We can still find a way to fight back but it will have to be another epic comeback.

Have to win tomorrow.

This series is going 7. On paper, tomorrow's matchup looks pretty lopsided in favor of Houston but we all know that JV has been pretty bad in the playoffs. Regardless, I would not count on torching him 2 straight starts. The only way it doesn't go 7 IMO is if the Phils come back tonight. If that happens, it's over tomorrow.

Man I hope they leave Javier in there. They won’t because analytics guys are a bunch of wanks.
What would be the reason to take him out? He's only at 77 pitches and is unhittable tonight. He's not going to pitch again this series anyways (other than a possible bullpen arm game 7). You would have to be a buffoon to take him out right now. But I guess you never know with Dusty.

I mean I guess if Houston scores like 3 runs this inning, it's probably a good idea to take him out so that they can preserve him for game 7.

Up until Bregman scored, the pitching was:
Nola - 8 ER in 8.1
Wheeler - 4 ER in 5.0
Everyone else - 0 ER in 17.2
A bullpen game might be the best thing for us at this point.

Same. I wanted to see him go for the complete game no no. Makes sense though to preserve him a bit. Sure he'll be a go if we get to G7.

Are you thinking he starts game 7? Man I would not trust McCullers at all.

I doubt they'll start him but he'll definitely be available early.

Would be fitting for this world series to follow up a 5 hr game with a no hitter.

Nothing changed. Still have to win tomorrow and set it up for Wheeler game 6.

The recent numbers the broadcasters have been quoting for Javier are ridiculous. He's basically been Sandy Koufax for about 6 games in a row. How can you wait to start him until Game 4 if that is the case?

ARod, Frank Thomas, and Big Papi. It would be difficult for Fox to come up with a less likable studio team.

Maybe they should add AJ Pierzynski.

Frank and Papi are super-lovable. And yet you are still correct.

ugh, i’d love phillies to win this but i still wish their fans weren’t such dicks

Dicks. SUCH dicks. Love you Philly.

I feel like Dusty left Scherzer and that other Nationals snowflake #1 pick in for inning after inning a few years back. Can't remember that other waste of space pitcher's name, but Dusty killed them both I think. Weird.

I think a lot has changed with this loss. First, Houston has their confidence back. Second, we know the series is going back to Houston. Third, Wheeler is potentially dealing with a dead arm so the next 2 games significantly favor Houston. I hate to say it but this really was a game that Philly needed to win. With that said, it’s a 3 game series and it’s baseball so anything can happen.

Before G1: Houston Favoured Big
Before G2: Philly Favoured Slightly
Before G3: Houston Favoured Slightly
Before G4: Philly Favoured Slightly
Before G5: Houston Favoured Big

Not sure what point of the game this was from but he got up to over 90 pitches after 6 IP. There really was no reason to leave him in for the 7th because he wasn't gonig to be able to go 3 more innings for the no hitter. Get him out after 6 and then your bullpen can go three innings without having to come into the middle of an inning. I wouldn't have had issue leving Javier in for the 7th but I wouldn't have sent him out fo the 8th with over 100 pitches in the game.

There was no way he was going three more innings when he was already over 90 pitches thru 6 IP. I could see leaving him out for the 7th but he wasn't going any more than that.

If I were the manager I would bring Javier out to start the 7th (and have a very short leash).
He was over 90 pitches so at most he could get through the 7th. The problem with planning to pull him if a guy gets on is then you have a guy on. It's better to bring in a pitcher with nobody on base and to start an inning. I wouldn't have had an issue with your plan but sometimes it's better to just have a fresh slate for a guy coming in.

They're going to need Javier if the series goes to 7. All hands on deck. It was the right move to pull him after 6. I would have also been ok letting him start the 7th with a short leash.

Houston really took control last night. I expect Verlander to pitch a gem tonight and I also expect the Phillies bullpen (tonight is a bullpen game for them) to come back down to Earth a little. Houston should win tonight.

But watch the Phils hit like 6 HRs in the first 3 innings because baseball.

Yup I would have been ok with either move. It's just the guy was so much on his game that I would want to maximize his usage. The Phils have shown the ability to come back against anyone all postseason so the idea of pulling him must have left Baker a little uneasy. But it all worked out for them.

Was surprised to get an email about commemorative post season tickets that can be redeemed on Candy which is the MLB digital collectible partner, anyone familiar with this? I’m old school and not familiar with Candy and honestly was hoping I could get real tickets sent, is there value to these digital tickets? Interested to learn more from those familiar with it.

Definitely worried about Verlander. Giving up a leadoff HR is not the way to start a game. He hasn't been the same since coming back from injury.

Really? Didn't he get hurt in that game against Baltimore on August 28th? After that, he gave up 3 runs in his last 23 regular season innings. He then struggled in his game against Seattle but pitched a gem against the Yanks. I think he'll be fine. He's such a great pitcher - this WS slump just feels like a complete fluke.

Hope you're right. Just hasn't seemed as dominant in the playoffs. Probably just an overreaction on my part from G1 and Javier's brilliance.

Well he’s definitely struggling again tonight.

If I’m dusty, I’m going to that bullpen to start the next inning. Verly is getting our of jams but he’s at 90+ pitches and has looked a bit shaky tonight. You’ve got a great bullpen and a rest day coming up. Take advantage of that.

Hensley not getting to 3rd on that slowwwwww Maldonado single to right field is some epicly horrible base running.

That Altuve grounder is a MUCH trickier play if there are runners on 1st and 3rd there.
