***Official 2022 World Cup Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Whatever we are doing we just need to do the same the second half. That was about as good as I could have hoped for.

Shots: US 3, Wales 2
xG: US 0.85, Wales 0.11
Touches in att. 3rd: US 102, Wales 19
Progressive carries: US 55, Wales 13
Possession: US 66%
At the bolded

I am absolutely shocked at how Wales approached this first half.

I want to hope it was the US that forced it but it almost feels like this was their intent to hope to do a smash a grab. I don't think any WC opponent ever has ceded possession to us.
I don't think they had a choice. Wales even pressed a good bit trying to get possession back to no avail. The US shape was phenomenal, connected all around and really didn't put a foot wrong.

That was kind of the observation behind my comment about forcing them to play the long ball.

Have we set ourselves up like that before with a TEAM press that high? We look so organized and were basically telling Wales where to go with the ball.

Their formation change has helped them quite a bit so far this half. We need to tighten up the passing, pretty sloppy this last 8 minutes.

Pulisic has had a few chances to push it on these counters and held it up instead. We've gotta punish them for pushing up not be content to just win 40 seconds of possession when we have a 3v3.

My biggest complaint with him, he doesn't get the ball off his foot fast enough through the middle of the park. He looks to go coast to coast to often.

Are we trying to score again here? It shouldn't matter as long as we win, right? I would use all five subs to burn clock. Don't sub three guys at once coach!
