This. We are going to have to pay to keep Bradford. He's going to be a hot commodity. He's certainly not an elite QB, but he's shown he has top 10-12 potential. And some of those ahead of him (Eli, Rivers, Palmer, Brees) have way less years left than he does. He's going to be costly.Again, Goff won't fall to us. To take another QB reach and hope we can groom him to a starter would be a disaster. If you think fans are mad now, imagine if we draft a 1st round QB, let Sam walk, and win 5 games. The hating on him bandwagon was for the short-sighted. There is no imaginable way that keeping Sam isn't going to make our team better next year. We have way bigger needs in round 1.I would have no problem picking a QB in the first round if one of the prospects grades out as justifiable. Signing Daniels as a stop gap. Use money saved on Bradford to build elsewhere.
You think we trade back? And if we do pick a QB in round 1 I'd still want us to sign Sam anyway. IMO there's 4 QB's going in round 1 and if we stay at 13 (I don't think we will) we'll have a shot at possible getting the #2 QB off of the board
I was happy to see Coughlin pull out. I've met Lurie a few times and he's incredibly nice (even to Redskins fans). I always liked how he goes after the new hire rather than retreads and it's nice to see Pederson get an opportunity.dhockster said:My guess is the talk of coordinators is premature (as in they haven't hired them yet) or Pederson is having input into who is actually getting hired. I think Lurie is smart enough not to try and hire people who will work for the coach without the coach having input.thayman said:I like Pederson for you guys. Way better than Coughlin. Young and seems like he's got a good report with players but commands respect.
Is there any concern that seemingly staff is in place/getting set up around him and he won't pick his own Coordinators?
I think we can agree that Pederson has a good offensive mind and is a good OC. Does that mean he will be a good head coach? We don't know. Some Coordinators become great head coaches, some are terrible head coaches and should have never been a head coach because they could never stop just coaching one side of the ball.
Hiring an NFL coordinator means you have someone who understands coaching NFL Players. Hiring a college head coach means you have someone who understands coaching a whole team. There are pros and cons to both. Let's hope Pederson is smart enough to know that he has to coach all 53 guys and not just the guys on the offensive side of the ball.
Daniel seems like a mildly interesting option, given pederson's connection. I feel like I've read a couple good things about him here and there. Though you would think that Andy might have given him the chance offer Alex smith if he were good enough. But on a low contract along with a plan for the future, it's not be the worst situation.i think the only thing that would make me disappointed is if they signed Bradford to a long, expensive contract. everything i am reading makes it sound like money will be a big push for him, but i really don't want to lock in long-term money on him at this point. I think franchising makes sense, but you really hurt your ability to make any other adjustments or moves this off-season. could leave us with Bradford for a 1-year assessment and a crappy OL that will never let us see what Bradford can do.
but here is another option that i know was mentioned in here before, that i would like to see:
Chase Daniel
Assuming Bradford is gone, the Eagles are going to need a new veteran. And wouldn't it be funny if Doug Pederson signed his own version of Doug Pederson? That player would be none other than current Chiefs backup quarterback Chase Daniel. The 29-year-old Daniel is scheduled to be a free agent after the season. Pederson could sell Daniel on the idea of getting a chance to be the starter in Philadelphia.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying Daniel is likely the Eagles' next franchise quarterback. Through six NFL seasons, he's only started two games. He's completed 64.9% of his passes for 464 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and a 80.2 rating. The appeal is that he's an inexpensive placeholder who is familiar with Pederson's offense. In the best case scenario, he wins the Eagles' quarterback job and proves to be good starter. In the most realistic scenario, he starts some games and allows the team to groom a young quarterback behind him, similar to how Pederson started over Donovan McNabb in 1999.
It all depends on what Doug thinks, but if he worked with him for a bit and thinks he can be a good piece for a few years while we look for a long-term option, i am ok with that
I think mobile may autocorrect to Peterson, at least until you correct it once manually, before you have an aneurysm.FYP.Looking over the roster I think our skill position players are far more suited for a system like Peterson's Pederson's than they ever were for Kelly
I love that. Nobody watches as much film as Jaws.Just heard that Jaws was involved in the interview process. He couldn't mention it until the decision was made.

