*** Official 2024-25 NHL, Playoff talk... Nothing better *** (1 Viewer)

Wow, never been so happy to be wrong. After Game 3 and the 1st period tonight, the Oilers looked done.
But, unlike Game 3, the Oilers kept their cool and kept playing.
Lucky game winner, but the Oilers deserved a break after so many went against them.

Thought the same thing - after they lost the double OT game, figured the Panthers had them right where they wanted them. Underestimated the resilience of these Oilers.

Oilers are the 1st road team to come back from a 3-0 deficit in a SCF game since the Montreal Canadiens did it in 1919. Only 6 teams have come back from a 3-0 deficit in a SCF game in NHL history. The last time was 2006, which unfortunately was the Hurricanes over the Oilers.
Corey Perry apparently gave a helluva speech in the first intermission.

Biggest disappointment of the night...now I have to see Taylor Swift at the SCF???? Stick to football and just ruin one sport.
I never got this kind of opinion. She’s literally just sitting there. Who cares?
The fragility of some is a strange thing, for sure.

Anyway, awesome comeback by the Oilers. I always want more hockey, and that result makes it more likely that we get to 7 games.

Peter DeBoer should be taking notes for his next job. That's how you handle a goalie change in a big game, you do it between periods. Let your team rally around your backup, not embarrass your #1 and have your team second guessing itself. Then moving Kane down to the 4th line because he's a knumbskull. First period Oilers did themselves in a lot with stupid penalties and bad giveaways defensively. Second period the Panthers were very uncharastically not hunting and protecting the lead. Oilers have the best two players maybe in the world on that team, need to continue to press and not let them get into the flow. Series still a toss up as both teams are awesome - I wish the Oilers had Hyman though available as that is a pretty big loss for them.
Back to Edmonton!

Knoblauch is showing that he's far more than just a coach who's benefiting from having two of the best players of the world.

Thanks again to Chris Drury.

The Panthers didn't sit back though. They kept coming at the Oilers and had
plenty of chances. Pickard made some amazing saves, Ekholm and others blocked wide open shots. The Oilers just seemed to kick it up a few notches after the 1st.
Can't figure out the officiating in this series. Panthers had all of the powerplays in the 1st, Oilers in the 2nd and there was one call in the 3rd. Bunch of missed calls for both sides.

Best of 3 with Oilers having two of the games on home ice.

Not sure what broadcast you were watching (if any), but they were obsessing about her all night. During the play, in the intermission, etc.
Watching tnt here, she obviously was shown but it wasn’t distracting to me. Not like they had her in a box on the top left of the screen. She’s likely one of the 5-7 most famous people in the world right now, idk it just doesn’t bother me.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that the head crew in Toronto is chirping quite a bit in the officials' ears. Historically the number of calls is pretty low in the playoffs to begin with, and as you progress in the later rounds, the whistles all but disappear beyond the have-to-call high sticks, pulling down someone on a clear breakaway, or delays of games. The number of calls in the Finals thus far seems to be way beyond what we typically see. Even ticky-tack stuff is getting called.

That's because you're not fragile. ;)

Plus, this is just smart on the part of the NHL. They don't exactly draw the biggest ratings now, and showing and highlighting a star who may bring in more viewers is the smart way to go. It would be idiocy to not.

I get way more annoyed when they show player’s family.

Only if it's the Tkachuks or Marchand's Mom.

Notwithstanding that McDavid goal sequence, it’s unfathomable how flat Edmonton came out tonight in a pivotal Game 5 at home. Full props to Florida though for bouncing back after that tough loss and stepping on the Oilers’ throats - that’s how champions are made.

Marchand has to be one of the best deadline trades in recent memory.
Can’t think of a better one. Annoyed the Bolts let Florida get him, can’t let them have a better offer than you for a guy like that.
Last one I can think of is Ray Bourque, but the Avalanche didn’t win until the year after he got there at the deadline and they probably would have won anyway.

Yea idk if Florida wins this without him. What a trade.

Can't believe Boston only got a conditional 2nd round pick in 2027 (after Florida went 2 rounds in these playoffs it escalated to a 2027 or 2028 1st) and they retained 50% of his salary.
To be fair, in hindsight it didn’t seem like a huge steal for Florida. Marchand was not having a very good year (as with the rest of the Bruins) and seemed to be on the back nine of his career. He probably used the trade as motivation to find the fountain of youth and his style fits like a glove with this team.

Some of us couldn't post since we were at the game
Some of us couldn't post because we were drinking beer from the Cup at the Elbo room on the beach thru the wee hours
200.000 strong will show up this Sunday to watch the parade on Ft Laud Beach

-The Panthers really don't have fans in Dade County/Miami
The Panthers are a Broward County team with a lot of people who come down from Palm Beach
Wasn't a lot of celebrating in downtown Miami or Calle Ocho, few pots and pans being banged around
