*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (4 Viewers)

According to Didinger on 94, agent Tom Condon precipitated this trade. Obviously after the events of the spring, it's no secret Bradford didn't want to be here. So, I'm ecstatic!! Good riddance you stiff. If he can't finally have a winning record with the Vikings, then he really will go down as a bust.

I don't know what this has to do with Sam, or how this trade has anything to do with his character or if you like/don't like him.  He did everything right this offseason once he came back to the team, so not sure why any of this has any bearing on it.

He should have a winning record with them but I have no clue how ANYONE can learn a playbook in 7 days and start at QB for a new team.  Trying to think of past historical examples of this.

If you thought the Eagles were 9-7/8-8 with Bradford....I don't see how you can think they're going to drop down to 3-13/4-12/5-11.

The mantra of this team regardless of the QB playing has (IMO) play bend but not break D that pushes for turnovers, quality special team play and a heavy run/high % passing game to TEs and WRs.  To that, I think that Wentz's physical abilitites will negate Bradford's experience and it'll be a (more or less....I do think there will be a slight downtick in QB effectiveness) wash.

Like was mentioned before, A "wash" from a solid starting NFL QB to a rookie who hasn't played a snap and never played above div 2?  Look I like Wentz but let's not get crazy.  I think this takes us from 8 wins to 5.  That's substantial.

Team probably loses a few more games this season but weren't winning anything this season anyway. Gives the rookie a full season of being thrown to the wolves and getting real game experience. Makes me more interested in watching this season.

I'm surprised at Carson starting week 1. I figured they'd give him some time to fully heal and to get some more reps.

But hey this season sure got exciting fast.  :excited:

Now Chase is pissed...

A source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo that Chase Daniel is "not happy" the Eagles plan to start Carson Wentz (ribs) when healthy.

Despite barely playing in the preseason, the Eagles want to go with Wentz once he's recovered from his ribs injury, which could be as soon as Week 1. While we understand Daniel's frustration, he did nothing to help himself in August by turning in poor preseason performance after poor preseason performance. A career backup, Daniel will resume his usual role when Wentz gets back.

I'm gonna give the coaches the benefit of the doubt here that they've seen enough of Carson to think he's ready.  They said all offseason they wouldn't rush him, but clearly they think he's ready to go.

I'm glad I held off on that Bradford jersey.  That was a close one.

I don't think its an O that's designed to make a QB a superstar. I don't think it's a O where the QB has to be a gamechanger....or be the sole position that wins games for them.  Yes.....Bradford is the seasoned professional and knows and understands the pace of the game and the quality of ability that NFL D's have.....but I just don't know what Bradford was going to do in this O that gives them a 3+ game edge that Wentz won't be able to do....particularly as the season goes on and he begins to start to be accustomed to the pace/feel of the NFL.

I'm certainly not expecting them to remotely compete for the Conference Championship.  I think they're a default Division contender (where 9-7 could get it) simply because the Div. is so average......but I do expect them to still be competitive in just about every game this year and have a chance to win the Div.

At any rate, I liked Bradford....but Howie nailed this move.  It's nice to see them with a 1 next year.  MIN also made a good move in this situation, but a dream scenario would be A) PHI winning the div(even with an 8-8/9-7 record) and B) MIN falling short and ending up with a early-mid teens pick.  Be awesome if PHI had a higher pick with the MIN pick then they would with their own.

Relevance to what I posted?  Jeez even when I agree with you you find a way to throw a jab in.

And it would have been free... you could have used it as a kitchen rag or something.

I think that's a little far fetched to say we'll win more games then the Vikings will this year.  It's very fair to say that this move takes us closer to a Super Bowl.  Lose now, 'trust the process" (we're all too familiar with that saying).  Just personally as a fan it's tough to get as excited about a year we know will suck, and I was excited to see what we could do this year in this division.  I'm sure it'll wear off soon and will be excited to watch Wentz develop.

It's one of the most frustrating things in sports is that most arguments of debates never have a chance to get settled.  We'll never ever know how we would have done with Sam this year, so at the end of the day everything is speculation.

Howard Eskin‏ @howardeskin

QB Sam Bradford didn't waste any time About 2 land in Minnesota getting ready to play w #Vikings . Was told he's happy @SportsRadioWIP

 Couldn't get out fast enough, sounds like his bags had been packed and ready to go. Seeya Sam. :bye:
When you have a week to learn your 3rd playbook in 4 months, you get there as fast as you possibly can.

If you could go from getting booed at your first INT, fans screaming for your backups name, and having a likely losing record.... to a playoff team and city who will welcome you and hope you're their saviour, I don't think any of you would not be smiling.

Do they seed the draft by record or playoffs? I thought WAS had a later pick last year than teams with better records because they won the NFC East?

No you're right its based on how you do in the playoffs over your record (if both teams make it).  I guess I just see no shot at us winning the division this year now.  20% shot before, 5% shot now.

LOVE ME SOME HOWIE!
Bet the Vikings went into this discussion thinking "Everyone agrees? We'll offer a fourth?" And came out thinking "Where's my wallet?"

