*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (6 Viewers)

I like everything that Wentz, Pederson and the staff have done so far, but I really don't think there's any chance that we win this game.  Such a step up in competition, 2 games of film on Wentz, just the ebb and flow of it all.

But 2-1 going in to the bye and Carson gets extra work in plus 2 winnable games after that is awesome.

I go back and forth. My biggest concern is our secondary and containing Antonio Brown. If we can somehow do that, we have a fighting chance. But the Steelers are a good team with a lot of weapons. The defense needs to step up big time, and the offense needs to move the ball and control the clock like they have been. I'm excited to watch this game, I'm cautiously optimistic, but if they put up a good fight and lose I'll be ok with it. As long as we don't get destroyed and embarrassed....

Just wanna see them competitive this week
I can't disagree. Quality opponent on both sides of the ball. While the talent is insufficient, for the first time in a long time I think the Eagles have the advantage in coaching in a top level matchup.

I wouldn't place that bet...but it wouldn't surprise me either. If the Eagles do win, the expectations for this year rise dramatically, and the Wentz mania will go off the charts.
Especially since there's the bye right after. 2 Straight weeks of over the top shenanigans if we win.

My homerism is getting the best of me.

Start wentz over winston this week?
it will likely be more fun for you, and there is no reason to think that the 2nd half won't require Pederson to keep the foot on the gas. I think Wentz is a better play, homerism out of it

NFL power rankings has the Steelers #1, Eagles #14 and the 2 teams we beat at #31 and #32.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000706332/article/nfl-power-rankings-week-3-redhot-steelers-claim-no-1-spot

With all the hype that Wentz is getting and people calling for Wentzsylvania, the Steelers have to be thinking about nothing else but kicking our butt.

I know peeps say that pre-season means nothing but we made the Steelers look pretty silly without Ben or Antonio playing.

I am about 50/50 in thinking we either get creamed by double digits or we miraculously pull an upset.

We have the formula to win by controlling the clock and playing solid defense.

I fear that if we fall behind by 14 we don't have the offense to regain the lead.

I do believe Wentz is a clutch QB but our WR's are far from clutch.
this is probably Lane Johnson's last game for awhile. I don't think our OL can control the line of scrimmage enough to allow us to play control the clock and rely on defense (real curious how Schwartz plans against the intermediate and deep passes). And i think Wentz has that ability to make those around him better. Yes our WRs aren't world beaters, but i don't think we are toast if we fall behind. there are stil holes in the Pitt secondary, the match up against their nickle back should be golden for any of the top 3 WRs. add in Burton and Sproles/Celek, and we don;t have a dominant weapon, but plenty of options

The more I think about this game the more I like their chances to win. They have Pittsburgh in a favorable spot.

While the Steelers will win games this season they aren't going undeafeated so I'm thinking this could be one of their losses. A sandwich game for them between home games against Cincy and KC, playing against a NFC opponent on the road has lesser meaning for their season in general. Combine that with a 2-0 start they're certainly not coming in desperate for a win. This is a prime spot for a letdown game. Add in the home crowd and a team riding big confidence I think they pull this out.

This could be a real coming out party for Wentz, facing the second worst passing defense in the league. They've given up 329 to Cousins then 366 to Dalton. While their run D is the complete opposite at ranking 2nd best. You have to assume the coaches know this and will focus on the passing game. If his WRs can hang on to a few passes -big caveat- he might have his best game yet and we're giddy for two weeks.

Eagles 27

Pitt 17

Carson goes for 300 and 2tds, 1 Eagles defensive TD.

That would be amazing @Billy Bats...I'll just take a close game one way or the other.  I want to know if we can hang with a team and offense like they have.
No doubt and you're right with wondering about hanging with them. I believe our offense can, I think its up to the defense to stop them for the win. Pitt has only given up 2 sacks this season, big key and test for our front seven they need to get to that big goof on Sunday.

We need to start out well.  Don't see us making a big comeback
Why not? If the Eagles are down then they're throwing more against the 2nd worst pass defense in the league. Defense is most important, need the stops then the hold if they get a lead.

If they win the game, I don't care how they do it.  Just saying putting the pressure on Wentz to score multiple times in a time crunch most likely won't work out well for us.  Either way it's great for his development though

I guess as a defense they've given up the 2nd most passing yards?  Listening to 97.5 this morning, they had a couple guys from Pro Football Focus on to dissect the match ups.  They have the PIT corners as top-12 in the league.  Tough passing match up.

On a positive note, they rank Wentz as the #1 QB in the NFL through 2 games.