Just a feeling. We really need some depth and need to bring in a bunch of guys. JMOYou think we trade back? And if we do pick a QB in round 1 I'd still want us to sign Sam anyway. He was DC before there. They'll remember him quickly.i like the last sentence in this speculaltion for Chip:
49ers coach Chip Kelly could target Browns OC John DeFilippo as his offensive coordinator.
The Browns have yet to let DeFilippo out of his contract, but the 49ers have interest based on his ties to Kelly and CEO Jed York. In many respects, DeFilippo made wine out of water this season in Cleveland considering the Browns' talent deficiencies. The San Francisco Chronicle also speculates Kelly could bring Eagles DC Billy Davis to replace Eric Mangini.
This assumes Lurie cares what the fans and media think. I don't think he does.Peterson knows this town well enough to know that he needs Bradford more than Bradford needs him. If Peterson doesn't AT LEAST win the same amount of games that Chip did this past year, this town will have his head on a swivel. Eagle fans, and the horrible WIP station, would never get behind a rebuild. If the Eagles roll out Sanchez or Hoyer or Daniels or some other free agent because they were cheap, Peterson gets one, maybe two years, tops.i think the only thing that would make me disappointed is if they signed Bradford to a long, expensive contract. everything i am reading makes it sound like money will be a big push for him, but i really don't want to lock in long-term money on him at this point. no chance of that. Sproles maybe...If Demarco Murray gets traded to the 49ers he'll jump off a bridge.
I guess he can not use him there also.no chance of that. Sproles maybe...If Demarco Murray gets traded to the 49ers he'll jump off a bridge.
If this happens I would have to cheer against the 49ers really hard. If Kelly and Billy have success in San Fran that would be salt in the wounds. Would hope they pulled it together for the Dallas game and only the Dallas game though. He was DC before there. They'll remember him quickly.i like the last sentence in this speculaltion for Chip:

I'd be OK with this. He has that crazy attitude that's perfect for a DC but terrible as a HC. His defensive players love him and play nasty. Just doesn't translate well when you try to run a whole team.Sports Illustrated Don Banks reporting that the Eagles did talk to Jim Schwarz about DC

Exactly. Can you even think of a single hire that wouldn't be roasted by Philly media/radio? As much as it's blowing up with negativity now, I'm willing to bet it would be much worse if we hired Coughlin or Shurmur. Maybe even just as bad if we got Gase or McAdoo. We could lose the SB in 5 OT's and the fans would be in an uproar saying how they would have done it better if they were in charge. It doesn't matter who we hired as a HC. The narrative was written for each and every possible candidate.
They don't have Chip the GM to burry anymore so it's on to the next one.
I do kind of lean toward this POV. We shall see.Ruben Frank today. Burn, Howie, burn.
"Everybody knows Howie is holding back the organization," an NFL front-office executive said earlier this week. "Everybody but one person. And that person is the only one who matters. Jeffrey Lurie. He just doesn’t see it."
Some other highlights:
The franchise’s decline directly follows Howie Roseman’s rise to power.
Roseman has been general manager since 2010, minus last year, when Chip Kelly had the power. These have been dark days, filled with coaching turnover, quarterback instability, poor to average drafts and free agency catastrophes.
And precisely zero playoff wins.
Roseman is one of the most curious people to ever work for the

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/philadelphia-eagles. His track record is spotty, but he has Lurie convinced he’s some sort of boy wonder who can do no wrong. Lurie even fired Banner, his closest friend, in order to give Roseman even more power.
I predicted a couple weeks ago that the top coaching candidates would reject the Eagles because people league-wide just don’t want to work with Roseman. And here we are two weeks later with a guy coaching the Eagles who seven years ago was a high school coach in Louisiana.
I strongly lean that way.I do kind of lean toward this POV. We shall see.Ruben Frank today. Burn, Howie, burn.

Unrelated, but I didn't realize until today that Gamble had gone back to SF. Interesting.
Gruden or Cowher because the media in this town are so far stuck up their own asses they can't impartially evaluate anything.Exactly. And if it fails in 3-4 years all those idiots in the media can give a nice loud I told you so. But they all need to turn off their hater goggles and let the thing play out.I strongly lean that way. This next 3-4 years will be critical IMO if finding out once and for all if Lurie/Roseman are doing this right.I do kind of lean toward this POV. We shall see.Ruben Frank today. Burn, Howie, burn.

Have you seen kc skill people and qb?This OC is going to be a HC?
He plays small ball, that does not seem like an Eagles offense.
I don't understand any of what this is supposed to mean. This OC is going to be a HC?

He's not too sharp.Have you seen kc skill people and qb?This OC is going to be a HC?

This dead horse has already taken a beating. Look back in this thread and Chip thread. It seems like the Eagles should have just kept Andy Reid instead of hiring one of his protegees.
There is a narrative that Jeff is really feeling wistful about his time with Andy in the wake of all this Chip stuff, which is influencing his thought process. I think most fans agree that everything had just gotten stale and bottomed out with Andy and he just needed a change, but I do wonder if there could have been a Cowher-esque resurgence. It seems like the Eagles should have just kept Andy Reid instead of hiring one of his protegees.
Just thinking that, holy crap. Slowest 'hurry up' drive I've ever seen.I really hope Doug Pederson didn't learn clock management skills from Andy Reid. Still terrible.
Was that Andy or Doug? I thought Andy managed the game?Just thinking that, holy crap. Slowest 'hurry up' drive I've ever seen.Over a 5 minute drive. Would have been perfect, if they weren't down by TWO touchdowns.I really hope Doug Pederson didn't learn clock management skills from Andy Reid. Still terrible.
