**Official** 2015 Washington Redskins Thread YOU LIKE THAT! (2 Viewers)

McCloughan's first draft looking pretty decent right now.
Yep. I took crap for saying they had the best draft in the division but they seemed to make a lot of very solid, logical picks IMO

I think you guys take this game too. The match-up seems like a good one for your offense too, I'm thinking 24-17
A lot of people are picking the Redskins but this game makes me nervous as heck!

1. GB pass defense is best Redskins have faced. Cousins has sliced up Chicago, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Dallas the last four weeks but will have to up his game on the big stage vs. GB. Not saying he can't do it but we haven't seen it yet.

2. GB can pound the rock with Lacy. I'd honestly rather have Rodgers try to beat us. I think GBs game should be run the ball, control the clock, and limit Cousins' chances to ratchet the pressure up on him.

I certainly think the Redskins CAN win and don't think it's inappropriate to give them the edge at home. However, this game is truly a pickem and will likely come down to who makes fewer mistakes/turnovers. I think it will be an enjoyable one to watch actually.

Hoping that the Skins can pull it off but not counting on it. Season for us will be a huge success win, lose or draw, regardless of what the media will inevitably say later on...

Based on very recent performances they should beat the Packers. Go back and look at how the Skins have played throughout the season, though, and it still seems possible they could be behind 31-7 at the half, and just scoring a few "honorable mention" points in the second.

I don't know if they've been playing over their heads for the last few weeks, or if they're jelling into a good team. I'm just glad there's Sunday's game to find out.

just two men on the active roster played even one down under former head coach Jim Zorn. Meanwhile, four players on that 53-man roster arrived in the last month, which means they’ve never experienced a single loss in Washington. You think Marcel Jensen or Alex Smith care about the swinging gate? They’re just trying to figure out what Raljon stands for.
Twenty-three of the team’s 53 active players arrived either in calendar year 2015 or in the first week of 2016. Add in the practice squad, and there are 33 players who have been here less than a year. Forget talk of Shanahan or Gibbs; a majority of the team’s locker room hasn’t experienced a losing season in Washington.

agreed. My main concern is defense. If they go up 21 points in the 2nd or even early 3rd quarter, im not confident it will hold. Will be interesting.

Fan of more than a couple guys on the Washington roster from their college/NFL background, and nice to see them get some postseason run (and Gruden, too, from his time in Orlando. Go Preds!) I hope you guys represent the NFC East proudly, as I hated seeing the NFC East take so much flak this year. In hindsight I suppose it was all well deserved, but no doubt your team stepped right through an open door and capitalized on the opportunity. One of the more interesting stories of 2015 for sure. Well done.

GB finished 4-6, and could have been 3-7 easily (Detroit hail Mary game). I'm liking what the Washington offense is bringing right now. Put my money down on WAS +1 and loving my chances here.

Side note: The first NFL game I ever saw live was an Eagles/Washington game at RFK in November of 2000. Bought tix off StubHub and took my dad to the game two weeks before I shipped overseas to Japan. McNabb rushed for 125 and the Eagles won. Great game, great fans in DC. The franchise hasn't been very good in the 20 or so years I have been actively watching football, only 4 or so winning seasons, so that has to make this unexpected run all the more sweet. I don't think the ride stops here, FWIW.

Al the talking head articles I have seen (ESPN, etc) has been picking GB, and that's the way I like it. Just like the Spurs, lay low, stay out of the news, then just come out and perform. And win.

This is incredible. Another year of turnover, letting guys go and bringing in McCloughan's guys in FA and the draft and this roster will be completely unrecognizable. One year, almost total turnover.

That's how you change to a "winning culture", along with bringing in the 7-8 vets that he did who ALL had SB experience. That was seriously underrated.

As a Cowboys fan im rooting for the Skins. The only team in the division I would root for. Philly fans are the worst but I had a great time in Landover recently at a couple games and I love rooting for the team everyone in the media says doesn't belong.

Sam Shields is out for the Packers (4th straight week with a concussion). If Cousins gets time to throw, receivers should be open.

Just curious, so a Skins fan from Dallas? How did that happen?

At one point earlier this season, before the leaves fell, the Washington Redskins weren't planning on using the franchise tag on Kirk Cousins, because of the promise that it fall north of $19 million, depending on where the cap is set. Now? They've come to grips with the fact that they might need to. Per sources, the Redskins intend to execute a blockbuster deal with their new franchise quarterback before the deadline to tag players in early March, but are fully prepared to franchise Cousins if they can't beat the clock. As one source explained it, "He's not getting out of the building."

Also, on Friday, I told my wife I would gladly give up my weekend and 2 days of my life to just fastforward to Sunday gametime. I treasure my weekends off. I'm glad its almost here.

This is stuff I'd rather talk about after the season but there's no way to put it off that long.

