Official 2016 Pittsburgh Steelers Thread (1 Viewer)

Says he's not smoking, but also sounds a bit immature still. He won't apologize for lying to his teammates because they're all grown men?  What kind of reason is that?  Hope that he stays clean and that enough time with the team will turn him into a better teammate.
This guy is killing me.  I can only dream about what that offense would look like with Green over the middle and Martavis opposite Antonio with Coates/Rogers in the slot and in 4 wide sets.  I hope we get to see it before someone else gets hurt, leaves the team, retires, etc.  They would be the perfect offense with another top tier receiver and a TE that could be an intermediate/deep threat.  How do you stop that?  Line is healthy and playing great, Ben is still in his prime, albeit at the tail end of it, Bell is dominating.  There's literally no way you could scheme to cover everyone.  Bryant would be facing single-man coverage on every snap and you couldn't possibly stack the box to slow Bell down.  God Almighty, it could be like nothing we've seen in the NFL.  I'm just running out of hope that we'll ever see this battle station fully operational and it's a shame, not just to Steelers fans, but (to a lesser extent) football fans in general.

In the clip he says "I'm sorry from the bottom of his heart, I've learned from his mistakes, and I hope you can forgive me..."

Weather has affected Sunday's slate of NFL Divisional Round games.

The league announced Friday it has pushed back the start time for Sunday's Pittsburgh Steelers-Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium from 1:05 p.m. EST to 8:20 p.m. EST due to public safety concerns in light of a forecasted storm. The matchup will be broadcast on NBC.

The decision to make the time change was made in consultation with state and local officials as well as both teams, the league added.

The Green Bay Packers-Dallas Cowboys game will still be played at 4:40 p.m. EST on Sunday.

The line has moved to the point where it's now a pick 'em. I'm trying real hard not to be overconfident but I really like our chances tomorrow.

New England looked eminently beatable today. Hopefully the Steelers aren't looking ahead like I am...
I'm not convinced anybody is "eminently beatable" given Pittsburgh's frustrating tendency to play to the level of any opponent.

I hope they come out firing though...a lead would do wonders for that defense.

The Dupree hit on Matt Moore, just ever so close to NOT being illegal but completely unintentional, should serve as sort of a tone setting moment for the Steelers defense. They need to adopt a menacing brutality to go with schematic discilpine and solid technique to keep advancing to play in and win the Super Bowl. Laying lumber and consistent hard hitting play build a deserved reputation that causes a sort of intimidation factor which is important when you seek to be the big bad Champs. Not like Mike Mitchell has been doing it but more like Bug Bud's hit.  That hit was reminiscent of James Harrison's routine style of play several + years ago when the D was tops in the league as well as "just plain mean & nasty" Greg Lloyd was menacing in the early to mid 90's. Here we go!

I was wrong in my criticism of Mitchell.  I just read this Ron Cook piece about him http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/ron-cook/2017/01/15/ron-cook-mike-mitchell-pittsburgh-steelers-safety-big-hits/stories/201701150103 and apparently that hard hitting physicality is also being delivered by Mike Mitchell.   What I poorly referenced initially was what I think are his ill timed shenanigans.  Though I do think maybe earlier in the season he may have drawn unnecessary roughness calls that I found frustrating.  Regardless of the accuracy of my memory, if other more trusted and trained eyes think Mike Mitchell is effectively contributing towards that legal intimidation factor to which I am raising, then kudos deserve to go to Mike Mitchell.

Pittsburgh has won 8 in a row now.  I think we can put to rest the whole "playing to the level of their opponent".  They're just a formidable team right now playing at a high level.  With that said, in order to win the Super bowl they will need to win in KC, then NE and then beat a high powered offense in the super bowl.  This is going to be an extremely tough road to a championship

Seeing KC back to - 2 at the Vegas books after sitting at - 1 most of yesterday.

Patriots can be had. Obviously Brady is excellent but their defense is mediocre and without Gronk, they don't present as many mismatches on offense. Our linebackers have enough speed to neutralize Lewis. It'll be a close game if we can scheme to limit the quick outs to their receivers and keep them from sawing off 7-10 yards per play without Brady taking any hits.

