Another board is saying the SEC is also going after UNC and Duke.

I've heard a lot of rumors over the last 18 - 24 months, but this one is the best I'm not saying it won't happen, but I can't imagine a WORSE fit for the SEC when it comes to the SEC cash cow. What would be the benefit of taking both (or either) of them?? This is ALMOST as good as the UNC Charlotte to the SEC stuff.

Basketball/Baseball would be my guess.

This. UNC and Duke make the SEC into a pretty legit basketball conference when you factor in Florida, Kentucky, Mizzou and Ole Miss, although there are still a ton of cupcakes in the SEC.

When this A-lister walked down the halls, there were people who actually broke down in tears upon sight.

This. UNC and Duke make the SEC into a pretty legit basketball conference when you factor in Florida, Kentucky, Mizzou and Ole Miss, although there are still a ton of cupcakes in the SEC.

It makes them top heavy like they are in football and very inconsistent at being top heavy (sans Duke). For what they give the conference in basketball, they take away more from football though.

Not sure I like the snarky gump...seems beneath you. I'm not confident what the fans wearing has much, if anything to do with the recruiting classes. I suspect it's the success on the field is what we can attribute to the recruiting classes and state of the art facilities. However, I will say the dedication by the fans in deep south rivals that of the dedication displayed by Nascar fans. I've never seen fanbases as loyal, dedicated and invested in their "teams" as those two groups.

Ill make fun of the same people....imagine the scene of them walking into nice restaurants in LA all 'geared up' with A list celebrities not being aware of the game and looking at them like the circus must be in town....but I understand the program isn't where it is without their over the top support. This whole investigation has been a shamockery! It's been over 2 years since UM self reported possible violations. 5 months ago Bruce Feldman wrote an article detailing how the NCAA was using the bankruptcy depositions to try and dig up evidence. Emmert today said that this stuff had come up in the fall, yet they are just now coming out with this?!Seems like while they were going over preliminary NOA stuff with the NCAA UM decided to go on the offensive. I wouldn't be surprised if the lawyers for UM were discussing a settlement in this that would include time served and maybe some probation along with some compliance changes. That would allow the NCAA to escape without further egg on its face. It already has the McNair & PSU lawsuits to contend with as well as the show Shabazz Muhammed fiasco that just happened recently.

Individual schools win championships, not conferences. Or, do you have a link to championships that have been awarded to a conference?Why would you have to be a fan of AN SEC team to understand? Wouldn't it behoove all conferences to subscribe to this belief? Particularly a conference like the Pac 12? LHUCKS is banned by the way.

Check his twitter, I'm pretty sure he linked to the article multiple times today while this whole thing was going down.I haven't reread it, but I don't think he commented on the legality of having the NCAA investigator in the room during the deposition. Just talked about how the questions were slanted more towards the NCAA investigation than towards getting back any of the money that Shapiro took from people.

Ok...now I'm getting it. So the NCAA paid the lawyer to extract info during that trail that was more meaningful to the U investigation....since they don't have subpoena power to get it. There are lawyers all over the place on the NCAA Enforcement Staff too...can't be good for their future.

I don't find it odd at all. It's just SEC pride. Every team in the conference hates each other, but still wants it's conference to win championships. It's hard to understand unless you're an SEC fan. When a SEC team beats a top out of conference team, you hear a stadium wide "SEC" chant at the end of the game. We are proud of being the #1 conference.

I don't think "hate" is the word you're looking for here...at least if you're using the dictionary definition of "hate"

Surprised no talk here of The U and NCAA blowup today....sounds like Shalala may have dug something up that could bring the joke of an org to its knees.

This whole investigation has been a shamockery! It's been over 2 years since UM self reported possible violations. 5 months ago Bruce Feldman wrote an article detailing how the NCAA was using the bankruptcy depositions to try and dig up evidence.

Haven't seen that....so did Feldman write that they were doing it legally?

So the lawyer in question is this guy Perez....and he was questioning a former Equipment guy at UM in the bankruptcy trial, but asking questions that were apparently way off the topic to get more info.I know the NCAA can skirt the legal system with their enforcement and sanctions....but they can't skirt the law when investigating. Somebody is going down.

Basically, but it goes deeper than that. Evidently this lawyer was somehow on the NCAA payroll but was never actually approved to be on the payroll. So when she submitted invoices for work done (in the fall) that is what tipped off the NCAA that something wasn't right. But it took them until 2 weeks before NLOI day to actually announce that they screwed up and that the internal investigation is going to take 10-14 days? That just seems a little too convenient to me. UM has already lost multiple recruits because of the prolonged investigation (and is in dogfights for all of their last targets), they have lost multiple bowls and the revenue & exposure that comes with it, and have been effectively on probation for almost 2 years while the NCAA drags it's feet. The NCAA has already fired one of the lead investigators because of something. They have tried to extort confessions from former players. Bundle all of that in with the Shabazz Mohammed stuff as well as the PSU & McNair lawsuits along with the fact that what they did with the bankruptcy depositions is borderline illegal, if I'm UM lawyers I'm pushing hard for the NCAA to just declare that they screwed up and the whole investigation is over with time served.

I hope this is the first step in killing the NCAA as we know it and getting some common sense into college football and mens basketball.

Hope not. The main thing that would do is ensure the men's basketball turns into college football where only a few schools are allowed to use the big boy field and make any money. Keeping the 68 team hoops tourney with autobids is reason enough for the NCAA to exist all by itself IMO.

They're offering, but they're not selling many. The college segment of the licensed business offers 50x as many tee graphics....you can find almost anything.And conference specific tees are a way for manufacturers to sell product for a school that they may not otherwise have a license for....so they'll try anything.
