yep. stick a fork in them, they're done. They should be sellers but they probably won't be.
In all honesty this is probably a good thing for the team long term. They never had the talent to seriously contend this year. They need to be sellers. Here’s hoping they lose every game for the next week! The Pirates managed to drop 5 games back in the standings over a 9 game stretch. That is pretty impressive!
While I agree there is no point in being buyers this season there is little reason for optimism for next year or anytime. They may catch lightning in a bottle: a year where just everything breaks good for them, but as long a Nutting owns this team they are doomed for mediocrity or worse. Aside for a couple of seasons the last 25 years has been the same story for this team.In all honesty this is probably a good thing for the team long term. Who do the Dodgers want that badly lol?KiddLattimer said:If they can pull off some of the prospects rumored from the Dodgers they'd be nuts not to take it. 2 or 3 of Lux, May, Ruiz and Smith would be a hell of a haul.
Of course it could just be sports writer nonsense too
Would help if I included the player name huh?Who do the Dodgers want that badly lol?
If that’s on the table for Vazquez, I would be ecstatic. Lux has been tearing the cover off the ball but not sure where he fits with the Dodgers. It’s great to see the Pirates in a free fall. They’re certain to be sellers nowKiddLattimer said:Would help if I included the player name huh?
Supposedly that's the rumor for Vazquez. Value spiked because he's so underpaid for 4y
I only care about what their management thinks and in the past they’ve refused to admit when they’re not serious contenders. Were there really people thinking this team should be anything but sellers?
They need a new owner. Nothing else matters IMO.Close to "worst team in baseball" territory here. I hope they sell anything and everything at the deadline. Just hit the restart button.
The Brewers have reached a deal to acquire right-hander Jordan Lylesfrom the division-rival Pirates, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). Milwaukee will send Double-A right-hander Cody Ponce to Pittsburgh in return, tweets Robert Murray of The Athletic.
Nobody is dumb enough to pay that type of haul...................except for the Pirates. They need to get a haul similar to what they gave up for Archer ....
I still cannot believe they made that trade. They give up Cutch and Cole and THEN decide this is the year to make an all-in move at the deadline?!? Not the years they were actually competitive, but the year they go on a fluky win streak amid fan protests.Nobody is dumb enough to pay that type of haul...................except for the Pirates.
My bet is they are blaming their pathetic showing this season on injuries. Yes they were hit hard but the team still sucks badly. The supposed strength was the pitching and it just isn't very good. The odds of this team being any good in the next couple of seasons is close to zero.So Bucs had all of these vet expiring pieces to trade and one big chip and all they do is get international money and a player to be named later for Dickerson??
Like does NH think this team can compete next season? Not like they will add any meaningful pieces. They are in a rebuild mode and ####ed it up last year with the archer trade. Now there is no direction or identity. I wonder what the offers were that he turned down. This is the worst ownership/front office combo in sports, save MAYBE the redskins, but at least they try.
It’s possible in the next 20 years they have a playoff team. Anything is possible. I was almost struck by lightning once.My bet is they are blaming their pathetic showing this season on injuries. The news just keeps getting worse for this team.McBokonon said:Taillon's getting Tommy John surgery and missing 2020.
We once dreamed of a staff of Cole, Glasnow and Taillon. How far things have fallen. So in yesterday's debacle Trevor Williams, arguably the "ace" of this staff, gives up 8 runs, all earned, on 6 hits (3 HRs), 3 BBs in 2 innings. His ERA is now 5.65
Over the weekend Huntington was trying to say the Pirates starting pitching can compete next season, IF
they can fix Musgrove, Williams, AND Archer
Brault pitches likes he did for a 4 or 5 game stretch this year over the course of an entire season
Keller can pitch to the potential he showed in the minors
PLUS they have Kuhl coming back from Tommy John surgery (with his impressive 4.37 lifetime ERA)
they might be able to pick up an aging veteran pitcher or two and turn him around like they did with JA Happ
THIS is his plan for 2020... Ay Caramba
.
The Pirates organization has proven time and again that they are unable to develop young pitching talent. Everyone involved in that aspect of the organization needs to go, starting with Ray Searage. He had a few old veterans that he turned around a few years ago but he has been a disaster since.fred_1_15301 said:We once dreamed of a staff of Cole, Glasnow and Taillon. How far things have fallen.
Agreed. Searage has no clue how to adapt. He can do wonders for pitchers who fit into his program. However, he has no clue how to adapt when a pitcher may not fit. Didn't he try to turn Cole into a pitch-to-contact pitcher. What an idiot. The whole organization from top to bottom is completely incompetent. Look at these other small market teams that remain competitive every year. The Pirates organization has proven time and again that they are unable to develop young pitching talent. Pittsburgh Pirates all-star pitcher Felipe Vazquez was arrested this morning in Pennsylvania on some truly disturbing charges including solicitation of a 13-year-old girl.
The 28-year-old closer -- considered one of the best pitchers in baseball -- was taken into custody in Pittsburgh stemming from an arrest warrant out of Florida.
Officials say they were investigating allegations Vasquez had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl in Lee County, Florida.
According to officials, the girl, now 15 years old, WAS continuing to have a relationship with Vasquez and had received a video in July from the MLB star performing a "sex act."
Officials say Vasquez also sent the girl text messages suggesting they would meet for sex after the MLB season ended.
Several electronic devices were seized from Vasquez's apartment in Pittsburgh during the investigation.
Officials say Vasquez was arrested on 1 count of "computer pornography - solicitation of a child" and 1 count of "providing obscene material to minors."
Officials say more charges could follow depending on what they find in the continuing investigation.
Vasquez is a 2-time All-Star who was having a great season for the Pirates in 2019. He currently has a 1.65 E.R.A., 28 saves and 90 strikeouts. He signed a 4-year, $22.5 million contract in 2018.
Well, Crick will be happier now.Should have traded him while they could:
The good news is that contract will likely be invalidated and Nutting can put all of that money he is saving for bringing in new talent.
so we have that going for us which is niceWell, Crick will be happier now.
Or just put it in his pocketShould have traded him while they could:

You would think all these moves would be grounds to fire the GM. But nobody really cares.Cole is an absolute stud. Nice return there.
Maybe if they kept the team together last year and made a move or two, they could have contended.
Instead they are sellers pre-season and then trade their best prospects for a pitcher on the downswing. Brilliant.
Meadows at .290 with 32 hr and 88rbi.
Glasnow 6-1 in 10 starts with 65 strikeouts and a 2.03 era.
Baz 3-2 in 17 starts with a 2.99 era and 87 strikeouts at A level
WHAT A JOKE
When I said “nobody really cares”, I wasn’t talking about the fans. I was talking about the people who could/should hold NH accountable.Godsbrother said:The fans care (yes there are a still a few of us left) but Nutting doesn’t give a crap about winning.
i used to go to 15 games a year and even more when I was younger but I haven’t bought a ticket in three years. I’ve given up hope
With Bochy and Yost retiring, Hurdle would be the longest-tenured MLB manager.Encyclopedia Brown said:It was said on the Cubs broadcast that Hurdle says he will return in 2020.
So there's that.
I gave up on baseball weeks ago (after I got my 3rd place prize in fantasy). I had no idea about last night. That's actually an excellent consolation prize.Yep. Nutting not about to pay Hurdle money for sitting at home AND pay for a new manager.
Hey the Bucs eliminated the Cubs from the post-season last night so we have that going for us which is nice.
