Padres were my bet to win the WS last year once post season began - odds were tasty.

I may throw $$$ on them this year too, like.....now. They're lethal. Biggest threat to LA in the NL?

+3000 on DK.....

Damn. $250 pays $7,750. Tempting.
That's pretty good. The thing with the Padres is that I think the NL West might be the best division in baseball and that means they will all beat up on each other. I think the Dodgers, Padres, GIants and DBacks are all good enough to be playoff teams, but it's unlikely they all make it.

Dodgers SP is far from perfect. The way the Padres closed last year and started this year is telling. I think they can go toe to toe with LA.

I’m going to be no fun. Future bets are bad bets and their ownership is in a bit of turmoil, isn’t it? Whispers about selling off players. Can they resist that temptation to cut $$$ at the deadline? Mind you, I haven’t followed baseball with rigor since 2011, the year the Red Sox blew about an eleven game lead in a month and a half, and I decided that if the players don’t care I don’t either and why spend four hours every waking day watching fat John Lackey struggle to pitch and breathe at the same time.

But Google the Pads about their ownership before the $250 investment. That’s a lot of good Portland beer or two pairs of New Balances, you know? :)

No worries, they'll just buy one.

They have 8, they just need to rotate if someone falters until Kershaw and Ohtani come back.

Eh, I like something to cheer for. I'm not overly concerned with their ownership - it's the same ownership that was in place last year when the team went 93-69, swept the Braves and took the Dodgers to game 5 in their series, losing a close one 2-0 to the champs who steamrolled to the WS.

It's the same ownership that just handed Jackson Merrill a phat contract extension and he might be one of the best young player in baseball right now at 22 years old. Paired with Tatis and Machado this team has some juice. I'd also keep an eye on Leo De Vries and Ethan Salas in the minors - babies, but they're advanced. Too early for them at the major league level, but this signifies to me an ownership group willing to spend to keep the farm pond stocked - Salas was the top ranked international player and the Pads gave him $5.6mm to sign. That's not a stingy offer for a 17 year old kid.

I like Cease and King as front line starters and the BP is stacked.

I dunno, in a day where I'm losing 4% of my net worth, I've got to find other avenues of hope. ;)

Odds down to +2500

Shoulda, woulda, coulda.....

That's true.....

Eh, it's a gamble. I'd rather back a team with juicy odds than be a chalk eating weasel and root for the bottomless pockets team that's +250 to win it all. What's the fun in that?

The Phillies pitching staff is unreal. Ranger Suarez might be their 5th starter (once he comes back from injury).

Their hitting lineup is flawed, but with that pitching, they only need to score 3 or 4 runs a game.

Going into the offseason, I wasn't sure I was going to keep Cristopher Sanchez on my fantasy team, but when the spring reports were that his velocity was up, I did. I'll take it so far.

There are 5 people at the White Sox/Twins game. Embarrassing.

Move these teams to cities that will support them.
Build it and they will come.

It = a good team.

Cubs draw fans when they suck. Red Sox too. Mariners have fans and they've been historically bad for decades, save for 1 or 2 decent seasons.
They went like 20 years without the playoffs but most those years they weren't close and we just had to enjoy things like Felix Hernandez pitching every five days. Recently it has been just shake your head at how close they get and can't find an answer to improve just a couple games. 2024 1 game out of the playoffs, 2023 1 game out, 2021 1 game out, 2018 1 game out, 2017 2 games out, 2016 half game out, 2014 1 game out. All these years getting close and only 2022 could they get over the hump and in. It's baffling to be that close that consistently and only have 1 playoff appearance.

wonder if the pads would like to have wood, hassel, gore and abram’s back right about now. gore is electric, i just don’t know if it’s gonna happen for him, but the others……

It is frustrating - I'm not a fan, but it's the team that gets the coverage in Portland so I follow. It is criminal that they wasted the Felix years with an offense that just couldn't get it going. Felt like every signing was a bad one - Richie Sexson, Chone Figgins, Scott Spezio just to name a few. It's like these guys came over to Seattle and forgot how to hit. Hell, they wouldn't even take walks. I remember going to a game in 2009 or so and their clean-up hitter was Russell Freaking Banyan! My god.

All that said, I'm going to a game in July vs the Royals. I haven't been to all the MLB ballparks - I'd really like to visit San Francisco and Pittsburg - but T-Mobile is a treasure. Just an absolute gem of a stadium for baseball.

If we sign King to a deal that will take a ton of the sting out of the Soto deal for sure.

But as a life long Padre fan, I will take this version (takes big swings and chances at wins even if we strike out sometimes) vs the one that I had for my entire life prior too 100 out of 100 times.

These Phillies unis are an abomination.
No one likes them, and it's not the kind of thing that will eventually be embraced ironically like Gritty.

Kind of like those couple of years when the Islanders' uniforms looked like the Gortons fisherman on the front of their fish sticks packaging.

Orioles/Royals covered the over, my friend,

Devers went 4-4 with a walk and knocked in three tonight against St. Louis as Boston swept a doubleheader to also sweep their three-game series with the Cards. He went 2-3 with two walks on Friday night and is now at .263/.404/.421 on the year. Way to bounce back out of whatever he was going through.

Alex Bregman went 4-5 with 6 RBI in the nightcap of the twinbill and sits at .314/.351/.486 for the year.

Nice signing so far.

Orioles/Royals covered the over, my friend,

Decided to go UNDER 8.5 today. Gallen been using a knuckle curve effectively, think that slows the Os a bit.

Course the Baltimore pitcher could be a problem.....
