*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (1 Viewer)

Mooch (NFL Network coverage) noted McNabb was the last #2 overall pick by PHI, and they didn't start him right away. The starter was somebody named Doug Pederson.

Yep done now.  Now the question is will everyone cheer for him now or not
You know that's not a question. He will get booed until he makes them stop booing or we get bored of booing.

Personally I'd rather we see Daniel and put Sam on the bench. Saves him from getting hurt at least. He should be happy about that.

lol what?  after all this, you don't bench Sam now and have him as a useless backup.

So you personally said you wouldn't take a 3rd rounder but now want him as a backup qb???

Somebody like the Jets might be interested now though.  Now that Bradford is here for probably a year at the most, I don't much care what they do with him anymore.  If they get something in return this year or next it might be worth getting rid of the headache.

i'd be happy with a 3rd round pick, and have no interest seeing him playing reg. season game for the Eagles. especially with the way it seems that Bradford is behind some of this stuff now. Creating locker room issues for a 1st year head coach is not ideal. and i really am kind of in the same boat as Insein, i won't openly boo him but i really am kind of indifferent and certainly not excited to see him play for the team.

If he proves my thoughts on him wrong (which i won't mind one bit admitting i was wrong about him and he is apparently better then an 8-8 QB), and strings together a few good games against good teams and showing the moxey that if the Eagles are down 7 points or so in the 4th Q he gives the team a chance to do something. it is really hard to judge him from last year because who knows how much was on coaching, but i can't remember one time the Eagles were down but still in the game (discounting some games like Atl 2nd half, etc) where i felt Sam gave the team a real advantage or showed the ability to lead the team.

Carlos Hyde is going to be under-rated going into this season. Too bad the only spot I own him is a league that's folding :(

So...... was KC going to draft Lynch? That is a classic Reid move.
i think the move was based more on no future QB on the team, and this being the only opportunity to get a top 2-3 QB in the draft.  Apparently teams like New Orleans and Dallas were pretty high on him and would have grabbed him before fell to the Eagles. Really hope we don't see the Eagles with an opportunity to draft in top 10-15 again for some time:

It's just crazy that the guy did nothing bad off the field except want to play here and then his agent said that, and now we won't get behind him.  Hope he can save face here and at least have eagles fans cheer for their qb.

Bradford / his agent have badly mishandled this situation and misjudged his value.  Two teams decided he didn't warrant long term commitment but they still seem to think he has better options than to focus on playing consistently well in the short term to rebuild his reputation.  Then he might find a team who wants to commit to him for 5 years.  Nobody apart from Bradford and Condon thinks that's an option right now.

I can't speak for everybody, but it isn't like i hate the guy or have a vendetta against him. I just really am indifferent about him. It was like when the Eagles started Ty Detmer, or Bobby Hoying, or a few others who have been around (Koy Detmer was gritty and had that underdog feel that would go for broke so i didn't mind him at all).

And with those guys they felt like they were part of the team and would put their effort to help the team where they could. I don't really feel that with Sam, so maybe i am down on him a little more then above. but no, i don't plan to boo him or anything, just know he doesn't really give me any excitement or hope that he can compete at a high level and that even if the Eagles can stumble into the playoffs, i think we have seen what Sam can give us and basically we can expect to get real lucky if we can make it out of the first round. i just think we have seen what Sam can provide, hopefully he proves me wrong

I dont' think he wanted long term... just a better situation.  Denver might have offered a 2nd but Howie was stuck on a 1st.  I think Insein was right that the pressure from Lurie to not flush 11m down the drain comes into play.

Regardless now it doesn't matter.  As a Sam fan I hoped he got a better shot.... even moreso, as an eagles fan I hoped we picked up a valuable pick and had no locker room issues.  Now I just hope that fans can forget a couple days of him wanting out and can cheer for him.  Doubt it though :P

Are those picks just an example, or real info?  Because if I could buy a #2 for $11m of Lurie's money, I'd do it.  If Howie turned something like that down, it would be his first fail of the offseason.

I guess that 2nd paragraph is where you differ from most; a self confessed "Sam fan".  I just thought he was a viable plan B and worth another year in case he could elevate his game to Top 12 type level.  I was in favour of franchising him (glad we didn't do that or it would be guaranteed if he'd signed it) but nothing longer term.

I agree Ash. Bradford had to know that his offer was basically a 1 year deal. I mean seriously how many QBs ever play out the entire contract.

