well it hurts us in GD which is the 1st tiebreaker, but if this result holds and Ghana wins 2-1 then we lose on the 2nd tiebreaker

So, main thing is no more goals for Ghana. If they get one, then US needs 1 (assuming Germany doesn't score 2 more).

Well it was a good run USA. This is the only sport I can think of that the US wouldn't be the favorite against the world. Not a bad showing overall for the US since this is our 4th sport behind Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Track.

Yea, which was his point, but it was short-sighted. As it was (Portugal up 1-0) we were 2-3 goals away from getting knocked out. Now we're just 1 goal away from getting knocked out.

I've got them both on.

The Portugal/Ghana game is end to end. Portugal still going for it even though they've got pretty much no chance to go through. They haven't just packed it in.

Technically though, you did say a goal by EITHER Germany or Ghana.

A goal by Ghana, all else being equal, knocks the US out.

A goal by Germany, all else being equal, does not knock the US out.

The Germany goal doesn't really matter since Ghana has the 2nd tiebreaker anyway. If Ghana goes up 2-1 then a 1-0 loss or a 2-0 loss both get us out. If we score a goal then a 1-1 draw or a 2-1 loss both get us in even if Ghana wins 2-1 (as that goal ties us in the 2nd tiebreaker, and we win the 3rd tiebreaker).

A 2nd Germany goal only matters if Ghana or the US end up scoring multiples.
