The playoffs would be much better to me if they just called balls and strikes based on the wireframe on the broadcast. So much inconsistency in the calls with strikes a full ball's width outside the plate and other pitches over the plate at the belt that are balls.

Yeah, it was close. But those both can’t be strikes. The zone isn’t that wide. Absurd.

I'm a lifelong baseball guy but I just don't get why people are so against robo-umps because of "tradition". It's even worse now that we have the little box so we can see how bad they are. There were tons of bad calls in both games but several in the Stros/Rangers game that were just awful. A few strikes called way way way off the plate in key circumstances, and another in the opposite direction where it was such an obvious strike (I'm guessing the entire ball was inside the edge of home plate with a gap in between) that the ump had to kind of get everyone's attention to let them know the last pitch was called ball 4 and the guy should be going to 1st.

Pfaadt throws a 93 mph fastball about 56% of the time. 84 mph slider (sweeper) about 26% of the time. 87 mph change about 12% of the time. That fastball is just average and the change velo is just way to close to the fastball.

Ranger throws a 93 mph fastball about 49% of the time. 76 mph curve about 19% of the time. 83 mph change about 18% of the time. 88 mph cutter about 12% of the time.

This is do or die for Arizona today. I expect them to put pressure on the Phillies by running the bases more. Surprised they didn't try to run in games 1 & 2 when they had baserunners. Think the Phils win today, Suarez isn't an overpowering pitcher but for some reason, in the playoffs, he turns into Sandy Koufax. I expect him to give the Phils 5 really good innings and leave with the lead for the bullpen to try and hold.

Well...I was right about Ranger. Pfaadt pitched the game of his life. The Phillies really need to switch Realmuto and Bohm because right now, Harper isn't seeing any pitches. I think a reporter last night said out of the 17 pitches Harper saw, only one was in the zone.

I can't really predict the outcome of tonight's game. It will be a bullpen game for both team so I expect to see some runs scored.

The thing is Bohm minus last night has been absolutely crushing the ball, they just have all been outs.... But yeah need to shake something up maybe

Well I don't want to bring up the elephant in the room but Rojas is 2-32 in the playoffs. He's as close to an automatic out as you can get right now. He's not even putting together professional ABs. I think I would try Pache (vs. LHP) and Cave (vs. RHP) and then bring in Rojas in the late innings for defense.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Rojas was so late on that pitch and got lucky it stayed fair.

I got friends that think this guy is an everyday CF. Not with these hitting analytics:

The worst was last night in the 9th, Brandon Marsh batting, 2 balls and 1 strike and the home plate umpire called a strike about 6 inches off the plate inside. Should have been ball 3. Instead it was 2-2. Then calls the third strike about 6 inches off the plate on the outside. Marsh should have been on 1st with a walk. Then you see Marsh, visibly upset, tell him, if you're going to call the strike off the plate on the inside, then you can't also call the strike off the plate on the outside. You can't call both. MLB needs to get rid of the box, because it shows how awful the umpires strike zone is.

I'm not sure what league(s) it's in but some minor leagues have a batter, or catcher, challenge and ump taps his cap and in less than 2 seconds it's reviewed and corrected if it was wrong. This seems like a decent compromise to me.
