The dodgers became the first team ever to use 11 different starting pitchers before May smh

I know they're still the odds on favorite to win the WS but this has to be very very concerning.

Unless you know who starts pitching for them.

Whatever, I'm sure they'll trade for Paul Skenes, one of Seattle's best pitchers, Nolan Ryan and Grover Cleveland Alexander before the deadline.
Well, Kershaw is due back soon. Oh you meant the OTHER you know who. He's still a couple months out. Wouldn't surprise if he isn't ready until late in the season or they just wait until 2026.
Snell is due to start throwing again too.

Sadly my friend supporting the Pirates claims Skenes is under cheap control for a few more seasons so Pitt has no reason to trade him. We'll see.

And even with all that, their record still looks pretty good.

I know.....it's disheartening when one of the best teams in baseball ever assembled starts to show some cracks and their winning percentage is still .687.
The Padres are on a 6 game winning streak and have the second best record in the league, yet still can’t make ground on the Dodgers. Crazy.

Might double down my Padres' bet - still +2000. Tasty.

Dodgers +240.

As a Giants fan I feel your pain.

Got tix to go see the Padres vs Pirates at the beginning of June while I’m in SD

20-1 seems high

The ball bouncing off the head of the White Sox 2B in the bottom of the 9th leading to their loss has me :lmao:
I was texting back and forth with my buddy in KC in the 7th:

"This is one of those games we just aren't going to win so just regroup tomorrow".

The Royals just couldn't do anything or get anything right.

In the ninth:

"I stand corrected".

:lmao: We were laughing our **** off. And it wasn't just the head ball. It was like a circus out there in the 9th.

Went to Petco with family the other week (4/26/25) to see the Padres play the Rays. San Diego has changed so much. The skyline is so very different than it was in ‘93.

I was amazed by that and how loud the crowd got. I remember San Diego baseball when it was totally dead and bleacher seats were five bucks. Man did the crowd ever get deafening when it was called for. Rays won 4-1 on the back of two great catches and a home run by Brandon Lowe, but it was a good time even with the Padres losing.

I feel for the WS fans like @urbanhack, but it was a perfect display of their ineptitude.

Petco is a great stadium and is far better than Jack Murphy/Qualcomm was. And now that the Pads spend money, their team does well and the crowd is there and excited. Despite being a Dodger fan, I did grow up in SD and am happy to see their team get the fans while also fielding a competitive team.

It is May 8, 2025 and there are 10 MLB players with an OBP of .400 or better. Some of these are household names, some are, well....not so well known.

Aaron Judge
Pete Alonso
Marcell Ozuna
Sohei Ohtani
Kyle Schwarber
George SPringer
Alex Bregman

Joining them are:

Jonathan Aranda
JP Crawford
Wilyer Abreu

Because Baseball!

Wilyer Abreu

Abreu was a rookie last year and won a gold glove. His OBP was only .322 but it's not inconceivable he's about to become a star. I'd expect him to come back to earth, but let's watch the guy before the jury decides it's all luck. This might be really fortuitous for Boston.

A quick advanced stats check shows that his BABIP was .325 last year and .326 this year, so the OBP is likely a function of an improvement in plate discipline and vision. His exit velocity is consistent with last year also. His ground ball/fly ball ratio has changed significantly, as has his launch angle. I remember when Mookie worked with his hitting coach and the Sox and they changed his swing also. That is not out of the realm of possibility; in fact, the Red Sox tried to change Duran's launch angle and it didn't work, so it's actually likely they've done the same with Abreu.

There were many articles about trading him this offseason. I'd say you have to hold him and see how this all shakes out. He just turned 25.

Oh, I had Wilyer in two leagues last year and was on the fence keeping him in the Dynasty league....I'm in dead last in that league, so you might guess which way I eventually leaned. :kicksrock:

Nice to see him on this list but I don't think many expected him to be up in this rarified air 5 weeks into the season.

You’re absolutely right. I wasn’t trying to correct you or anything; I was indeed stunned to see him on your list (I kind of knew through the ether that he was having a good year, but I didn’t realize it was this good) and then just looking at the numbers I was even more surprised.

Bummer about holding him. That’s no fun.

Feels like there are some players missing from this list. Freddie Freeman above .400 too. Maybe he just misses a minimum AB qualifier because he missed a week or so with injury.

Well, yeah.....there's minimum qualifications it's baseball.

