chicago right now.
Blues own head to head and I think that is 1st tiebreaker
1st tie breaker is Regulation + Overtime Wins. Avs have a big edge there.
Thanks AR - I always thought it was head to head first. Still going to be tough to hang on with SJ tomorrow on the back-to-back and then Ducks in Anahiem.

STL has DET and DALL....

Who would have thought a week ago the third to last game (COL ANA) of the season could decide #1/2 in the West.