Of course, we have to get through KC first and that's no small task.

Gonna be busy hosting a party during the game so won't be around in this or the game thread.   Feeling confident but KC at KC is tough.

Feeling a 27-23 victory!   :banned:

Mitchell problem is he always tries a kill shot, so there are times he probably shouldn't at it costs the team

Hope they realize how lucky this team was.   One penalty and this game would have gone to OT (probably).  Even though the Steelers dominated most of the game until they hit the 25 yard line.

The team that won tonight has no chance against the Patriots if they had one to begin with

Isn't it great to have a reliable field goal kicker.   :towelwave:

Did you watch the Patriots last night?  They're very beatable.  Ben has to play much, much better but I don't think it's possible for him to play worse.

Hell yes the Steelers have a chance next week. Halfway decent red zone execution and this was a 20 point game. Defense is vastly improved and there's no answer for Bell. If anyone can scheme to stop him, it's Belichick but I don't know if the Pats defense has the horses to bottle him up all game.

I think we have more than a punchers' chance. Will probably be a 6-7 point spread but this is not the best Patriots team we've seen. They're good, and better than that at home, but no Gronk is a major factor. I think it will be close.

Oh yeah I watched Saturday.  If Houston had an actual quarterback they might have beat the Patriots.  But again the Steelers need to punish Brady like the Texans did yesterday and for god sake get some touchdowns in the red zone.  This FG #### isn't going to cut it.

They do have a better chance of winning this game then other playoff games against the Pats I think

Oh, and I GUARANTEE that in their heart or hearts, NE fans did not want to see the Steelers rolling in next week.
No question about it.

The only reason I wanted to see the Steelers win today was to watch them take out New England in Foxborough.  KC isn't capable of that.  The Steelers will win the game outright, cannot believe they are getting 6.

Curious what's up with Bennett.  Take away both of his TEs. . . ?  Starting to run low on above average weapons.  Not that Beiber, I mean Brady, doesn't still have playmakers, but the wounded keep piling up.  Oh well, Brilliant Bill will probably just stick some OLB in there at TE to catch two TDs.  Isn't that about the AFCCG script?

Jee-bus.  I hope I never read another interview by Bryant again.  Yeah.  Gained 10 pounds of beer muscle, I bet.  "I was so stuck on L.A. Here, there’s not much to do, I don’t go to the Strip that much, mainly just spending time with my girl and my dog."  Sure man, you gonna move to Vegas to clean up your life and get away from it all.  He says that was the hardest part of his suspension.  Sounds lille a real bright guy.

Please please please, I don't care what transpires in the next game or two, but please reward/extend Mike Munchak in the off-season. And you can include a title boost to the pay raise.

Tomlin has to be less than thrilled at Antonio streaming live from the locker room after the game. Especially as he's talking about not providing bulletin board material while he's inadvertently doing it.

I know I sound like the grouchy old neighbor yelling at the kids to stay off of his lawn but AB should be fined for some of his shenanigans.  Instead Tomlinson defends them.

On the other hand I am not a big believer of the bulletin board crap.  I think that stuff ceases to matter at kickoff.

Kudos to the special teams.  You just know that they had a chip on their shoulder over the coverage that they would not be able to stop Hill.  Not only did they stop him, they gave him a beating.  They need to continue that intensity next week against Lewis.  And talk about having a clutch kicker.  So far removed from when we traded for that scrub kicker from Jacksonville.

This is what won them the game (and almost lost it too. WTF #24?).  Putting some of the starters on coverage teams to seek and destroy Hill kept the field flipped for most of the game, that early kick being the main exception.  They really tightened the screws on Kelce too.

The INT in the EZ was maddening.  Just ridiculous for Ben to audible there, given that Bell had been making the Chiefs' D his kitty that drive.  They can't just settle for FGs next week, that's for sure, but I'll give the Chiefs a bit of credit.  That game was sort of their "thing" all year.  Get timely TOs and don't surrender TDs.

Tomlin would likely prefer not to have to deal with the hassles such as AB broadcasting the locker room activity and post game address on Facebook live. But he can handle it.  ABs production and game impact is worth it. And we fans get something to watch. It's turning into a reality show before our eyes.   The AB brand keeps exploding & Tomlin benefits from being able to lead the team through all distractions on the way to a victory.

