Checking out the run differentials thus far. Alarmingly bad for the Rockies at -198. That's the worst in MLB by a *LOT*. Athletics are at -118, which isn't on account of their offense - their pitching/defense have given up 411 runs, even worse than COL. Crazy.
Best run differential in baseball? I was a little surprised by this one - it's the Cubs at 104! Yanks 95, Tigers 92, Mets 88. I've heard quite a bit about these three teams, but the Cubs have been sneakygood excellent this season.

Brewers called up Jacob Misiorowski yesterday. Went 5 innings of no hit ball before tweaking his ankle/calf, topping 100mph 14 times. I would have liked to see how long he could have gone but I get why they pulled him.
His stuff is amazing. His only detriment will be throwing strikes. Hard to get all that lankiness consistent but he has done a much better job this year. Had 3 BB's and 5 K's in his 5+ innings. I didn't see the injury but hope it's not too bad. He looked electric the first 3 innings (all that i was able to watch).

It wasn’t overturned in the booth - it was confirmed and he was yelling at the ump for getting it wrong in the first place.

Things were really bad here in Boston between Devers and the team but even saying that how the hell do you trade him for a what they got in return? You have to get more than that for such a pure hitter.

We'll know by the trade deadline whether this is the first step of a rebuild around Anthony and Campbell's timeline or if the relationship between the team and Devers had deteriorated so badly that they just needed to dump the contract.
Harrison is a stud.

In The Athletic on this trade they say he has front-line starter potential but hasn't found much consistency, in particular with the fluctuations in velocity. He was probably going to lose his job when Verlander returned.
Tibbs (the Giants first round draft from last year) has a left-handed swing that might play well in Fenway. But he is limited defensively and can only play 1B and LF.

Harrison hasn't developed his secondary pitches enough to be a viable MLB starting pitcher. He's seemingly been passed in the Giants' pitching prospect pecking order by Birdsong and Roupp with Carson Whisenhunt close behind. Maybe the Sox and Andrew Bailey can unlock something in Kyle's arsenal and he can even out the trade.
The Jordan Hicks starter experiment was fun when it occasionally worked; his sinker is a beautiful thing when he's getting it over for strikes. But he seems better suited to be a reliever.

You must be referring to Marvin Harrison Sr.
I think this also has a lot to do with the way Roberts manages. He doesn't leave pitchers in very long. 3rd time through the lineup is a big no-no so he usually has a quick hook and it's not always based on the SP performance.

Yeah, I knew it was getting ugly but my god, they booted him off the team plane and left him stranded at the airport....which, whatever, if I had his money I wouldn't want folks to cry me a river but it's pretty telling how little the team thought of him.
A game above .500 in mid-June and we'll see what the Red Sox can do with the young guns. Hopefully Mayer gets consistent PT as well.

Yeah - They just wanted to get rid of his contract. 9 years left and his relationship with the organization was done. Giants had to be one of the few teams willing to take on all of it. Not about the player return. Might be better to judge if the payroll and roster flexibility sets up something else by the Red Sox.

Remember when the Ravens signed "sure-fire" HOFer (and future psycho) Earl Thomas? He went after Chuck Clark - on of the most respected players on the team - in a rage in the preseason. Guys like Calais Campbell, Marlon Humphrey, and Ronnie Stanley went to the coaches/FO and said "nope - get him out of here".
I wonder if that's what happened here.
Assuming the velo is back for good I think he will continue to develop into a very good starter. I think he probably would have been better than Verlander the rest of the year had he been given the chance to stay in the rotation.

So the Red Sox either dumped salary or did what they think of as addition by subtraction with Devers, it seems. J.P. Ricciardi was on NESN last night thinking that there likely were irreconcilable differences because of the return. He reasoned that once a team was okay with the salary that they should probably have gotten more. I don't know how accurate that is, but he is a former GM, so I think he probably knows something (?)
I wouldn't make too much of the plane thing. It could just be that is when the deal went down, and then they have professional obligations to take him off of the team flight.
Anyway, I'm not surprised by it. I'm certainly not gloating or feeling great about it. It depends what the front office does with the savings. I'm not too sanguine about that.

Reading about it some more, I agree with you on the plane thing - it makes for good headlines "HOW DARE THEY" but logistically, it probably made the most sense.
The Red Sox dumping salary is also sensible, but boy, they better damn well be right about Mayer, Anthony and Campbell because that's a lot of production exiting the squad.
You think they dump Story next? He has seemed to emerge from the igloo a little. Is he part of this team down the stretch?

I have no idea how the funding really works, so I can't get upset like I used to when I first found out about the Premier League and the profits you could make there as opposed to MLB's revenue sharing. (I don't know how it works now for the Premier League, either, so . . . I just shrug now).

I'm a little confused about the seller/buyer thing and the Sox. You'd think they'd be buyers with all their talk about 2025, but last night seems like a pretty big answer in deed if not words. But you ot me about Story. He has perked up at the plate and in the field, and I know per The Athletic the Sox really wanted to leave Rafaela in center (he's probably their second-best SS), so that's probably the main thing to consider. But your guess is as good as mine.

I'm stoked on the Devers move, but still want to see Harrison be successful being a local kid. The Giants have been abysmal at signing bats in free agency. If Eldridge pans out they may for the first time in over 20 years have some serious pop in the middle of their lineup.
