***Official 2020 Michigan Football*** (1 Viewer)

They were terrible in the second half.  If you don't believe that, then you're a dumb homer.
Got a little conservative and fell asleep on defense with the tackling and lining up right.

Having said that...if Speight doesnt throw the dumb INT on the wheel route to open the second half, it was going to get ugly.

Missed the game again....was camping with the scouts this weekend....what is the meaning of Lewis' comment?  I'm exhausted and can't think :bag:

Getting a little worried about the run D.  Sparty gained a lot on the ground and I remember Colorado running quite a bit on us as well.

I don't think they got 100 yards did they?  I remember them throwing all over the place with Lewis out.  Then their QB went down and Michigan cruised.

They are fine. I think Colorado had 70 yards on the ground.

This was MSU's super bowl. They ran it on the first drive and then after UM went to sleep.

They lose to Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa...all on the road.  They lose to Wisconsin at home.

Indiana between OSU and Iowa is a trap game.  Penn State on the road and their first road game @ Rutgers round out the questionable games.
These questionable games have been brutal.

My biggest concern of the season was at QB.  Did JH just get magic in a can with Rudock?  The answer is no.  Wilton Speight (imo) is the best QB in the Big 10.  I think he's ahead of Rudock at this point and while he doesn't have Jake's rushing ability he does have "Big Ben" type elusiveness in the pocket.

It will be interesting to see how many more QB's the defense can knock out this year.  I think with the Hills injury they are at 9 qbs (injured/benched) this season.

Poor Sparty

Road night games are always sketchy.  Unless Michigan turns it over a bunch I don't see them losing, but you just never know in these games.

They aren't frauds. Michigan is a top 5 team. College football doesn't have the elite teams it often does, but in this year, Michigan is a top team.
They might be a top 5 team, but they aren't nearly as good as some of the fans think.  They are well-coached, they run a good scheme, they have one of the best defenses in CFB, but they lack the depth may other schools do...especially at the offensive skill positions.  I think Ohio State will beat them by two scores, but this is all a process.  Once Harbaugh gets an elite QB he can mold, and the athletes get better, then they are going to really roll.  This loss was really easy to see coming, they simply aren't ready yet.

Speight's progression has been impressive to watch.
Well, I felt bad when I hit "submit post" on this...figured it was a jinx.  I didn't (and still don't) expect them in the playoff in year two.  They have really good starters, but depth is not there to sustain, especially on offense and the offensive line is "ok", not elite.  They need a class or two more to get the depth necessary to go 60 minutes.  This was a game I had circled earlier in the year, but I expected them to win after the last few weeks.  Wish they could have performed better...way too many unforced mistakes.

Had a bad feeling about that one.   Don't have a good feeling against Buckeyes in 2 weeks either
The reality is Michigan probably had to beat OSU to make it to the playoffs anyways.   I doubt the committee would have given two bids to the Big10. This makes them know for sure they can not back into the playoffs.  Unlike Penn State and Ohio State, Michigan still controls their own destiny.  I doubt they are good enough to win at OSU, but it will be the biggest regular season game of the year.

Assuming they don't get a lot of injuries this is going to be a big year.  The offensive line is where they are going to show the most improvement and that will be the catalyst for everything they do on offense.  If they go 8-4 then the staff should just pack it up.  They will be 7-0 going to EL and they, imo, are going to win that one.  The Iowa game is the one where they will be most tested.  They bring back a lot of seniors including the QB and I can see this being a rematch in the B10 championship game.

I totally agree. It's a down year for college football (not in terms of entertainment, just a lack of the really great teams). I really agree on the lack of athletes- especially on offense. Michigan desperately needs a game breaking RB or WR.

Their offensive play calling was irratating last night.  Too many Peppers direct snaps that weren't fooling anyone.  They went for the throat with deep throws when they should have been going intermediate.  Very frustrating.

I would have liked to see more variation with Peppers. I have assumed they were saving it all year, but other than last week's throwback, there hasn't been anything.

Hated that call on the safety....was hoping for a quick hitter to the FB or a play action and instead they hand it off 6 yards deep in the endzone, never had a chance.

They need to run a reverse with Peppers or have him hand it off to change things up.

Good points above about the play calling in general and the lack of creativity with Peppers.

But we're still ranked 4th!  (But let's see how the BCS sees it.)  What's interesting is that Michigan still controls their destiny for a playoff spot ...but by losing, they did damage to OSU.  If Michigan wins out, OSU is out of the Big Ten championship and out of the playoff.  If OSU beats Michigan (after Michigan beats Indiana), they're still not in the Big Ten championship due to their loss to Penn State.  A hollow 'victory' for Michigan with the latter, but still nice to see that our loss hurt OSU as much as it hurt us, arguably.

If Michigan won out, 2-loss OSU would not have been in anything regardless of the Iowa/Mich outcome.

If OSU wins out, regardless of whether they go to Indy, they will be in the playoff imo.

Michigan's loss to Iowa only hurts Michigan because 2-loss Michigan won't be in the playoff, but a 1-loss (to OSU) team still had an outside chance to get the 4th playoff spot.

For whatever reason, I don't care about who is ranked where and if it hurts playoff chances. That is just a scorecard at the end of the year.

What bothers me is laying an egg against a far inferior team. I don't fancy UM as the next Alabama, but I thought Harbaugh would never get outcoached as badly as he did Saturday night. While I will concede those deep balls were open and Speight just missed them, once you realize he is missing them, go with what works....and what works is Evans, Higdon, and Isaac up the MIDDLE. Not Deveon Smith wide.

For all the moaning on defense, they allowed 260 yards and 8 completions. This isn't on them at all. Not sure I realized that, seemed demoralizing they couldn't stop the run...they did fine.

Should be interesting.  I was thinking O'Korn would be the QB this year before the season started, but it obviously didn't turn out that way.

I think everyone thought it would be O`Korn.   Korny has looked pretty good in the limited time he has played.  Has a good arm and can run better than Wilton.

The running aspect could be big if he goes through his progressions.  The nice part is that he gets a week to get his feet wet.  Hopefully the crowd is up and the team is back to its seek and destroy mode.

Indiana is no push over. They are a solid team.
