I'm sure that's a FIFA standard. The arms folded and amazing-race style head turn is probably offensive to zero cultures.

More like Jones and Beckerman - CR7 will be all across the front imo, it will take some double-teaming, and a hard tackle or 2. 0% chance the US makes it out of the game with no yellows.

Given the game time, and number of outdoor viewing areas across the country, this could be the most watched US game.

I wonder if all of the people pouring money on the US know anything about any of these guys other than CR7?
It probably will be the most watched soccer game in US history, which will make it the most important for the future of soccer. Either the US loses and potentially common fan just sees the US as hapless losers in soccer or there is a win or tie and more people get excited about soccer.

They may have a formula that puts it slightly higher than 1 tv = 1 person, but not enough to account for the various places where 1000's of people will be viewing.Do all those people count as 'one' viewer in the Nielson ratings?

The highest was 24.3 million for the WC2010 Final on ABC. This game being on ESPN will obviously limit the size more than being on ABC would have.
I still expect a huge audience though but I don't know if it can reach those numbers with the English portion on ESPN. It could very well be the second most watched game of the entire tournament outside of the final.

1) # of TV households (rating)
2) # of viewers (viewership)
There is no hard formula for converting households to tv viewers. They track how many people watch each game (it is a variable that certain families have to enter in the box)
Sports in general gets the short end of the stick because it is the only real item that people gather to watch and Nielsen has never really figured that out too well but it is across all sports so soccer is not picked out.
That being said, the various huge outdoor viewing parties will be in the noise if this comes in the 15-20 million viewer range though.

Knowing how dirty some of the betting syndicates are, it wouldn't shock me. Heck maybe they know CR7 is really banged up and wknt be able to do anything or maybe they paid off the ref.

I guess it all depends on your viewpoint. If you expected the US to make the quarter finals, no that would not be great.
For those of us just happy to be alive by Game 3, I would argue 4 points from this group is more impressive than 5 points from the poor group in 2010.

20 million sounds pretty accurate.
It should break both the ESPN and Univision records that were set for the Ghana game.
We knew from the second the schedule came out that this was going to be one of the most watched games of the entire WC.

My guess...Bedoya tacks back better than Zusi. That gives Fab support against Cristiano. Cristiano and Nani will switch sides, but the majority of the time CR7 will be on the left.
