*** Official 2022 PGA Tour Thread - Memorial Tournament, LIV list leaked- It's all Paulina's Fault **** (2 Viewers)

Remember when -8 for the tournament was cause for the USGA to re-examine the setup?

(FTR I much prefer letting them show off, but still kind of crazy how it evolved)

Despite the length, their tearing up this course. Length isnt a problem for these guys with the massive fairways. I hope it toughens up.
Personally don't want us open scoring to be in line with a regular tour stop. Multiple guys at -15 to -20 isn't what I want to see on Sunday. I know there are various opinions on this, tho.

Watching the replay. Are we going to hear an engine roaring in the background throughout this week's broadcast? Why not have Joe Buck call the action too?

USGA will try to tighten the screws but the fact is the course is softer and more “gettable” than they want. The extended weather pattern of cool, damp days has lingered from May into June and, although firm, it is not as firm & fast as expected. It’s going to warm up slightly this weekend. The low scores should not be a knock on the course as much as a testimony to how really good those guys are. I played LACC North in November for a USGA fundraiser for greenskeeper volunteers and it is a really cool layout and brutal for average golfers like me. It’s not a surprise to me to see such low scores. I played Erin Hills the summer before the US Open was played there and thought over even par would be close to impossible but they destroyed it. I got the same feeling playing LACC North.

Nice over reaction USGA😏Can you say, “we got embarrassed in round 1 so now we’re gonna trick it up to try and save face?” Watch em’ still take it deep🤑

is it?

red dot is round 1

looks like pins tucked behind bunkers or very close to the edge Rd 1 as well, no?

also doesn't really tell the story without contour lines
:lol:Got me Bobby. There’s a couple non tucked pins in R1 but for the most part, close to the edges. Even more telling how good those guys are. Would be interesting to see what really firm, fast & wind would do to the scoring.

I feel like these players are so good that if they are in the fairway - and these are huge fairways - they can get close to any pin. I expect similar scoring although don't expect the same guys who shot low yesterday to do so again today so the gap should tighten.

I mean…didn’t Rory hit it to 2’ on a 258 yrd par 3?

It’s nigh impossible to roll back the technology. These guys are good, just gotta roll with it I guess.

One solution would be having bifurcated equipment. Anything goes balls for Joes, different balls for pros. Standardized pro balls that all have a uniform design and effectively would act as a governor on distance. I don’t think anyone wants to see that.

I like this Sam Bennett kid and hope he is able to maintain his play through the weekend. Lost his dad to Alzheimer's and tattooed his dad's final written words to him on his forearm: "Don't wait to do something". That just gets me in all the feels.

I’ve heard multiple times now that LA CC is the ‘most exclusive course in America’…over Augusta. Not sure if anyone has relevant experience…but I played LACC on a corporate trip (amazing because of the downtown views), and I’ll likely die with my only regret in life being not playing Augusta. Major bull####.

Great thread on LA CC from Joe Pompliano: https://twitter.com/JoePompliano/status/1669749406042664966

Proposed for 2026. Not sure if I heard that it was an official done deal though.

oh really? lol Jack came up with that idea 30 years ago when Tiger came on the scene, I was just spitballing.

they could also do things with the sand in terms of consistency and whether they rake deep furrows into it, which would change sand saves from routine to a challenge. you have deep, thick rough now, guys will intentionally bail out (e.g., if I miss I want it to be here) into a bunker bc that is way more predictable. but again, would be bifurcation - golf is hard af for most humans.

i just wish he wasn’t Cantlay slow with his pace of play

Yeah, was reading about that earlier. Hopefully he can ditch that routine because he seems likeable.

USGA did away with the 10-stroke rule in 2011

low 60 and ties
(PGA & Open are low 70 & ties OR within 10 shots; Masters low 50 or within 10)

52 at E or better
71 at +1 or better

@JoePompliano

Los Angeles Country Club is one of the world's most exclusive golf clubs.
• $250,000 initiation fees
• No celebrities or social media posts

And they use a 45-year-old tax loophole to save $80 million annually.

Here's how it works:LACC sits on 320 acres in the heart of LA.It's one of the country's nicest (and strictest) country clubs.

They don't allow celebrities to join, and every new member is handed a 1,000+ page rulebook.

LACC Rules
• No shorts (tailored pants only)
• Sport coats in the clubhouse after 6 pm
• No changing shoes in the parking lot
• No headphones, earbuds, or athletic clothes
• No photos or videos of the club on social mediaMembers can also only make phone calls from their parked car or a phone booth in the locker room.

@jessicahadwin

bro next to me telling his bruh “that’s hadwin, he got the absolute sh*t kicked out of him last week”

seems a tad dramatic, but I might just start joining in, telling people I heard he lost a finger and still can’t remember his date of birth lol

Gonna need a nap before the leaders tee off today. Stay thirsty my friends.
same, especially if I start drinking right out of the gate with our 8 am tee time this morning. Ideally I don’t start drinking til the course frustrates me….**** at Bodega Bay it’s the first hole so yeah i’ll need a nap