There is a player in the Twins system at St Paul named Carson Mckusker. You can't call him a prospect because he is 26 years old and was signed by the Twins out of Indy Ball. He is built like Judge (6'8" 250) and can crush the ball.

Here is a HR from the other night, make sure you have the sound on.

Yes he has a high K%, but it bugs me that the Twins bring all of these "utility players" in that can't hit but can play multiple positions instead of giving players that are crushing the ball a chance to hit in the bigs.

This is the same organization that gave up on David Ortiz.

It's weird that Tom Kelly will (and rightfully so) be known around baseball as much for trying to force Ortiz to do a certain thing because he was so obdurate about his philosophy of baseball as he will be known for the '87 and '91 titles he skippered.

He will forever be the dinosaur clinging to baseball played in the face of the proper statistics vs. baseball played according to their dictates.

I'm not looking to piss off Twins fans; it's just how I look at the story of baseball and its transformation.

He won't be known for that at all. He's only known for delivering the only two sports championships for the state in the past... What... Bajillion years. He is a god here.

Fair enough. Maybe in MN.

Please tell me if I’m overreacting. I’d ship him to the first team that would pay his salary (who would?). -5 DRS last year. He was just atrocious. 52nd among 3B and he’s going to complain this way about being asked to try first? Good freaking riddance if anybody will have you.

$313,000,000 guaranteed

Criminy. I have so many things to say.

From ESPN:

Devers offered a suggestion to Breslow, who pitched 12 major league seasons and was a key member of Boston's bullpen when the team won the World Series in 2013. Breslow is in his second season leading the Red Sox's baseball operations department.

"Now, they should do their jobs essentially and hit the market and look for another player. I'm not sure why they want me to be an in-between," Devers said. "Next thing you know, someone in the outfield gets hurt and they want me to play in the outfield. I know the kind of player that I am, and that's where I stand."

Best ballpark in the league. And the fans have been amazing for years now. Nothing like the old Jack Murphy days

Yeah, it's arch to say this is a hot take. It's another to watch a guy who is $313,000,000 into an organization who plays terrible defense and can't even crack the top twenty in any advanced hitting stat air out his GM for privately asking him to play first.

LOL, Eephus. I rarely disagree with you publicly because you're so thoughtful; this is an exception. They're probably dying to get out from under that salary right now.

He finished 52nd in fielding among qualified third baseman last year.

I used to follow this sport religiously and stopped. I hadn't caught up to the statistical evolution from 2011—and there has been an explosion and I don't pretend to be an expert. But this is so out there it's ridiculous from simply a labor-employer standpoint.

eta* And I was fine with his start in April. I was one of the ones that was a little taken aback but didn't rush to judgment.

eta2* editing words for clarity and substituting abominations like "well thought-out" for "thoughtful" and "GM for asking him privately to play first" to "GM for privately asking him . . . "

Most likely this works out and we’re cheering for him in August (because nobody in their right mind would trade for this guy at this point), but it sure sounds like the owner was pissed off, or at least felt it was an urgent matter to address and come to an understanding. LOL. John Henry is normally conspicuously not involved in the daily operation of the Sox and hasn’t been since he became part-owner of Liverpool FC:

“Owner John Henry, team president Sam Kennedy, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, and manager Alex Cora all met with Devers in person before Boston’s three-game series against the Royals in Kansas City this weekend. Henry, Kennedy, and Breslow flew out for the conversation.”

Oof.

This one is hearsay and could be doubted but then Trevor Story had to step up in the clubhouse and field questions tonight as a sort of designated team leader.

I'm fascinated by the lunatic in the stands at Citi Field watching the Mets play. He's in the back row on the aisle directly behind home plate.

When the Pirates are batting, he points at the Mets pitcher until he delivers the ball. If it's a strike, he raises his fist in triumph. A ball, he waves it away.

I wonder if he's there every game.

is it that max wiener guy? guy dresses like he found a drag ensemble on the street.

Oswaldo Cabrera snaps his ankle in half coming home from 3rd on a sac fly in the 9th inning of a game the Yanks were winning 10-5, and crawls back to touch the plate with his foot at like a 90 degree angle. As he's being loaded up in an ambulance he calls Judge over and asks..."did I score?".

MLB needs more players like Oswaldo Cabrera.

Why? Aren't there already enough players on the disabled list?
