I sorta think these games have gotten too big to go into blackout mode. I'm going to have to watch the second half of the game on my phone while my kids have swim practice. I can guarantee lots of other folks there will do the same, it would be impossible for me not to know what happens.

Someone passed this along... pretty awesome way to get a feel for all the players on the USMNT before the belgium match.
Short 2-3 minute segments on each player...very well done.

2. Zusi
3. Bradley
4. Johnson

Not entirely comfortable that Zusi will be on the field at the end of extra time, so I would probably go with Beckerman

If you're not chugging at least 3 Manhattans, you hate America.
It will be interesting to see the subs today - more as to who to take off, than who comes on.
Obviously it depends on game situation. But I can't imagine Dempsey, Bradley, Jones, or Howard come off unless dead. Besler, Gonzalez/Cameron, Johnson won't come off unless missing a leg. Also don't see Beasley leaving absent injury.
That leaves Beckerman, Zusi, Bedoya (assuming they start as wide Mids)
Yedlin - seems likely to come in winning or losing
Green - I think if we are chasing a goal, he comes in around 70 minutes
Altidore - If he does not start, maybe an extra-time sub, where a re-injury hurts a little less.
Mix - only comes in for a Bradley or Beckerman injury
Bacon - comes in for a Dempsey injury
Wondo - hard to see how he gets in the game
Davis - can't see him in the game
Gonzalez/Cameron - who ever does not start, could come in for a Mid, if we are protecting a lead late/
Brooks - unfortunately only a Besler injury - maybe a late sub if we think we can get some set-pieces.

Working on separate projects with colleagues in the UK and Spain this morning, and its very hard biting my tongue and resisting just a wee bit of salt in the wounds. I am taking every opportunity to note that I'll not be available this afternoon, knowing they don't care about this afternoon as that is night time for them.

It seriously is an incredible opportunity. Spain, Portugal, Italy and England are out. Of the ten teams remaining this morning, I would say about 7 of them are better than the USMNT on paper. I don't count Belgium as one of those teams. They've won three games so you can't discount them but that was a pretty soft group they were in.
We can win today.

Just something I thought I'd point out.
The Official Soccer thread is the 3rd most replied to thread in the entire FFA (behind only GMTAN and the Wagering Thread). It's been around since 2007 and has 1485 pages.
This 2014 World Cup thread has only been here since Nov 2013 and is already the 12th most replied to thread in the history of the FFA with 312 pages already!! That's about 1/4th the size of the entire soccer thread. Think about that. In fact, the only other "new" threads that are above it are the Trayvon thread and the college football thread, and both are from 2012 and are likely to be passed. Also, 250+ of those pages have taken place over only the last month.
And we only just finished the group stage with still LOTS of World Cup to go. Now, things may certainly slow down if the US exits, but WOW!! Not only that, but I'd also say that the amount of actual trolling in this thread has been quite low with lots of actual content and serious posts.

we can root for the swiss since we'll beat brazil in the finals. the argentine game would just be a montage in the movie so not worth rooting for them.Should we root for the Swiss so we have an easier quarterfinal game, or for the Argentines so that they'll make a movie about the team after we beat them?
