Asked the question about "consultants" being in the coaches' box during game when the news broke a couple months ago.  I didn't see it answered here.  Did I miss it?
They are fine in the coaches box in-game, and listening to the conversations between the coaches and players over the headsets.  They just can't participate in those conversations.  What they can also do is help at halftime with adjustments.

so, they're coaches then

That kind of stuff annoys me,” Boulware said, via Brian Hamilton of SI.com. “The game is so serious and it’s so locked in out there, you try to do stuff just to have fun, to break up the seriousness of the game. People are trying to say ‘sexual assault’ — people that say that have either never played football, have never been in a locker room and seen the weird stuff. We’re together every day for years and years and years. You get very comfortable around each other. I know there’s going to be that one person [who says] ‘Well, I played football and I never did that.’ You either sucked at football, you had no friends in the locker room, or you were the person that went in the bathroom stall to go change because you were scared to shower with the team.

“We do that stuff just to have fun out there, just to mess with the team. I know none of those players care. . . . .’Do you all practice this at Clemson?’ No, we practice beating y’all by 49 points. That’s something I did on the side.

“It’s annoying, because the players don’t care. . . . .That’s for the media to blow that up. Yes, Christian went — he went about four fingers deep. He went a little too far. But when I’m messing with somebody, poking them in the belly button or grabbing someone’s butt, it’s just to break up the seriousness of the game. The people who are freaking out about that have never played the game, or were just losers who didn’t have any friends when they played the game. It’s annoying.”

The author is kind of a doosh: " The whole thing is wrong, and Boulware’s ridiculous effort to explain it away hopefully will be enough to get him removed from 32 draft boards. "

JT Barrett announced today he was coming back to school, instead of starting his second career of not playing football.

Apparently this wasn't known by a lot of people?  What was his other choice?  Start coaching?  He hasn't even graduated yet, has he?

Of course he is, but the craziest thing Boulware said wasn't even posted in here.

I think they should just pen that as getting Dabo'd. His name is so cool and I don't think this is as rampant as Boulware thinks. Hopefully a lot of Bama players get Dabo'd Monday night and this thing takes off.

:lmao:

You beat me to it because I was thinking the same thing earlier when I read this.  "I think I'll postpone my career in stocking shelves for another season, go OHIO!"

The best quote?

"It might look weird or homosexual to others, but it’s just fun out there.”

He really just wants to beat Xichigan yet again.  Kind of like all those winless Wolverine seniors, but with wins instead of losses.

hes gotta hope he has a huge year and is a high draft pick.  I dont think hes even gonna be a backup on the next level
He has to figure out how to throw the ball +15 yards down the field with some semblance of accuracy.  At this point he has to be IN the boat ON the water to hit the water.  The defense from Clemson spoke 100% truth about him.

I agree.  But if he has a nice year some dumb team will draft him.  Just sayin.  It happens every year
Clemson spent the week before the game telling that dude he sucks and then they shut him out. That's embarrassing.

He doesn't have any traits that an NFL team would be looking for in a QB. Maybe he can switch to WR like Pryor did, I dunno. I'm surprised Urban is planning to stick with him actually.

You know he's looking to replace him if possible

Joe Burrow has the actual ability of a QB, I sincerly hope Urban makes it a competition in the spring. He seems tied to JT. JT will never win a championship if they ask him to carry the offense. He's not good enough.

As a bama fan I am very worried about this rematch with Clemson.  Gotta hope Watson has a down game.  Which rarely happens. I don't think bama offense can keep up.  Think we lose a close one.  Hope I'm wrong.

I'm shocked Clemson is +6.5. I think they win this game.

Urban's been pretty loyal to his QBs...to a fault IMO.  I often wonder what kids with ambitions of being a QB in the NFL are thinking going to Urban's system.  It's produced Tebow, Miller, Barrett etc.  This isn't a very good track record.  Yeah, they are absolutely perfect for his system and success in that system.  After that, not so much.

Come on, man.  Support the state.  I grew up in Greenville, mostly Clemson territory.  Now live near Columbia and I support the Gamecocks too.  Spent much of my adult life in the military and have lived in different parts of the country.  During that time I learned to support all schools in the state.  My son graduated from Clemson a few years ago.

The gators and hurricanes can both eat ####. #### supporting the state.

Bama's OL will need a very good game with how Clemson's DL is playing (###/**** grabbing aside)

I get it.  I went to Clemson, wife went to SCar.  She doesn't care and actually likes Clemson more (started at Clemson and transferred when parents health went downhill to be closer). Anyway, when SCar was about to win their college World Series, I was actively pulling for them and when the last out happened I cheered. Then my brother in law turned and said "Hahaha Clemsux and couldn't make it this far!!"  That was his first thought. At that point I realized they would always play the little brother role and hating Clemson is more important than them winning.

All that #### is so embarrassing. I won't be sad when Boulware is gone.  Wilkins is a hell of a player, but there's no excuse for that. It embarrasses the school and has made it a talking point leading up to the biggest game of the year.

It is easy to forget 2014 JT when he was phenomenal running and passing.  Up to that awful leg break, he was on pace to be a Heisman finalist.  Herman leaving on the team changes have messed with his mind and ability, I guess.  Too bad because he looked amazing that 2014 season.  Passing was just fine.

IMO the line will go up actually.  It's the opposite of last year, where the media was handing Bama the trophy pregame, but people who looked more closely said it was close.

  • I think that 16 Bama is clearly better than 15 Bama, and 16 Clemson is just a step worse than 15 Clemson.  S&P+ agrees.
  • Clemson's defensive strengths line up worse this year...better v the Pass, worse v the Run (and Sark should be more run-oriented)
  • Watson was much more turnover-prone in 16, and the Bama D is obviously a TO machine
Ultimately Watson is the wild-card because he can be spectacular.  But I like the way the Bama D dropped to much more Zone against UW...taking away the 1-on-1 opps that have been there the last few years.  Clemson will HAVE TO run the ball with success.

I like Bama to cover...I say very tentatively.  The Bama D is special.

Meanwhile I had to watch one of those CWS games with a few Clemson fans who spent the whole time cursing about South Carolina.  The hatred like you describe goes both ways.

Also, remember WHY Clemson didn't make it to the CWS final in 2010? :)

I remember 2010. 2002/3 (can't remember which year was worse) when you beat us two straight to get to the title game.

Maybe it's because I grew up in Atlanta and didn't have the hatred growing up or maybe it's because I have a ton of gamecock friends (lived in Rosewood for 6 years after college), but I just don't have that same level of animosity.  It's more of an annoyance than a burning hatred.

My wife and kids hate the Gamechickens.  I did too when in high school.  But came to appreciate them when living across the country.  I pulled for them when they were on top of the college baseball world and still do.  I was ecstatic when Coastal Carolina won the baseball title.  I pulled for them when Holtz was here and when Spurrier had the 11 win seasons.  I'm more of a Clemson fan but don't hate USC.

My daughter's house is interesting.  He is a staunch USC fan.  She is and has always been all in with Clemson.  She now hates USC because of her in-laws who really hate Clemson.  She lives in Bluffton around her Husband's family, all Clemson haters.  My Grandson just turned 1.  A house divided.  When Clemson plays he she dresses him in orange/purple but when USC plays he dresses him in garnett/black.  When they play each other they promised to alternate years.

She watched the Clemson/USC beat down at my house this year and had a ball.

Yeah, that makes sense. We can all be friends over some Rockaways, just don't start that cadence count.
