***Official 2014 World Cup Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Good day for international soccer.

US and Germany play a real match instead of laying down and taking a draw.

Suarez gets his punishment.

Imagine if those 2 things went the other way as some predicted
And this in a sport not known for the "right" things being done. Very refreshing for once.

Hard to be upset with anything. There aren't many "great losses" but 1-0 against that juggernaut is pretty good.

Can we petition Obama to fire Klinsmann?
I am feeling a quarter-final run imo

Brad. Davis.

I'm really glad that the US advanced, and I think they can get to the quarters in spite of him, but I don't think he brings much to the table himself.
Yedlin is getting more done in his tiny minutes than the other wing halfs are (not including Zusi) with a ton of minutes.

Now we gotta try and gin up some hate for Belgium - a country that's like the chameleon of Europe. If it ain't waffles you probably don't think about Belgium much.

Okay, so we'll play the winner of Group H, and Germany plays the 2nd place team from Group H. What if Germany and the US both win in the round of 16? Do we play again in the quarters?

I sent an email to the IT Director and told him my internet was running slow. And that I assumed it was because of everyone watching the game on their computers. I suggested he get the OK to turn the game on in the breakroom.

He agreed. Everyone in my office can thank me later, I guess.
Is there still any beer left over.
There was not. But I did guilt them into buying a bunch of pizzas for us.

Hoping Jozy can play. Jones, Beckerman, Bradley with Deuce and Jozy. Sounds good to me. Honestly, I think we've looked more dangerous the last two games without Jozy so maybe JK uses him as a sub if he needs a goal??

:hifive: Need Yedlin to get in earlier and press his speed and willingness.

I'm sure Yedlin could do the same for 80min instead of coming on fresh for 10min then, right?

After the Ghana game a buddy of mine said exactly: "We're in pretty good shape. Looking for a draw vs. Portugal and a small loss vs. Germany and we're through"

So was Germany playing a normal game? Or were they playing half throttle? Kind of looked like they weren't really trying too hard on some plays. But as a noob, that just may be me not understanding the game.

I thought they played hard. They straight up dominated us. Once they realized we really weren't going to get too risky and that we were essentially conceding 1st in the group, they went all out. Especially with Klose coming in and wanting to get the goal total lead.

I take it you're Mormon and don't like/drink beer.
LOL well actually I don't drink. But still it's not exactly like Belgium is one of those countries that gets up in everyone's face. Heck it's a country that's sort of an uneasy confederation that just hasn't ever gotten around to having a civil war with itself.

Brazil's most likely path to the title...

R16 - Chile

QF - Colombia

SF - Germany/France

F - Argentina

US's path

R16 - Belgium

QF - Argentina

SF - Netherlands

F - Brazil

No - we are on opposite sides of the bracket now
Gotcha, thanks!

I don't think because that'd just be a stupid set up.
That is what I thought, too, which why I asked. I admittedly do not pay much attention to soccer anymore, except during the World Cup.
