****Official 2014 Chicago Bears Thread **** (1 Viewer)

I like what we are doing with the DL right we are getting some really sold, decent priced hard working guys. What we don't have so far is a big pressure guy, maybe that can come from a unsigned vet who may have some left in him on a 2 year contract, someone who can come in on rushing downs.

Would still like to see Wooten and Tillman back, and I think we have a good chance for both. Tillman didn't sign on the spot at Tampa, so I think we are still in play for him. I haven't heard anything about Wooten, so not sure where we stand there, or maybe Young signing could mean they aren't planning to try and get Wooten back.

So if they re-sign Melton, safety in the first? If they don't, DT? Still not sure I'd grab a safety that early. I say let Melton walk and take DT. Save some cap

I think it's becoming clear that they're going safety in the first round
Or DT....I still think they go Donald or Jernigan, but I would not be surprised if they trade down to get their choice of either a DT or S from the 4 they like (Ha Ha Dix and Pryor + the 2 DTs?). I would not be surprised if they trade down and got a DE either (Ealy or the dude who said he was better than Clowney - forget his name right now)

Tell me about Young
Fast and athletic. Not a lot of sacks but anytime I watched the Lions he seemed disruptive.
On the radio they said he had the second most QB disruptions in the league, so while he's not getting all the way home, he seems to be able to get some decent pressure. Hopefully he can find a way to up his sack numbers on the bears, but I like the signing.

So I'm not sure how that ties to the first stat I saw, but on another station they said they were looking at the pro football focus rankings of total DE QB Hits/pressures/sacks, and Houston ranked 12 Young 15 in last years starts. So technically by those numbers we have the highest ranked starting pair of DE's.

Not trying to say we have the best line in the league or anything stupid like that, but sounds like we may have a pair of really solid professional football DE's.

CB may be our biggest D hole at this moment. They've signed a bunch of mediocre bodies at safety, but unless we get Tillman back, we still don't have a second starting CB. I don't think Frey or Hayden fit that role at this point.

We will not go with CB in the 1st round....we will definitely take a CB in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Emery made it clear multiple times that the draft has great CB depth and the UFA market is blah now. So, other than Tillman, I expect no more CBs to be signed.

As for #14, if we re-sign Melton and Tillman, I would not be shocked if the Bears go offense and pick up Mike Evans or Ebron. Imagine either of those two on this team on O.

Melton staying in Minny. Looks like it's serious. Not surprised. Need to look to Wootton next. That would give us 3 DEs.

Pumped we got the DE position locked up already. Can't be that on the first day. Looking like Collins, Ratliff and 1st rounder at dt. Maybe wootton in rotation as well. Not sure what the hell to do about the safeties but DL is what needed to be fixed the most and they went after it, just like OL last year. I'm digging it

You left out the best part... Clemmons favorite snack...

Bears potentially interested in Brandon Weeden. aka speculation from the Tribune.

Wooton will not be signed to play DT. He is not a DT. There is a reason our run D was horrible last year. Playing him there was one of the main ones since we had so many injuries at the DT position.

Did someone say he was going to play DT?

the way you said "maybe Wootton in rotation as well" right after talking about the dt's was a little confusing, I admit first time I read it I actually thought you meant to play him as a DT also.

But in general I agree, I'd like to see Wootton added to the DE rotation, I think that could make a pretty strong rotation. Maybe no Peppers in his prime sack machine in there, but a really sold rotation to stop the bleeding from last year.

I also just learned how to spell Wootton after ready your thread, I don't know how many times I've done that wrong. :bag:

Yes you did. "Maybe Wooton in the mix" while talking about DT rotation

Yeah, I see how that looked now. I jumped back and forth there. I meant in rotation at DE, where I think he is at his best.

Tillman back on a 1 year deal :pickle:

I wonder if Peanut saw the work the Bears are doing to fix the Defense and decided to come back.

Oh I'm pumped. Tillman may be my all-time favorite Bears, besides McMahon. Love him. 3.5mil is a pretty penny. Didn't think it would be near that.

Doubt that. He got more money
C'mon Flapgreen. Dance a little. This is one of those leaders we need in the locker room and on the field.

Pipe dream would be that he plays a little safety.
I wouldn't be surprised if part of this deal has a handshake saying they won't try and play him at safety. He's been pretty clear and consistent on his desire to not play there, and I almost positive he would have gone somewhere else or retired if he felt there was a chance of that happening.

I like some of the signings. Looks like we established a basis for our defensive ends and our corners to a degree, though I wonder if emery is going to shift tillman to safety.

In any case, it seems more and more likely the bears will be drafting a defensive tackle who can be the premier guy that melton was suppose to be and what tommie harris was at times. Then draft a safety in the 2nd round and a potential QB to groom under Cutler with the 3rd round.

Bear Down!

Melton is not completely gone yet. After his visit to Dallas, I'm sure his agent will let Chicago know what he has been offered and give them a chance to counter.

Peppers is a mercenary, a rental the Bears drove hard and returned to the dealership low on gas, not a true Bear, This is not as if Tillman or Urlacher came over, and it is not as if the Packers tampered to get him. I don't imagine folks here will have any real heartburn about this.
