As long as they're playing FSU every year I don't think it's an issue. They play FSU in state. Is that not good enough?
That's fair, but then again they averaged almost 2 games per year against top 5 opponents through the 90's, so it's not like things were super easy then either. Sadly SOS doesn't go back that far, but as far back as it does go (2003) Florida's worst SOS rating is (significantly) better than the average SOS rating of most of the teams of the folks who have complained about them not traveling out of state here.I think "care about" is overselling the motive here. I know I don't really care what they do. I know if I were a fan, I'd be a bit annoyed that I couldn't travel to different places to see my team play. Short of that, I couldn't care less what Florida does or what excuses/reasons (whatever you want to call them) they give for doing what they do. However, I will say, it's always interesting to hear recent SOS in the conference brought up as if that's been the case since 1991 That's a bit disingenuous IMO.
My "damn" was at the sheer number of years, more than anything else...that's pretty impressive.
I like the disclaimer at the end:
You know, except that you used clips from the actual movie.Any similarities to the movie SPEED or any of its characters is purely coincidental
That'll just speed things up even more for those fast paced teams, right? One good thing comes from this...some major conferences, including the SEC, are testing adding an 8th official who's job it will be to control the spotting of the ball. This allows the ump or whoever was spotting it before to get into his position quicker.
The officials themselves have admitted this has been a problem that led to missed calls on various procedure or illegal downfield issues. One play many point to as an example was a key TD in the Alabama Auburn game.
Not sure. It sounds like Umps were sacrificing their position to get the ball placed immediately. That'll just speed things up even more for those fast paced teams, right? One good thing comes from this...some major conferences, including the SEC, are testing adding an 8th official who's job it will be to control the spotting of the ball. I think I read somewhere that when Oregon's going quick it's on average 15 seconds between plays. IMO, this isn't about the time between the plays, it's about being able to substitute in players and keep them fresh. Against these teams you can't swap defensive players in and out because they get to the line so quick and you don't know when they are going to snap the ball. I think that's a bigger driver than the amount of time between plays even though they won't say that. I too agree that wreck's question would be good for any coach who believes this is a good idea. You know, Saban's last few sentences there are a good point. If this thing was presented without he and Bielema leading the charge it would've probably had a better chance.
I also agree with what wreck said about Bama pounding some team like Georgia State. Would be a good question to ask Saban.
again, if number of plays is a health issue, limit themYou know, Saban's last few sentences there are a good point. If this thing was presented without he and Bielema leading the charge it would've probably had a better chance.

that's the beauty of this proposal. They want to do some more studies of it (and by more I mean any). So Saban can just keep having his players get phantom injuries and then next time say "See, look at the rash of injuries my team had during hurry up offense possessions"Saban has timeouts 3 per half use them. Slow down the other team and replace your 5 star stud athletes with other 5 stud athletes. Alabama has the highest ranked recruiting class year in and year out I am sure they have depth at all positions. Saban is dishonest when he says that "this is a player safety issue." It has been said multiple times before that "IF" Saban was really worried about player safety he would be trying to implement a max number of how many people can blitz the QB, or not scheduling patsies and running roughshod over them. Saban might not be the only coach who wants to slow the game down, but he will be the name that is attached to this rule.
The only injury that slowing down offenses will prevent is the "phantom injury" that is taking place by defenses to slow down fast paced offenses.
Saban hasn't been accused of having players fake injuries. Ironically, Auburn has.that's the beauty of this proposal. They want to do some more studies of it (and by more I mean any). Please tell me they aren't messing with the helmets. All I ask.Cap - something of interest to you that I saw today...looks good.

And Rutgers-Washington are playing in 16-17.UCLA and Rutgers move their series to 2020-2021.
UCLA will now have a home and home with Texas A&M in 2016-2017.
UCF QB Blake Bortles looked pretty impressive today against Penn State. He made a lot of great throws downfield. It seems like he has a great combination of arm strength and accuracy. He is also extremely mobile for a tall, big-armed pro-style QB. I read that some NFL scouts apparently like him more than AJ McCarron and Aaron Murray. Bortles may be an interesting guy to watch this year.
Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay now lists UCF's Blake Bortles as his top QB prospect.
He relayed the news following Bortles' pro day. We are paraphrasing, but McShay made the statement after citing the differences between Brotles' and Teddy Bridgewater's pro days, both of which the evaluator attended. ESPN's Ron Jaworski agreed. As recently as March 13, McShay ranked Bridgewater as the No. 8 overall prospect, with Blake Bortles at No. 10.
UCF's Blake Bortles "possesses all of the traits teams look for in a franchise quarterback" and "has the highest ceiling of any QB in this draft," believes Greg A. Bedard of Monday Morning Quarterback.
Peerless down the sideline!Peyton and UT against Auburn in the SEC title game on ESPN Classic. 12/6/97.
Very cool. A lot can change in 7/10 years, but should be an interesting matchup considering LSU will be coming off of 6 straight national championships. I'm assuming it will be the season opener.UCLA and LSU agree to a home and home series. 2021 in the Rose Bowl and 2024 in Tiger Stadium.
UCLA's got some nice matchups coming up for the next 10 years or so. [Virginia 2014-15] Texas in Dallas (2014), Texas A&M (2016-17), Oklahoma (2018-19), LSU (2021 and 2024), and Michigan (2022-23). Rutgers is also on the docket for 2020-21 and they might be decent by then.
I'd be worried about those 6 if UCLA hadn't won the previous 4 and been runner-up to LSU's 6...Very cool. What happened to Michigan?
Gibbons, the senior kicker, had been accused of raping a co-ed, but the co-ed didn't pursue it. This happened his freshman year under Rich Rod. So the police didn't really pursue it either. Apparently it festered over the years and it came bubbling back up near the end of the year this past year and while the controversy was brewing the kid was still allowed to play. Investigation was reopened and in Jan they "separated" him from the university. He was expelled. Lots of folks didn't like Hoke's position of "letting the process (investigation) run it's course" and thought he should have been kicked off the team prior to investigation being complete. Lots of folks were angered by the lack of response from the athletic department etc. What happened to Michigan?
