*** Official 2024-25 NHL, Playoff talk... Nothing better *** (4 Viewers)

In case you needed a chuckle

Man, the Super Bowl shuffle really spawned a lot of bad rap team-related songs back then. Not too many hockey ones though, at least with players doing the rapping.
In honor of the former Whalers playing in the ECF tonight:

Whalermania

Be forewarned...you can never unsee, or unlisten to, this.
Had they worn vintage Whalers jerseys rather than those boring white T-shirts, that would have been perfection.

Panthers don’t take a shot for 15 minutes….then boom. Bennett with the slot wrister with a beautiful Marchand screen.

Dagger.

Becoming more and more convinced that no one will be able to dethrone your Panthers. They excel in all aspects of the game, from Bob out, and have tremendous depth. Can play high flying or greasy, whatever is needed.

This always entertained me as well

The NHL has it figured out. Start at 7 and be done by 10, sans overtime.

East coast kids can stay up a little later and still get to bed at a decent time.

EVERY OTHER SPORT PAY ATTENTION!!!

Wild game last night!!!

Panthers look to seize control tonight…..I am sure Carolina has other plans.

Should be a slugfest.

Last night's game was outstanding. I really hope whomever wins the Stars/Oilers series wins it all.

And poor Jeff Skinner. Dude waits his entire career to get into the playoffs. Signs with the Oilers and plays 72 regular season games as the Oilers make the playoffs. He gets one playoff game and I'm pretty sure he's been a DNPCD the rest of the time. At least his wiki page will have something under playoff stats now.

Jeff Skinner got 1 assist and went -2 with about 11 minutes of ice time in Game 1 vs the Kings. He looked slow out there and was a defensive liability.
Barring an injury to one of the Oilers Forwards, I think he's one and done in the playoffs.

Panthers will not be stopped this year.

Back to back incoming.

Now we really know the big change the Oilers made to beat the Kings. It wasn't Hiller's fault after all.......hahahaha

(this is a joke)

Yeah agree.

Their defending in the neutral zone and every other zone is unworldly. Just a full team buy in and effort.

Just no weaknesses on this team.

ESPN coverage is awful. Not sure how Ferraro ever got a job & McDonough screaming & yelling every second of the game is brutal.

Absolute buzz saw - good luck to the Stars/Oilers - they’re gonna need it.

I love Brind’amour as a coach but he’s taken this team as far as they’re going to go.

To be fair, they lost two of their top three defenseman in the offseason in Pesce and Skjei. And if they didn't make the ill-fated move for Rantanen without figuring out whether they could re-sign him or not first, they would have had Necas and Drury (which I think would have been quite a bit better than Stankoven and Hall).
And they still made it to the conference finals. Just ran up against a better team.

As a Bruins fan, I can't believe I am actually rooting for the Panthers...but such is the power of Marchy. I'd love for him to get a 2nd Cup on his resume.

Although if it ends up FLA/EDM, I'd really be ok with either. Marchy wins or McDavid gets one and Edmonton becomes the first Canadian team in over 30 years to win a Cup, thus sticking the knife in a bit deeper to the Maple Leafs fans. And Jamie Benn would still be Cup-less.

With each passing day, it becomes more and more clear how much Chris Drury blundered in passing over Knoblauch (who was coaching the Rangers’ AHL affiliate) to take over for Gerard Gallant. Laviolette did get them to the President’s Trophy but that team was exposed badly and just collapsed this year. Certainly helps to have McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouchard, etc., but Knoblauch motivating this squad to put aside game 1 and take over the series is master class coaching.

He has the whole team buying in and doing what it takes to win. The lineup changes he's made have all worked out and when he mixes lines during the games, it also works.
If Connor Brown is out the next game, I'll be interested to see if Ekholm joins the lineup and they roll with 11 F and 7 D or if Viktor Arvidsson gets back in the lineup.

Hurricanes finally get a ECF win, but I think their season all comes tumbling down in Game 5.
Seems like the Panthers were essentially conceding Game 4 with Reinhart, Mikkola and Greer out. Reinhart has missed a few now though - that could loom large if he’s not back for the Finals.

Oilers win! It is only 3 games to 1, but they look dominant.
Lost Hyman in the 1st and didn't miss a beat.
Dallas has outplayed Edmonton in about 3 periods of the 12 played. So, it makes sense the series is at 3 to 1 EDMONTON! Had a wobble in the 3rd period of Game 1 and shut down the Dallas pp since.

Cat's close it out tonight........bring on Edmonton again as it's looking like a rematch of the titans.

Gonna be another razor tight series.

If Hyman is out long term it is a big loss. Skinner kept the Oil in it in the 1st. He's hilarious, really. Looks lost sometimes but gets in the way of the puck. Honestly can't believe how well Bouchard and Nurse are playing. Didn't think they had it in them.

Reinhart had a morning skate yesterday and I am sure today.....he dodged a bullet. Probably just hyperextended his knee or he would not be skating.

I expect him, Mikkola and Greer back if needed and maybe even tonight.

Hyman is a HUGE loss for the Oilers.
Leads the playoffs in hits by a large margin, contributes offensively and is responsible defensively. Heart and soul guy loved by teammates and fans.

I hate Mason Marchment. Takes Hyman out with a sneaky dirty play and is constantly embellishing trying to draw calls. At least his Dad was very upfront about being a dirty player, this kid needs a solid beating.

Nurse doesn't surprise me. I really think he was playing through injury last season/playoffs and has looked like a different player this season.
The additions of Klingberg and Walman have relieved Bouchard of some of the offensive D man responsibilities and that has helped him imo.

Please, if we are hating all players that are being sneaky dirty, you're hating just about the entire league.
What about the Oilers player that gave Hintz an off the puck shot to his foot that he just got back off injury?

I saw the hit on Hyman a number of times and didn't think it was excessive at all. I think it's just one of those deals where he got hit in a weird spot at a weird angle. I think they said he jammed his thumb, but to me it look like a separated shoulder or something. Not sure but it did not look egregious nor malicious.
And I'm genuinely rooting for the Oilers, but my God do I love Matthew Tkachuck. Going after Aho who is a bit of an ahole was legendary. I love Barkov too, and I like Maurice, it's weird I don't care for the Panthers.

Oilers should get past the Stars without Hyman, but I don't think they'll win the cup against the Panthers without him.
Although, could we get a Jeff Skinner break out series.........

Champions respond like the Panthers just did.

That first period was the worst period they have played in this series.

I expect them to really crank up the forecheck in period 3 and end this.

Kudos to the Panthers for doing what they do.

I’m assuming/hoping Rod doesn’t pay the price for this - just ran into a buzz saw and he’s still a hell of a coach. He’d be unemployed for about 10 minutes if they get trigger happy.
