***Official 2024 Pro Cycling Thread*** - The road ends in Spain. Guaranteed Crazy Ending. (2 Viewers)

Femmes just got interesting in a bad way.
Not often the yellow jersey crashes. Announcer was shocked nobody from her team dropped back to pace her to the finish.
some of the commentary I've seen is saying its the worst team thing they've seen in years especially given the way Vas and Weibes came in (at least Vas won the stage). I know Vollering is out saying she's ok, but the way she was stretching her back didn't seem ok and at a minimum she's going to be sore in the morning. All the French teams have every incentive to make tomorrow as hard as possible before the two mountain stages.

… and Faulkner up to 2nd, 19 seconds back. I think I saw a snippet of an interview where she said she hadn’t trained for mountains, though.

Femmes just got interesting in a bad way.

Imagine if LaPorte saw Jonas go down and just kept on riding so he could sprint for 8th place from group 2.

Just unbelievable.

“Sprinters are ******** and I don’t want to be associated with it.”
- Thibau Nys

Stage 6 is hilly, 7 has some proper climbs and summit finish, and the finale is brutal - Cat 1, HC, and HC (Alpe d’ Huez.) If Vollering is OK and recovers, she is going to crush the field.

Oh, and **** every teammate on SD Worx. I know Demi is leaving at YE but she didn’t deserve this.

Must be some fun team dinners, eh.

who is Brettdj?

@Jaysus is he on the board? just a guy you recruited from the bus station?

would be cool to get a few more entries into the fantasy league before the Vuelta stars tomorrow.

@Tick you should join & submit a team.

after you enter a team (9 riders, 100 credit limit), you can join it to the FBG league

the code is 748469416

If you're looking for a sentimental what-the-heck rider to adopt, 38 year old Robert Gesink 🇳🇱 is riding his 25th Grand Tour.

He's going to retire at year end, and to honor his career Team Visma | Lease a Bike listed him as one of their team leaders for the 2024 Vuelta.
  • after a promising junior and U23 start, he signed with Rabobank in 2006, finishing 176th in his first year of men's elite
  • from 2007-2015, he finished the year ranked no worse than 55th 8 times, peaking at 10th in 2010
  • best Vuelta GC finishes were 7th in 2008, 6th in 2009, and 6th again in 2012; finished 3rd in the Mountains jersey in 2016
  • also had two Top 6 GC finishes in the Tour de France
  • most notable of his 13 wins were the 2013 Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec, and Stage 14 of the 2016 Vuelta
  • wore the Red jersey (lowest combination of GC+Points+Mountains) for 6 consecutive days in the final week of the 2016 Vuelta
  • his last and 24th career Vuelta stage top 10 was in 2022
  • 11 TdF, 3x Giro, and this is his 11th Vuelta - he's completed it 9 of his previous 10 starts.

New dart thrown. :lmao:
I’m on my 3rd dart. 🤷🏼‍♂️

5 for me?

Biggest dilemma is which 6 point sprinter to waste credits on
Went back to adjust and ended up keeping my first throw. Podium here I come!

I had a streak of 4 podiums, went 3rd, 1st and 3rd in the GTs last year.

This year? Dead last in the Giro and 8th out of 9 in Le Tour.

5th would feel great lol.
Bro you’re the Merckx of cycling around these parts.

del Toro is a beast.

Yeah he's gonna be good but first timer, but I already had one 20 year old debutant (and he's gonna win the ITT in a few hours (🤞)

Not sure how what the UAE strategy will be though - they always seem to flounder when Tadej isn't around

João going for his third straight 4th place, Yates has one podium in 13 GTs, McNulty-Sivakov-Soler-Vine can all drive the pace

Lot of big engines on that team, that's for certain. Will be interesting to see
  1. who ends up being the leader
  2. if they'll let Brandon hunt for Stages
  3. who will be the wanker who doesn't want pull

I've got the ITT winner on my squad too

I was half tempted to just load up with UAE riders for this tour 😉

Everybody is a leader! Now go out there & sort it out.

Velogmes seems to be down. I have a bunch of newer/younger dudes on my team. I need the reminder of who I stuck with. The TT winner for sure….

And somehow I'm bloody awful yet again. :lmao:

Only person worse off is the guy parachuting in for the start of this thing. Ouch.

Saw an interesting preview show from the guys who write all those W/kg articles at the Lanterne Rouge Blog. They have a contest to see who can build the worst team - you have to spend all 100 credits, lowest score wins.

I didn’t appreciate one of them taking Roglič.

:hot:

I was wondering if McNulty was going to come in and do something like that. Does UAE ride for him now?

When have they ever done that?

He’s stuck there until the end of 2027. So many other teams he would be the clear, unquestioned leader on.

Age 26-28 are the peak years for most GC guys. Let’s go Brandon!

:oldunsure:
(not a euphemism)

"I don't know; I feel heavy and a little lost. I've been struggling mentally and in terms of training since the Games. I thought I had picked myself up and was ready for today, but on the road, I felt like I was sinking. It seemed the wind was blowing harder and different than during recon, so maybe I went too hard in the first part," - Josh Tarling after his finish.

Just an off day, unfortunately. Thought he was a stone cold lock.

They did say on the broadcast the winds shift there all the time making recon next to impossible.

Think that may have been my best time trial result that didn’t include Tadej and/or Remco.

I don't understand what the rules are for getting the same time in a stage.

Vollering beat Niewiadoma by about 3 bike lengths, with no riders connecting them... why did they get the same time?

Faulkner fell off, lost 6 minutes, is no longer a contender :-(