Yes, I'm probably stating that wrong but by yardage the 2nd worst. Curious to know how they have them top 12 at CB, they give any info on their ranking? (edit: reading more, only 1 TD given up through the air, tough red zone D)

FBG has Eagles with a neutral passing matchup.

They're using "next gen" stats to break down every player in the league.  Every play is graded somehow.  I've heard of PFF but never went to their website (lunch time today for sure!).  Chris Collinsworth owns the site.  They gave some examples on how they grade the plays - a 4 yd run by Mathews on 3rd and 2 where he breaks a tackle is graded higher than a 4 yard run on 3rd and 7.  Anyway, Wentz was our top player as well as the top QB.  However they grade CBs, PIT has a some good ones.

Ah these damn kids and their newfangled stats. Haha yea have heard that site is awesome but info overload for me. I'm sticking with old school analysis and gambling points of view with the home dog.

The steelers have given up alot of yards on defense this year but have only given up 16 points to both opponents.  And both TDs came petty late in the 4th quarter of both game along with a lot of the yardage IIRC.  Plus the steelers are doing well on 3rd down conversions, currently 3rd in the league at ~26%.  So far,  the steelers D is improved from previous seasons in those important start categories.

It wouldn't shock me if the Steelers lose, but i think the eagles D will have to keep the score down rather than expecting wentz to get in a shootout with the steelers.

Yup Steelers have that bend but don't break defense.  They'll give up yards but not necessarily a ton of points.  If you can control Shazier (who is an absolute animal), you have a good chance.  Isn't the line pretty close?  Makes me think that Vegas believes these teams aren't that far off.  But that is the current state of the NFL

I will be shocked if we win the game.  Ben and AB are on another level and Williams looks like a stud...their going to be very hared to slow down.

AB was limited last week.  It is possible.  I see it the way Billy Bats does and I'm a Steelers fan.  I think it's a trap game and I'm not even convinced the Steelers are that much better of a team than the Eagles.  Forget power rankings or preseason rankings.  I'm looking at what my eyes tell me from watching both teams play for 2 weeks.

Agree 100%. Good post, but I like Fred's a little better. ;)

And conversely on 3rd down conversions, Eagles offense is struggling bad at 26%. Another big point of the game.

Ertz ruled out for Sunday. Kendricks should be good to go.

#PITvsPHI Status Report: OUT: Ertz (rib), McKelvin (hamstring), Seumalo (pec). Questionable: LB Mychal Kendricks (nose, quadricep)

I think this is a back-down-to-earth game, and possibly very ugly. More worried about how they bounce back, post-bye, at Detroit.

34-10, including 3 Wentz INTs.

Not too far off what I envision. Though I wouldn't mind 3 picks at all - if the Birds get down early and he's taking some aggressive shots to try to dig them out of the hole. It'd certainly be a welcome contrast to the Chip/Sam "two-yard flare pass on 3rd-and-18" show last year.

Heading into the bye 2-1 with no major injuries would be fine by me.

Eagles are still feeling that new coach high and are gelling from 2 easy wins. They ride that high one more game against one of the best teams in the league who may not be fully up for a road NFC late Sunday game after a hard fought W over a hated division rival.

Eagles 30 Steelers 20

Vegas doesn't care how far apart the teams are.  They care how far apart the betting public believes the teams are.

Agreed the first line tells you a little about how Vegas feels the betting will go then its adjust to how the betting is going. I don't know anyone who makes their living just off of football bets they make so where the line moves means nothing to to me and I'm one of these dumb gamblers

Does anyone know if there is a way to stream this game live online? I live in South Florida and it's not being televised here.

Just stopping by to eat some crow before the stillers game.  I haven't posted here since the offseason but I've been lurking and I have to admit that my enthusiasm for the team is back.  I've got to give Howie credit where credit is due.  He got his guy in Wentz.  It was a ballsy move and it is paying off big time.  I really wanted them to be patient with chipper, who I thought did enough as a HC, but I couldn't be happier with the current state of the team and the promise of better times with Wentz at the helm.

Can they pull off a win this week?  I'm not sure, but I thought we could staring 0-3 into the bye just a month ago so what do I know.  Take care of the football, try to capitalize with 7 in the red zone, and most of all keep letting the kid have fun out there.  Go birds!

Alright...I'm worried.

I mean, the Skins have enough to worry about in their own house, without worrying about anyone else. We look like crap most of the time.

But the Eagles have got my attention, wow.

I'm still trying to comprehend how we held that Steelers offense to 3 points.  It's absolutely amazing how 1 coach has been able to totally turn around our defense that fast.
