Mariners called up a kid from my little local college, Ben Williamson, 3B. Not a power hitter but makes good contact consistently. His mastery is on the defensive side though, probably the best defensive infielder in the minors before getting the call. Google Ben Williamson web gems and you'll find a number of results. No idea how long he'll stay up but in his senior season I told his mom he'd make it so I "won" that one.

That's pretty cool!

And he's probably already their best 3B hitter. ;)

Ben's uncle is a buddy of mine from college - I've been following his journey for years. Seems like a great kid. Base hit in his first AB! But saw that he got caught stealing a couple days ago - that's Collinsworth DNA haunting him.

I think i just heard the announcers say Jose Altuve has played in 1800 of the Houston Astros total 10,000 games.

To paraphrase Brian Fellows, that's crazy.

A’s calling up Nick Kurtz. He’s been crushing it in AAA.

today? he's still not up
Yes, looks like today. They had him join the club in Sacramento and did some batting practice with the team yesterday, but apparently held off a day from activating because they were facing a lefty.

I am pretty sure I mentioned Soto would miss Judge more than Judge would ever miss Soto.

It's only almost a month in but the trend early on is holding true. Pete Alonso though does not seem to mind LOL.

Judge - 108 PA 90 AB 22 R 37 H 7 2B 7 HR 25 RBI 3 SB 16 BB 22 K. .411/.509/.722/1.231
Soto - 105 PA 86 AB 17 R 20 H 5 2B 3 HR 12 RBI 2 SB 18 BB 15 K .233/.362/.395/.757

All Rise.

I am sure Soto will be fine.......but I love seeing this as a Yankees fan.

The Cubs and Dodgers are finished playing for the regular season. The Cubs took the series 4-3, including four of five games on American soil.

The Dodgers can bludgeon the league with their payroll, but if they don't work on fixing a leaky bullpen and a poor defense then they will not be seeing the Cubs again in October.

One year.

Only 135 games to go

Today, the Seattle Mariners are starting Donovan Solano at 1B, which I believe many other MLB teams use as a source of power or maybe even a fella who can get on base.

But not our Mariners, boys....no, check out this cat's season to date:

OBP: .083
BA: .169
HR: 0
RBI: 1
R: 1
SB: 0

Like, what are they even doing?

Well, some of the Mariners are; he decidedly is not. 0-2 and now his OBP is a robust .081 :lmao:

How is his OBP 80 points lower than BA? Usually OBP is higher than BA when take walks into account.

I'm here to defend Donnie Barrels. 36 PAs in 2025 is a small sample size compared to a decent recent history as a productive hitter especially against LHP.

He's a better option than Rowdy or Raley against a tough lefty. The M's don't have a ton of options.

I was using his OPS instead of BA. Here's what it is currently:

Average .081
On Base % .079

He has 0 walks on the season.

Oh, I'm aware the options are down to seeds and stems, but a 37-year with declining bat speed, 0 walks and no speed on the base path shouldn't really be one of those options.

I've got the Rockies as the worst team in MLB right now, but they might have found something with Hunter Goodman. He had quite a bit of power in the minors and is starting to hit the ball hard away from Coors. I have a feeling he might have a great summer in Denver.

bet they miss the halcyon days of Justin Smoak.
They still miss Tom Paciorek.

Wanted to make a Russell Branyan joke but he ended up being a woman abusing monster so F him.

He played for a bunch of teams so you can't pin him on the Mariners.

He was the Mariners' clean up hitter for a spell.

When we talk about a franchise wasting the career of a hall of famer like Seattle did with King Felix, this is the sort of evidence a prosecutor would use to rest his case.

He was really solid all last year for my Padres. Was actually sad to see him go.

There are plenty of things that can exceed 104 mph. Cars, trains, airplanes ... even wind.

A pitch, however, generally isn't one of those -- unless you're Raimon Gomez.

The Mets right-hander came out blazing in the first inning at Clover Park, reaching triple digits with his heater on 11 of 12 pitches for Single-A St. Lucie.

He hit 104.5.

Giants walk it off with a little league home run on little league day at the ballpark.
Forgot to add that before the game my son got a Logan Webb autograph. My son said he was the nicest of any of the players he's ever gotten an autograph from and spent an extra 30 seconds per kid to talk with them a bit versus just getting through the line. He told my son "You look like you've got some gamer in you" after asking for his name and age. I found it pretty funny because that is what everyone says about him when they see him play, whether they know him personally or not.

They also need to figure out how to keep their starting pitchers healthy as they are down to 3.