The 4th turns into a 3rd if the Vikes make the NFC title game and a 2nd if they make the Super Bowl.

I think it's a great trade for both. We recoup draft picks and have the #2 pick ready to go and they get a starting QB that looked pretty good the last 6 months. I see it as a win-win.

Yep... but we need to hope it stays a 4th.  Them turning it into a 2nd or 3rd means our 1st we get from them drops huge.

It was more like a group think   Or  A bunch of chiefs discussing a recipe

One says  " While whats say we lowball em"

Another says   Lets bluff, and say were here to talk about a WR

Finally one guy starts talking..

keep your hands on your wallet at all times

But no we cant just lowball em  What if their offended?

WR  Do you know who we have?   Think they doubt AP too?

The fact is, we go in thinking were gonna rip em off?  Their gonna be gigglin like school girls discussing this trade in the afternoon

Needless to say they went with their first thought, which entailed a lowball offer

Well offer:

Patterson and a 7th from 2018

       for

Sam and a 5th from 2017

Philly responds   Look we know your here about a QB   We got plenty of non NFL WR's already

Would ya consider:

AP w/ two 1st round picks in consecutive yrs

for

Sam and a 4th

Woah says Minny   You need to leave AP out of this deal..

Philly responds done, but were taking back our 4th..

Haha I consider 5% pretty much 'no shot'.  I guess there's always a crazy chance of a miracle.

That was a long story.

Also, the way it ended would be 2 1st rounders in consecutive years... we got one :P

I think you got excellent value on the trade and if I was a fan....I would be happy.  You guys were not winning the division this year with or without Bradford.  Play the kid, Get a good draft pick and score another for next year with the trade.

we dont get our own first rounder next year though.

People said PHI didn't have a QB plan, but lends credence to the straightforward, face value proposition that PHI wouldn't have re-upped Bradford and may not have acquired Daniel if they had known they would be able to trade up to #2 for Wentz. Also, just BECAUSE they had already done that, didn't necessarily make it a mistake to move up for Wentz, if he becomes a franchise QB. Recouping draft capital and getting cap relief is a nice and unexpected reversal of the heavy front office criticism.

The first we get from them is going to be in the 20's. We have to accept that. So we can root against them all we want, they'll probably be in the 9-7, 10-6 area as long as they don't ask Sam to win them games.  So if they goto the NFC champ or SB, hey more power to them.

This was about getting back a 1st while still having our future QB play this year.  Howie is hitting on all cylinders man. Now Wentz needs to be good for the next 10-15 years.  :P

100% agreed. I'd toss a 3rd or a 4th back Minny's way to get that done, but the bust rate difference between 1st-rounders and everyone else is so huge that if Howie couldn't get that, I'd just shrug my shoulders and say we might as well move forward with what we've got.
I cannot believe the 4th wound up being on the wrong side of my proposed trade offer. :lmao:

If Wentz winds up panning out, 15 years from now there's gonna be a bronze statue of Howie outside the Birds' new stadium.

You'd be okay with them winning a superbowl and our 1st rounder being pick #32?  I'd rather them not and it be early 20s.  Though the 2nd would be nice.

I'd be fine wherever it lands because it's a first again.  If they win the super bowl, that 4th in 18 becomes a 2nd. Sweet!

Yes!

I'm positive that he did because he tried to get the Browns to trade for Bradford when he was Cleveland's head coach and then I'm sure he played a role in getting Sam to Philly.

When he got to Cleveland he kept yammering on and on about his close relationship with Bradford and how it took time for him to learn the WC offense and that Sam was 'just' starting to catch on before he left St. Louis to take the Cleveland job.

He loves Sam Bradford and the more I think about it, this 'could' work out for Minnesota because Norv's system has WC aspects, quite a few because, well....  Just say, this 'could' work if Sam stays healthy.

He did.

http://www.startribune.com/craig-vikings-didn-t-mortgage-future-in-getting-sam-bradford/392259091/

... The negotiations began Friday night and intensified — but only because of new tight ends coach Pat Shurmur, who coached Bradford in St. Louis and in Philadelphia. It was Shurmur who convinced the organization that Bradford had the intelligence and the work ethic to learn Norv Turner’s offense quickly.

The tentative plan heading into Monday’s practice is to start Shaun Hill in the Sept. 11 season opener at Tennessee. Bradford will be armed with a simplified portion of the offense in case Hill is injured. After that, the coaches will huddle to discuss starting Bradford in the Week 2 home opener against the Packers on “Sunday Night Football.”

Wow. In shock.  Not sure what to think.  We had no choice but to accept that but of course I'm sad to see him go.  I hate Chase though, hopefully Wentz is ready to rock after the bye.  It's too bad because the pick to cleveland is gonna be a good one.

Torn on weather we should cheer FOR or AGAINST Minnesota.  Anyone know the stipulations of the deal?  Do we want a better first rounder or to turn the 4th into a 2nd?
Completely agree. I think Bradford's rep to this point is largely unfair and that he has the tools to be a very good NFL QB. That said, with Wentz on the team there's no way the Eagles could turn this down.