I do think Bradford wants to be on a team that he can grow with but he had that chance. Now he must deliver or he is passed on as a serviceable QB.

I was about to post in the Cowboys thread because we are being way to quiet now. They are #####ing because they got Elliot. If we were content with Bradford as our QB for next few years I would be ecstatic to draft Elliot.

But...

We just drafted a QB when we have a gapping hole at RB. We traded up to get this guy. I believe there is a plan to draft a RB but I still believe that Jamal Charles will play for the Eagles this season. KC can walk away without penalty right now.

I think Elliot is an elite talent but I can also understand the argument for not taking a RB so early like they did.

Depending on what happens tomorrow Dallas could have had a shot at a Ramsey/ Henry combo. That would be pretty good too

i don't think Sproles is done yet (though anything over 7 carries in a game won't be good). Nobody has any interest in seeing more of Barnum? i understand he doesn't seem to have anything special about him, but he certainly seems capable to fill in occasionally when needed.

and along with Charles, i would guess there are quite a few guys they can grab late in the draft or a free agent. I really don't see the Eagles doing a ton this year, would love them to pick up a guy like Arian Foster for nice a cheap and let him rehab most of the season. could always bring back Chris polk or bryce Brown who i believe are both free agents. there isn't a rush, and i am sure the Eagles know they need to address at some point. but certainly i think they have options if they get desperate

Totally just an example.  I wish we knew what was offered but may never find out.  Howie sure made it sound to the media at least, that he never wanted to trade Sam for anything.

I am a fan of his in the sense that I think he is better then the average fan thinks.  I think he has taken a ton of flack for his career wins when on awful teams (not his fault), or because he's been injured (not his fault).  He actually had a pretty solid season and had a winning record, all while playing very tough competition and having very little help.  I just hate when people go balls out to attack a guy over the smallest things like skipping a voluntary day of lifting weights or his agent saying some things on a radio show.  Just thought it would be best for both sides and a win win to ship him out of here so we could focus on Wentz as I'm excited about him.  Just not looking forward to the vengeful posts all season and more and more arguments about him.

Hey maybe the Jets will take a shot now and we can be done with it.

I guess Jack's knee is pretty bad

Chip takes 2 PAC-12 guys. Safe to say he has more power than we thought.

ESPN did a great job. LOVED the Wentz breakdowns showing him reading D's and checking out of plays. I love this kids potential.

RB's falling bodes well for our 3rd round pick too.

Very surprised by SF's move up for that guard.  But ya, Chip clearly has some say of what's going on

Don't really think there was any other RBs projected to go in the first round... MAYBE Henry but not really.  Let's hope we can trade back and get OL/RB in the late third/early fourth.

Trading up for a G is just nuts.  If they're letting Chip make those kind of calls they didn't learn anything from watching him bomb out with us.

Sorry, I forgot.  He just wants to coach football. :lmao:

While I am excited about our franchise Qb, seeing how the draft fell I have to agree with DH.
With Dallas improving immensely with just one pick, it's easy to feel that way. The verdict on this move will he made 5-10 years down the road. At this point, we just have to hope that  Wentz is truly a franchise quarterback. If he gives us 10 - 12 Roethlisberger-type years, then I think everybody is going to be very happy with this draft

So don't care. We have a QB for the future. Bradford is concerned about the future too. We'll help him by preserving his body on the bench. Win win.

Most fans including me are thrilled getting Elliott.  Some don't like the value, all love the player.

Talk about overplaying your hand.  Obviously, no interest from any team out there-Denver, the reigning SB champ, trading up for Lynch and most likely trotting Butt-Fumble out to start the season speaks volumes about Bradford.
Or it speaks volumes about how the Eagles view him.

I was so caught up with Dallas on the clock at 4, that I didn't congratulate you guys on Wentz.  You got the better QB and someone I would have loved to have on the Cowboys.

Putting the trade aside and figuring out if it's worth it etc etc etc.  At the end of the day, it a great pick. Going to be a fantastic player for you guys.  Grrrrr

I LOL'd at the Eli Apple pick-AWFUL. Doctson to Wash was a solid as well.

Hope Hick's bicep is good and healed up.  He'll need every muscle in his body to take down Zeke.  Going to be fun watching them in the near future.

Predictably, radio hosts already calling for Wentz to start day 1. "If he's so smart and good, he needs to be out there right away." Didn't even make it 24 hours.  :wall:

Been listening to some '87 Grateful Dead today.  Not a single mention of Wentz or Bradford  :D   It's been a nice departure.
