Good luck. I can't imagine how quickly mold could get in with the heat and humidity of Houston.
Is it all your company in the building? That's a fair amount of footage.

I really have no idea how high up I am, other than being told we are. How does one find out?

 
Irma is scaring the #### out of me here in Tampa.  Cleaning out some areas of the house for the stuff out on the lanai.  I have panels for all windows good to Cat. 3.  Hopefully I won't need them, but I am ready.  We will head north if it looks like we need to.  Yikes.

County web map usually has a topo contour layer that will get you pretty close.  It's also on all DFIRMs (floodplain maps)

Yes, it's our American corporate headquarters. I'm officed in a much smaller computing center next door, and haven't heard the state of my building, just of the main campus parts. Mine is hopefully hardened against floods given the amount of computing in it. And they are still online, so I'm hopeful.

 
In Miami alone, there are about 25 tower construction cranes that can withstand up to 145 mph winds. But not category 5. Residents being advised to evacuate buildings nearby if Irma hits, or stay in an interior room.

Right there in the energy corridor? Are all those buildings flooded?

Took me forever to go from Katy to Dairy Ashford and Westheimer today for a root canal. No north-south routes from Grand Parkway in past the Tollway. Everyone taking 99 to West Park 

 
I just read that duct taping windows does nothing.  Don't bother.

Also, close interior doors in your house.

@GregR, i really appreciate your ongoing commentary from someone "on the ground." I hope you and your family made it through this OK.

And your words of advice for Irma certainly take on added meaning. You're doing good work for the FBG community.

For what it's worth I'm at a local bar and everyone isn't overly worried.  Everyone is talking about it and obviously everyone has taken procaitions.  

Im a northerner though.... I'm out of here

A bit torn on what to do, if this turns into the Carolinas instead of underneath Florida, seems like it could be very shaky even for inland Virginia.  The models aren't going to tell the whole story by the time I leave (6 am Thursday morning)

No kidding. I'll take tornado warnings over hurricane warnings any day. Tornadoes only affect a small area.

I'm good on trees and live in one of the "highest" areas in Debary (FWIW).  I don't want to be without power for a week though.  That's the sort of thing that would drive me away before water or wind.

I feel pretty lucky having to dodge an occasional twister here in the midwest. Can't imagine sustained tornado winds for hours. Thoughts are with everyone in the path of this. Be safe.

Well if it goes the way some of the models are predicting I can almost guarantee you will be without power for several days.We were without for 4 days when Charlie came through.

 
Not to make light but, wow.

One of my wife's step/half/whatever aunts is on a "girl's trip" right now...in Puerto Rico.  They left YESTERDAY. 

She posted pics of her at an outdoor bar while they're are boarding up windows behind her.

Not sure if she's dumb or bad ###.

A lot of them probably are, but not all to the same degree I don't think. There are some other buildings in the complex, and another further away, that they are talking about needing 2 weeks until they can reopen.

For hour 111, the pressure is crazy low, but the wind speeds are not nearly as high as I would have expected with that low of a pressure.

I wish you all a safe weekend and hope Irma goes out to sea or dissipates.  Just saw some of these same people in panic mode today, because hurricanes are not a laughing matter.  Neither are blizzards though.   :thumbup:

 
my sister lives on st john. :mellow:   gonna be hell on earth there.  hopefully, her and her kids make it through unscathed.  scary ####.

Current wind speeds are significantly higher and the pressure is not as low as this model predicts.  Current pressure is 916 mb with max wind speeds at 160 knotts (~185 mph).  The model posted by culdeus shows a forecasted (@ hour 111 with landfall at the southern tip of FL) pressure of 885 mb but wind speeds at 105 knotts (~120 mph).

 
So best case scenario is if this pulls up short of Florida's east coast and heads for cooler waters yeah?  What if this thing gets into the gulf, worse right?  Oof

 
Latest models showing an Eastern shift.  Not an offshore shift, but so it will ride the entire way up the east coast from Florida to Maryland.  monkaS

Horrible posting. You really took the time to find all those posts?

This is the first hurricane I've experienced in the almost 9 years living in FL. Meanwhile, my old state of NJ has been hit with 2 hurricanes and several snowstorms. 

So in summary.....I win. Enjoy ####ty Michigan.
