Why have an open date at a great college with a great following? Doesn't seem to make much sense to turn away revenue.

An extra cupcake game is a sure way to bring in more funds for the school and other athletics. Some fans are going to every game whether it is against Alabama, or Alabama Northeastern Tech Community College.
Every school in the country has at least 1 and most have 2. The issue is when they occur.
Some Big 12 schools have 3 byes.
As a function of the lack of a championship game. OU had 2 but the B12 talked OU & OSU to moving their game from this weekend to next weekend to have a conference presence on TV when everyone else has their championship game. Stoops didn't want to but capitulated.

Right...so their regular season is actually a week longer than other conferences...so there's more flexibility with byes.

So? The B12 managed to get their OOC games in by the end of September when they had a championship game. It's not rocket science.

It's like a bunch of people sat a room going "Isn't there anything new we can criticize the SEC for?"
I understand it. We're building towards conference championships, the season is coming down to nut-crunch time. Who is Bama playing this week?????????

The Catamounts!

Analyze that, Herbie.

I would think the anti-SEC crowd would enjoy a week when that league's games are getting less attention,
I wasn't aware ESPN talking heads were the anti-SEC crowd.
Faking it to try to gain cred for when they go back to trying to get 5 SEC teams into the playoff, of course.

But why do you give a ### when Bama plays W.Carolina?
The P12 manages it. The B1G manages it. Why can't the SEC?
I don't think you're going to see UGA-GT, FSU-Florida, Kentucky-Louisville, and Clemson-South Carolina moved to September.
No one's asking them to do that.
You said "he B12 managed to get their OOC games in by the end of September when they had a championship game. It's not rocket science."
You guys do like your straw men, don't you?

We are not discussing what I said. We are discussing what the Gameday crew said.

Bill Plaschke in today's Los Angeles Times:

Today the city, tomorrow the country? With such an overwhelming victory against such a respected opponent, the Bruins are now clearly in a position to win two consecutive games and land in college football's new four-team playoff for the national championship.

Even with their two losses, if the Bruins can beat Stanford at the Rose Bowl on Friday, then upset Oregon in the Pac-12 championship game in Santa Clara in two weeks, they would certainly deserve a spot in that newfangled final four.

"This sets us up to be chasing our dream," said Mora, speaking specifically of the Pac-12 title game. "But you can't sit here and gloat."

Watching them Saturday night, fans of ninth-ranked UCLA were surely more about dreaming than gloating, as it was tough to imagine four college football teams who are currently playing better.

Don't listen to me, listen to Bill!

You guys are being awful hard on Vandy. They are still in the sec and not an FCS school. Can't help it we get them the week before our rival.

We got the best of both worlds woth that draw.

Clemson no shot against SC without Watson. Stoudt is terrible.

Miss St should destroy Ole Miss.
I usually have a terrible feeling about the egg bowl....feeling pretty good about it this year.

I was shocked the game was a pick. It's since moved the msu -1, but I was thinking we'd be a 5 point favorite.

You're less of a know-nothing blowhard than Plaschke.

It's a combination of several things mentioned...but the biggest difference is the SEC schools usually guarantee 1 more home game than other conferences. That can obviously change...but as we've discussed many...many...many times...it won't be easy.

South Carolina hosted South Alabama this past weekend.

One of the good things about these type games is the new young fans.

There are often plenty of tickets for these games and this past Saturday the stands were full of parents with young kids.

These are the people that don't get season tickets and get these tickets from others and take kids to their first game.

It's a great sight.

I was confident that Arkansas would beat LSU and Ole Miss, Arkansas always gets up to play LSU and Ole Miss is/was overrated, not to mention Arkansas is very solid in Fayetteville.

I don't feel very confident about the Missouri game, I feel it's a combination of things though. I don't know much about Missouri, the Hogs going on the road, the B. Allen injury, the Friday kickoff, the emotional high Arkansas is on.

Haven't watched Missouri much but Arkansas has been relying heavily on the defense, aside from Brandon Allen improving and the TE's, I haven't seen much from the offense. Could be the a result of SEC defenses.

Does the success of Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry, Jeremy Hill make Les Miles a more attractive or less attractive candidate for another program to swoop in?

Look at the talent that guy can recruit?

--or---

Look at all of the talent that guy has and he can only get to the Outback Bowl.

He's been to two national championship games and won one of them. I think the guy you're looking for is Mark Richt.

Hearing the Egg Bowl is off the board now. Possible announcement of Bo Wallace coming.

I'm sure that would hurt us in the committees eyes.

This was posted 30 minutes ago on the Ole Miss 247 board...is there something else not being said?

“Bo obviously hurt his ankle the other night…it is an ankle sprain. It would take a lot more than that to keep him out of this game,” Freeze said Monday.

“He’s hungry and wants to play in the game in a bad way. He’s going to try to go no matter what…He’s gotten better each day…yesterday and today…so hopefully he’ll be close to a hundred percent.”

No homer glasses there -- none whatsoever.

Former. LSU is a very young team at the skill posistions this year. I can't wait to see what they look like over the next two years.

The Pac 12 championship game this year will be in a neutral spot (I think it's where the Giants play.) Previously, the team with the better record would have hosted.

What's better?

For?

It's at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara where the 49ers play.

I wish the team with the better record hosted conference championship games, but neutral field has become the standard, unfortunately.