Report: Washington prepared to tag Cousins
i read that yesterday, scared the shiznit outta me. specifically, the part about using the franchise tag and what it likely means from a guaranteed contract standpoint. We are going to be on the hook for a large portion of the cap here.
That article is such fearmongering. Mike Florio is a known Redskins hater. I believe Cousins will sign a long term deal south of 20 m per year. Bonuses and incentives may be used.

Players want long term security not one year deals where an injury ruins them. Yes Cousins will be paid but Florio is writing a doomsday scenario. The guy hates the redskins and his analysis is way slanted. Believe me.

Go Skins!

It's 30, snowing, and 40 mph winds in central Ohio today -- a bunch of friends coming over to watch the game. Some are Browns fans (pity them), some are Bengals fans (I wonder if they're still alive today...haven't checked), and some are Steelers fans (hopefully no fights between them and the Bengal fans)...but they tell me they're all rooting for the Skins today!

Probably smart don't you think? Before locking up long term $ make him prove it's not a fluke? Worst case you are out a big # next year but that's it. Also doesn't allow him to get too comfortable.

I hope you are right. I have noticed that about PFT, too.

Green Bay has JC Tretter starting at LT today, he typically plays center and has never played LT in the NFL. Not sure if it matters too much since Rodgers is so dangerous ab libbing plays.

Oh and the game better not be blacked out by Fatty, he'll go crazy, although I will miss my Doc Walker updates today

Kirk clarified to Erin Andrews that "You Like That!" is "a statement, not a question." No question mark, apparently.

Now that that's settled....

Good luck, Skins fans.

I'm an Eagles fan, but I like Cousins. He seems like a humble, good guy.

I'll be rooting for you guys.

agreed. The D is just atrocious. Need to figure out the running game as well. Either way, im happy with the progress we made this season.

Have to say, not impressed with Cousins in this one. When things started going south, he seemed to regress a bit again.
Meh. He showed you what he is, he's not a top 5 QB like his stats indicated towards the last few games of the year. He's a bit better than a middle of the pack starter with upside, and should be paid accordingly.

I agree, but "accordingly" doesn't work for paying QBs the way it works for paying other positions. I expect some skins fans to rationalize a giant contract while understanding the supply and demand market dictates that QBs get overpaid while others will be freaking out.

I'd expect to see him sign an incentive laden deal with a solid bonus or get franchised. Bruce Allen is a dolt but he's at least reined in crazy Snyder/Cerrato spending. So I doubt they overpay.Either way McCloughan has done well enough this year that no matter what he decides to do I'm on board with it.

Going into this game, the Redskins had nothing to lose, and they started things off playing like it. They need to play the whole game like that, no matter what happened, but it appeared to me that once they staked a lead and the Packers began to show life and get back into it, their level of aggressiveness decreased on both sides of the ball, and they started looking 'tight', like a Team 'playing not to lose'. Aggressiveness appeared to go way down on defense, especially going after Rodgers regardless of the consequences. As soon as Rodgers established a comfort level, he began to work the magic we've seen from him over the years. Packers offense got into a rhythm, and it was just a matter of time.

I don't care who the 'skins beat or lost to. 9-7 and a playoff appearance was nowhere near what anyone expected out of this Redskins Team going into 2015, and rightfully so. Nice to have some excitement down the stretch run for a change, especially with all the injuries. Still not a good team, but there are some building blocks and some potential. Gruden and Cousins both came a long way this season, and give me a lot to look forward to next season. Still a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball, but McCloughan seems to be of to a decent start. Draft worked out well and he made some very solid in-season moves.

One of the greatest things about McCloughan doesn't get mentioned enough, especially not here. After a short while here, he held an interview/press conference where he clearly stated (and IMHO, not enough people listened) that Jay Gruden was going to have complete authority over the coaching staff. Gruden and McCloughan together brought in Matt Cavanaugh, Bill Callahan, Joe Barry and others. Those 3, and Perry Fewell, all deserve kudos and raises for the impact they had on this Team. With what they had to work with, we got a lot more excitement out of this Team than we should have, and with it, some real hope for improvement in 2016.

Congrats to the 2015-16 Redskins for overachieving.

I like that.

McCloughan's influence is huge IMO. I suspect that's where a lot of Gruden delegating out some of his duties to Cavanaugh and McVay came from. Organization looks like it's being run with an adult in the room.

I'm pretty damned disappointed. I know, I know. They were not anywhere near good enough to even think of getting to the conference championship game or super bowl. I know. It just eats #### when they lose. Always has, always will.

They played a good first quarter but even there they left 5 points on the field. And after that they did little right. The defense stopped very little, the running game did little, Cousins was inaccurate, they didn't get the close calls. Once momentum swung they didn't have the ability to swing it back.

It's a hell of a better season than we expected, and there's more reason for next-year optimism as well.

It just eats #### when they lose.