If only we could get Green back by the next game. He could be the difference maker in the red zone that we need.  But, given a week to work it out, Haley might be able to figure out our red zone woes.

On the 1st drive when Bell had scorched the Chiefs and then on 2nd and 2 and 3rd and 2 we threw the ball I almost cried. Wth, he was destroying them, just get the 1st down!!

We can't afford any mistakes against NE and we NEED to hit Brady. Hard and often. Even if it's just after the throw, crush him. I'd be fine with one 15 yard penalty as long as Brady was crushed in the process. He starts to make mistakes when he gets hit a lot.

And the lead story on ESPN.com is "Brown video shows Tomlin's disdain for Patriots."

Video has been removed from Brown's page.  Going to be some pissed off people in that locker room.  I wonder what happens if it's Cobi Hamilton and not AB that does this.

:goodposting:

This game could go either way. I think if they play 10 times, I see it going 6-4... MAYBE 7-3 but that's doubtful. Should be a fantastic game. Dion Lewis will be an interesting X factor for the NE offense.  New England has a slightly superior secondary, but both are excellent vs WR. Interestingly Pitt has proven fairly weak vs RB, allowing 18TD and 4.13ypc vs NE's 8TD and 3.62ypc. Hopefully this offsets the Bell factor a bit.

If you've not seen the video, it's funny. IF that's any indicator, Antonio loves him some him.... dude was preening and posing like a 13yo girl (see avatar).   That said, he's the best WR in the NFL, so I guess he's earned that right.

I certainly hope not. He has no right and Tomlin should fine him bigly.

No doubt he does.  However, his workout regimen is maniacal and he sets a great example for the young players on this team with his effort on the practice field.  A weird dichotomy, but it's a "take the good with the bad" situation (see also : 15 yard UC penalties for post-TD twerking.)  That's why he likely won't get more than a wrist slap for this, I'm sure Tomlin wants to let his players be themselves, which is why he has a rep as a players' coach, but he can't be too happy about his post-game speech being aired live.  He had to think there was a level of sanctity that was violated by this.

ESPN wants to pimp the video into a story of how Tomlin has disdain for the Patriots ...

I don't think people have a problem with Tomlins comments. It's locker room talk.

... but I think the video shows more of a lack of respect some of the players have for their coach.

Hard to imagine NE / GB players behind lockers on their phones while the coach is giving his post-game.

Coach specifically says "lets stay off social media" so as not give bulletin board material ... Brown says "f that s" and lets his phone stream continue as he counts his 40k views / followers.

As much as I disagree with Terry Bradshaw ... this show of disrespect somewhat reinforces his criticism of Tomlin.

I don't think it does that at all.  TB clarified his remarks to say that he thinks Tomlin is a good leader and motivator (which is supposedly what he meant by "cheerleader",) implying that Terry thinks he's not a great in-game or Xs and Os coach.  This incident would fall under the former category, and thus is the opposite of what (I think) Bradshaw was saying.

Bradshaw makes his living now playing a dumb hick that says outrageous stuff; I don't think that anything that he says should be taken very seriously at this point in time, honestly.

Totally agree.  Even with that, I don't think Bradshaw insinuated at any point that he doesn't have the respect of his players or control of the locker room.

I think what the video clearly shows is that AB wasn't even listening enough to even say "F that".    He was so caught up in the victory he wasn't paying attention to anyone but himself.

Yep.  Diva WR, but he's so damn good you just kind of have to deal with that.

Odd to hear criticism of Tomlin. Guy strikes me as a bit of a #####, but aren't most good coaches? I don't think anyone is arguing he's on BB's level, but I'd wager well over half the NFL would gladly take him if he was interested.... maybe 70%.

One of the hallmarks of this thread is #####ing about Tomlin. Guy is terrible and only won with Cowher's players.
Been to the SB twice, never had a losing season, consistently beats divisional rivals. He has his blemishes but who would you ever replace him with that isn't named Belichick?

Not that I'm going to complain but how the hell did Leveon fall to us in the 2nd round?  How did teams miss so badly on this guy?  Was it his running style that turned people off?
